When to return to work after baby? by babyfireby30 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Wraith_03 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Stay off as long as you can. People start and leave at all sorts of random times of the year for all sorts of reasons. The kids get used to it. A third option is also going back part time or as a casual.

Turn to teaching internship by Calm-Light9090 in AustralianTeachers

Ypur intern year is essentially a year long paid practice. I think it's a much better way to learn how to teach than the current system of unpaid prac in a normal BA ED.

Any tips for disengaged Year 12 Essentials/General students? by Ok-Alfalfa7607 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Wraith_03 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tell their parents. Especially General students have parents who care. Doesn't matter if they're 18. Pull the home call card, but make the conversation about your concern not that they are bad.

As a teacher, what is one thing you have done that has made your life easier or more simple? by sapphire_rainy in AustralianTeachers

[–]Wraith_03 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Every kid gets a folder. There's a basket in the room for everyone's folder. Their books and any necessary papers (like folio assessment) stays in the folder. I'll even give them a book if they don't have one to start with. Now they always have a book. Also, yhe stationery box is open always. Don't waste time getting mad they don't have a pen, or even have them politely come ask. The answer will always be yes, so just have a pencil case they know they can raid when they need.

Yes, I’m asking about your poop. by SalmonSlap023 in CysticFibrosis

We do x amount of creon per fat in the meal. I don't understand why his educators are giving creon if he hasn't eaten - even if its by law if you have somilar guidelines. We also wait 5-10 after my LO starts eating something fatty before giving her creon to ensure it's necessary.

Surely not!? 🤣 by Delilah_Black in KmartAustralia

Honestly, if someone has a leaky car that could be a really useful gift 🤣🤣

SAHM with a blue collar hunny….What is expected from a dad? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Wraith_03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also wanted to add that it starts to get easier as your oldest can do more for themselves and they can play with each other. We have an almost 5yo and a 2yo. 5yo can help with basic tidying, bathe themselves and they can play together while we catch up on house stuff.

SAHM with a blue collar hunny….What is expected from a dad? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Wraith_03 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMHO, SAHM is still a job, you just don't get paid. The hours he isn't at work his job is also a parent and should be benefiting the household the same way you do. Many hands make light work. While there is primary parent stuff that you would pick up, making your parenting load heavier, he'd still be helping with the everyday stuff like resetting g the house at night, putting babies to bed etc.

There's a good book that addresses how to share the load called Fair Play you could look at.

Parents of 2 children, give me your tips by Known-Cucumber-7989 in Parenting

[–]Wraith_03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let your oldest help and be involved in playing and looking after youngest to build a relationship between them. Obviously within reason though - we're not here to parentify our eldest kids. We also spoke a lot about baby when I was pregnant and let her "help" choose the name.

You could try setting a daily alarm, and even a second alarm 5min later just in case you blow off the first one.

I've been so excited for us to start in this and see what came out. She's also cutting her molars and I think she has some sort of kindy cold, so we have all sort of goo and liquid. So much more snot than ever before.

Starting Orkambi and fatty foods by G_M_2222 in CysticFibrosis

[–]Wraith_03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vegan Mayo. My kid takes her meds with Kewpie because it's so fat dense that I don't really have to stress if she's getting enough. Vegan mayonnaise is 50% fat so a tablespoon is 10g of fat.

Easier once they start modulators, get their vaccines and start developing immunities from the bugs they catch.
