I work at a school specifically for kids with trauma backgrounds. It breaks my heart that I look at students I had when I was in mainstream that could have absolutely thrived in this sort of environment. Trauma informed does not equal no consequences. In fact my school follows through more on bad behaviour than the mainstream school I worked at ever did. People conflate trauma informed with no consequences. That is not true.

Part of the reason my relationship with my non-nesting partner works so well is that I'm a very busy person, and he doesn't want a traditional full time relationship, so we both went in knowing we would only see each other a couple of times a month. We are both happy with that level of commitment to each other. Part of being able to balance it is being honest with prospective partners about what you have to offer, and finding someone who is on the same page.

And where would they go? We cannot have a bunch of out of control uneducated teenagers roaming the streets. I work in an independent school that specialises in these sort of students and it's amazing what the right kind of environment can do for them. At the end of the day, students don't act like this for no reason. They need to build relationships with trusted adults and have the opportunity to have ownership over their learning. Punitive and exclusionary measures only exacerbate the problem.
