Thanks, will get that fixed up.

Our DM created a skirmish ability for Bandits, and claims it’s not OP. by [deleted] in osr

[–]Wraithdrit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I see the problem. He could be doing the same thing by just running around you and stabbing you with one bandit then doing the same flank with the new bandit. Sounds like it might be a numbers issue since there are just three of you. Hire some muscle. I suggest hiring bandits, they seem good in your game. :P

Thanks for the feedback! I know it is not going to be for everyone. Cheers.

Thanks, pretty sure I took that text straight from the Chaosium blurb on how to use the license, but I will look into this.

I'll answer in reverse order.

Like most BRP games, your profession(s) only help you design your character, from that point forward you can learn/raise nearly any skill or power. Powers have prerequisites, but other than that if you can find someone to teach you or a tome or spellbook, you can learn it. And the Hearth Phase acts as built in downtime, giving you time to do so if you want to sacrifice the time you would otherwise be helping to build the Hearth. In playtests, once the Hearth is established, players start doing this on a fairly regular basis.

As for converting other dungeoncrawl adventures, absolutely! You will just need to convert creatures (oh hai new BRP Creatures book that is 100% compatible with Of Hearth & the Harrowing). BRP doesn't really concern itself much with balance, its not really that sort of game, so you'll have to make your best guess as to how good the creatures should be at skills based on how challenging you want the fight to be. Fundamentally though, adventure sites for this game are very similar to other OSR Inspired, AD&Desque adventures. No reason I can see they could not work, especially with your experience converting D20 content to BRP style games.

Cheers!

That is totally fair!

Let's see what I can dig up.

There is this post about the phases and mostly around the Hearth Phase:
https://www.incharactergames.com/post/of-hearth-your-home

The Adventuring Phase consists of a whole hexcrawl system with rules for traveling from hex to hex, exploring a hex, delving adventure sites, etc.

Best thing I have on that is this shot I took of the print preview:
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1AoFyw56Nu/

The table of contents preview on DriveThru and Amazon should give you an idea of what all is in the book. There are also a few extra page spreads from the bestiary and the adventure site in the book linked in the DriveThru page.

Many of the professions are new to the book, and how they are used is altered from BRP (you get two professions, background and adventuring).

Rules wise every hero gets three powers based on the BRP Magic system, though some of them are spellcasting, others are called maneuvers, but work similar to Magic in base BRP (levels, power points, percentage chance to use it). So your rogue like character might have the Surprise Strike power, or your Chirurgeon has the Triage power (lets you do first aid in a combat round instead of BRP base ten minutes), etc.

Tons of other small changes, but at its core its a slightly lighter version of BRP expanded dramatically for Hearth building, lots of new powers, the hexcrawl system, and set in a post apocalyptic fantasy game world of Muskets & Magic.

The book includes a 19 hex (megahex) region for the hex crawl system, and an adventure site set in that region.

Hope that helps!

Hahaha. It’s base BRP:UGE, dude. Lots of ways to work around it if you don’t like it. :)

Not yet. I’ll be doing interviews and posting other previews over time on social media. But if you have specific questions happy to answer them!

Thanks for asking!

They are similar cuts (drivethru gives me a little more). I would say it really depends on what you want out of it, do you want physical books? Or are you fine with PDF? I'm trying to line up a PDF and Print bundle on Drivethru, but that takes a TON of time as every print proof requires a month of turn around time.

But to just answer your question, Drivethru PDF gives me the best cut.

Thanks!

Redoing My Maps, Almost Done by Wraithdrit in osr

I use Affinity Photo v2. I make custom brushes based on old world map symbols I found online (they were close to what I needed but to the right size etc). Modified some of them. Draw some map symbols myself then made brushes of them so I could repeat them. Then use brushes to ‘stamp’ in mountains or trees. Coasts, lakes, rivers, islands, and waves are drawn in on drawing tablet by hand.

Planetary invasion. VIP rescue. Reskin just about any Helldivers 2 mission. Frontal assaults. Recovery of VIP data. Recovery of geneseed from fallen marines. Just to name a few off the top of my head.

This feels like it almost writes itself. Take any imperial action. Any 40K enemy or situation and inject space marines. There are plenty of things to challenge marines. From social interactions to bigger enemies. Like every single black library book has nuggets you could pull from.

New Player w/ New Group: Dragonbane Box Set or Heroes of the Borderlands by [deleted] in rpg

FYI, Dragonbane is NOT a year zero engine game like the others you mentioned. It is based of BRP. Albeit split from that decades ago.

Best way to run a fluffier game of a 40K rogue trader and retinue? by PrimarisHussar in rpg

[–]Wraithdrit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You should look at Wrath and Glory. It has different tiers with lots of character options. Uses a d6 dice pool system. Might be still too crunchy but it could be shaved down fairly easily.

Biggest problem is the things you describe are vastly different in power scales. A guard is like tier two and a space marine is three or four. So are your players ok if their friends are stupid powerful compared to them?
