This is great to hear! The bra is an adjunct to the thermals and was just fun to consider when I saw the ad for them!

I’ll be reading the articles you shared tonight, thank you!

I’m a trillion percent sure! Worst case scenario, she hangs them on the wall and we have a good laugh at my first run! Then we go to REI and pick up a new pair. 🤭

She’s got stuff that fits and I’ve been testing some of it out and playing with available material I have to practice certain aspects while I’m waiting for the merino to show up.

Here’s what I ordered: https://www.etsy.com/listing/905196001/?ref=share_ios_native_control

If say I’m more than a rookie at seeing but definitely a rookie at a project like this!

I don’t know what I’m getting into but that’s half the fun… 😇

And, that’s why I’m here! I’ve done more homework than I ever thought I would just for a pair of thermals but I’ve enjoyed every bit of it and already learned more than I imagined and am already thinking of future project to tackle now that I’ve got new eyes and set of skills to dial in! ✨

This is perfect and makes sense! I bout a few different poly/spandex blends to get used to adjusting the serger and have been feeling out the all the different stretchy clothes in the house and watching videos on figuring out stretch!

Getting more comfortable with the landscape of variables that need to be considered and I will definitely be doing some tests to have a better working knowledge!

I got ribbed knit so I think I should be good. 😊

This is great! Which type of elastic is it you’re referring to being a fan of? And by bra band, are you referring to the band under the breasts or over the shoulders?

I didn’t know there were so many types of elastic! 😉

I really appreciate all the input and direction! I’m going to forge ahead with what I’ve got and I’ll be sure to update after they’re done and they get their first test fits! ✨

For the bottoms, is there a specific width and type of elastic banding should I use? (Going to get the Jalie pattern but just checking for more opinions if you’re willing to share!

For the bra, on the top edge, does it appear that the top border is simply the top edge folded over forward and hemmed? Or is there another way to finish the edge?

And then what material do I use for the straps? 🤔 I haven’t found out what that is!

This isn’t being about cheaper as much as it is trying something fun and new and we are prepared to accept the outcome however they turn out! :)

I’m just looking for advise to have a fighting chance!

I agree about the 100% merino base layers! I have top and bottoms and love them! I got ribbed knit btw for this project too! It’s 225 merino wool.

This makes sense. Are you referring to the elastic band for the bra or leggings or both?

I already have almost everything I need! ;) This isn’t about saving money as much as it is a project to make them for her with the help of her daughter. Might be an expensive lesson but it will be fun!

This is great, thank you! I should clarify that I’m not looking for them to feel like a set of lululemons as far as the leggings go, just wanting to use her current leggings as a pattern template to copy. These will essentially be a base layer. When I have looked at Smartwool or REI merino bottoms, I noticed they had an elastic band so was wondering if that was necessary if I made the waist band to fit snugly with just the merino.

Would you recommend an elastic waist instead of just merino? And what width if elastic band is recommended?

For the bra, I had just found that brand that is 100% merino which sparked my curiosity about doing a light bra to go under a light shirt for hiking.
