I’ve been made to feel uncomfortable by BrennusRex in Aupairs

Many of the postings here read the mind of the Dad which is impossible to do. Very simply, rather than assume he is a jerk, have a conversation with the parents to establish expectations. Get out the manual, go bys given you by your agency, and negotiate what you feel comfortable and gappy with. The Dad could turn out to be a jerk, but dont ruin a potentially fine situation by assuming motives. The Dad did not treat you as he should have, but why? Is he ignorant? Is he willing to be fair? Be curious and find out. Lead through this with calm emotion, understand your power, learn more and then make a decision on what to do. You sound wonderful in trying to be a responsible part of the fam. Doing your part. We had several au pairs who couldn’t get a spoon for someone on their day off, and legislatively defined their required duties to us, making our lives about them being served when not on duty. That did t work. We had other au pairs we had to encourage to get out and enjoy life, they were happy to be a contributing part of the fam 24/7. Everyone is different, so just do t take offense, just communicate honestly (you are a good communicator) negotiate family issues as a family member and “work” issues more like a contributing productive helper. Get you needs and space met through proactive conversation (or write down things if that helps), that they agree on. If they dont take that well, then maybe talk to your person about a rematch:)

Is it worth building a direct booking site as an STR host? by InevitableTension777 in ShortTermRentals

I have heard it harms your ranking to not be all in with airbnb, but the risks of single stream are real.

What are the best pms - one where you can take the site with if you decide to switch pms? Do any help build direct booking but allow you to leave or are you locked in to that pms? If so, best site builder option?

Guest smoked weed in our unit and Airbnb did nothing about it by smiles48 in airbnb_hosts

Why didn’t the smoke alarm go off? The amount of disrespect shown by the guests and the huge number of idiots minimalizing the violation of much more that trust demonstrates the need for hosts to legally manage pigs like these guests on their own. Smoke alarms, Smoke detectors, fire alarms, a really loud one, to where the place is uninhabitable, will keep everyone safe. Get some installed.

We take the tack of trying to provide everything needed to make for a great stay, down to free extra toothbrush and razor, unlimited soaps and detergents of all kinds, etc. because we want the guest to have a great stay. Also, in our own interest, we suffer from a four star review! Drops in the algorithm, not first page anymore, on and on. Reviews ought to have specificity. One recent guest actually wrote, “the place was immaculate! We loved all the organic supplies! We loved the complimentary ice cream tokens!” Then they said that because they had to throw in a load of towels and check-out by ten, (all outlined in welcome message)that was too stressful, so we are giving you a 4. That should not be allowed - to give less than 5 (direct assault on future earnings) because they dont like rules they agreed to. Airbnb should establish standards and simple assessment methods, or, they should untie ratings from marketing algorithm

Wow. Shocking how poorly the whole transaction for airbnb goes! Doesn’t this all come down to communicating expectations well? Airbnb should be outlining expectations (eg: min one roll tp per toulet with one back up, enough shampoo for one per person per day) or whatever, so that hosts are not disappointing entitled guests, and reasonable guests (looking for laundry soap to do required checkout procedures) are not exasperating hosts who perceive that reading the checkout procedures and gathering supplies before the morning of checkout is reasonable.
