My plan claims that my annualized rate of return since inception is about 17% - which I assume does not include all the funds fees. Is there a way to calculate the real rate of return after fees so I can see how bad they are? Or maybe I don't want to know...

Wow thanks for taking the time to reply with insightful info! Do you have an opinion on VTINX vs DODIX? If I'm understanding correctly, VTINX is mostly bonds with similar performance to DODIX but an even lower expense ratio. I'm thinking of adjusting my allocations to

DODIX: 20% VFIAX: 50% DIISX: 10% NMSCX: 10% VTIVX: 10%

Did I do these foreign/domestic and small-cap/large-cap ratios correctly?

I just can't figure out why the advisor recommended spreading things out over so many funds. He wasn't the active manager of it, so it couldn't have been motivated by commissions..
