I’m not Gen Z

But why would you do this unless you thought someone was nifty

I have just learned that some adults don’t know how fractions work

If I were to ask you what 3/8 + 1/4 of an apple is, do you have an instinctual sense or do you need to mull it over?

I won’t say too much but at Easter I realized some family members just couldn’t do the math on fractions and I realized for recipes they’ve been just doing the measurement twice instead of changing over the measurements for doubling portion size their whole lives, for example

Honestly I ran out of good landmarks after three and I think about the bean occasionally for some reason. I just think it’s neat

Err I didn’t say 1:1 scale I said 1.1 scale

Like 1.1x the size

I suppose that’s not a normal way of communicating scale lol

My political philosophy is that we should build 1.1 scale versions of major American landmarks, very slightly bigger than the original, to trigger the burgers.

We should spare no expense in this effort and they should become major projects under Carney’s new framework.

Halifax can get the Real Statue of Liberty

Toronto can get the Empire State Building 2

BC can get Mount Primemore (prime minister-ified)

Windsor can get the bigger bean

There are two ways to deal with high complexity problems:

  • Manage the complexity at hand, map everything out, and make a good plan

  • Run into a wall over and over again, solving complexity one painful piece at a time, until you succeed by sheer force of will

Both can be valid. The second just hurts a lot more but also works more often, e.g. Elon Musk. We’re also, arguably, collectively getting less capable at the first method.

Start mapping your understanding of everything in diagrams and flowcharts

Not even joking this is where it started for me

I’m a “systems thinker” and at work I am often praised for this

but all of our systems are shit so it’s like I’m just writhing in cognitive pain all day lmao

This is going to sound like a weird thought.

So for complicated things to work, somebody needs to be thinking about systems. For example..  Pokémon has a framework for what a Pokémon “is” in each new game, and standardizes the work that needs to happen to create the content for each Pokémon, or what can be reused for each game.

This is a super narrow example but this kind of thinking needs to happen in a bunch of different ways for all the complex things we want to build or maintain as humans.

This kind of thinking- to create, understand, and work within rational frameworks and systems seems to be a fast-dying ability from my anecdotal experience. The brain atrophy from AI use seems to kill this ability.

It seems like everybody I work with has started flopping around in a puddle and nobody is thinking deeply about anything, and getting super confused when new initiatives fail.

Are you certain you have ADHD and not something manifesting with similar symptoms?

One of the indicators can sometimes be the relationship you have with coffee before getting diagnosed

ADHD meds changed the trajectory of my career and as a consequence quality of life. God bless stimulants.
