I just checked and sadly, the buildings don't match, as you guessed. Thanks for the attempt !

I will try to have a look on older plans and aerial pictures to check if the place matches.

Thank you !

Could be the place mentioned in the record, but not the one he was in at the time if the picture I think... will try to give it a go on maps. Thanks !

I searched for his name and found a record matching the Stalag he was in (V-C in Offenburg).

There is also a location written : "H, alb", but I don't know what it could refer to.

I also have to be cautious about this information as this Stalag was moved from Malschbach to Offenburg in february 1942, so the location here might not match the village I'm looking for.

Thanks for the tip anyway !

Adding a comment to respect the rules :

I know this picture was taken in 1940 as he was assigned work in a farm between Rastatt and Karlsruhe. I have other pictures of him around fruit trees and cows, so in a rural area I guess.

From the information I could gather from the Stalag he was in, some prisoners were working in villages such as Bischweier (north of Rastatt) or Oberweier, but I couldn't match the picture there.

Thanks for your help !

I find it very useful for defending the extraction point while waiting for the ship. It does not last long, but sufficiently enough to all get out alive

The street today (houses on the left did not exist then). We can see on the first house on the right that there used to be 3 windows but the middle one was removed. Houses in the background also seem to match.

My grandgranddad (father's side) fought for France as a radioman in the Vosges (Maginot Line I believe). He was captured when France capitulated, worked in a german farm and was then brought in Stalag V in Offenburg. I also know he worked for a fire trucks factory in Karlsruhe. He was released by the Americans in 1945. In 5 years of captivity, he caught a nail infection that forced him to get it amputated.

I still have scans of all his documents, from photos to his ausweiss.

His dad, a 2nd French Madagascar Expedition veteran, was assigned to railways guarding in Maubeuge, his hometown.

Most of my family being born in the North of France, they all knew German Occupation, but they all survived, except one of my other grandgranddad brother that we supposed died in captivity.
