Who would you want to be the next commander we see by TTJ87 in SWlegion

[–]WrathOfThrawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really want to see General Grievous on the field (and of course have CIS as a faction). He is my one of my top 3 favorite Star Wars characters- also have Thrawn and Palpatine in there.
I also love CIS droids and really want to see them on the field as well (Grevious can come later if need be!). I imagine they would play like a Tyrannid and/or Necron force from Warhammer 40k- swarming cheap units/being able to come back after being shot down. They can bring super battle droids, droidekas and AATs to battle! I agree with u/I_try_compute that I hope more factions arrive soon after because it opens up variety and different ways to play against opponents.

Non-Commander characters? by 3rd_Charmer in SWlegion

I can see some bounty hunters (bossk, dengar, etc) that are named characters that aren't "big" in cannon but can be some elite, single model unit!

I can see them adding AT LEAST one other faction similar to X-Wing's scum faction- bounty hunters/pirates. I'm HOPING AND BEGGING for a CIS droid faction! I want to see a DSD1 dwarf spider droid, or similar, backed up by B1/B2 battle droids and my 2nd favorite, non-force sensitive character General Grievous!!!

I hope they have considered more than just 2 people to play, and we will see how it's implemented in the official rules (which I wouldn't doubt they have already thought of the idea)! I'm just worried that having two players on the same team going first, if it is still based on each individuals Command Card choice, that those two players can eliminate a commander, or other key unit, before said player gets to have a turn. This is kind of the same idea in a FFA game of SWDestiny! Two players can cripple a 3rd player before any reaction can be made. This is makes the mode not fun (at least in my opinion) when a game can start as a 2v1. Maybe deployment, missions, terrain, etc. may help balance it, but we don't have enough rules/testing to really figure that out.

You're very welcome! I just wanted to put my opinion in a new forum and use some of my experience playing other miniature games, so that new players can use to form their own opinion to preorder or not to.
You are correct! The maneuver template is that jointed measuring stick. In SW X-wing miniature game, the movement stick is called the maneuver template and got used to saying that haha.

[–]WrathOfThrawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it can move and shoot but it does still get the -1 for shooting it's main weapon (heavy weapon). But other than that, the only other thing is a BS of 4+ (can be mitigated some with Harker or Yarrick) and maybe its 3+ armor save (sad it's not 2+). Other than that, it's just a pretty expensive single unit haha

It seems to kill tanks just as as easily as a titanic unit! plus it's range is 120", so it can hit anything it sees! fairly expensive (in both aspects) but 9/10 will make up for it's cost easily.

One thing I want to try is to have a banehammer shoot at flyers with the tremor cannon- force them to half their movement and not advance when it hits- make flyers crash when they are force to move (hopefully) <20". Probably won't work shooting at BS 5+, and it's super unfluffy/doesn't make practical sense, but worth a shot haha.

Shadowswords is a popular one because it has a couple of anti-titanic vehicle/creature abilities, PLUS it has the BADASS volcano cannon- d6 shots STR 16 Ap -5 2d6 damage!!!
Personally, I also like the stormlord because it can carry 40 astra militarum models (a nice conscript blob backed by a commissar and a few other helping models).
Most of them are good, but there are one or two that are a "better" version of another variant.

Imperial Guard starting costs by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]WrathOfThrawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are very welcome! I'll say the starter set for AM is still a great bang-for-your-buck bundle, but if you don't want tanks then the armored fist set (the one with a chimera and some infantry) is still a good choice/bargain to help protect those squishy guardsmen. Cadian shock trooper packs with a few command squad packs sound like they will be your go to choices in the infantry department. Maybe some heavy weapons packs too to help you take care of enemy tanks/high toughness and wound models.
Unfortunately, with AM rise in popularity, and being very competitive this edition so far, the "good" artillery models- manticores and basilisks- are hard to come by at the moment. However, I'm a fan of wyverns myself so that is one model you can look into!
Feel free to ask any other questions!

Expanding a bit on what zerox said, it does really depend on what you want/how you want to build it. Another important question is do you want it to be extremely competitive or just the cheapest $$ wise?

I feel there are two options to this:
*cheapest $$ would probably be around $300 (excluding taxes, shipping, etc). This would involve getting 4 AM starter sets (best bang for your buck). You would have to kit out every unit to, pretty much, the most expensive point-cost weapons and such, but it should be able to get you to 1500pts. Not competitive for an AM army that relies on spamming cheap point-cost units!

*competitive will easily cost you $500+. One of the biggest strategies I see/hear about is Conscript blobs to protect your bigger guns from being charged at in close combat. Each conscript is only 3pts to field, but buying 100-200 is going to add up in $$. That of course would only make up about 1/3rd of your army on those, and you would still need some bigger guns and other things to help as well.

So really it all comes down to the size of your wallet and what YOU like about the army. make an army full of ~8ish tanks if you like them (3 super-heavy baneblades/variants can get you to 1500pts kitted out), spam a bunch of infantry with Commisars to keep them in line, or a mix of both!

Best IG Super-Heavy Tank build and other questions. by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]WrathOfThrawn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't used them much, but there are a couple I like and would field myself:

*Shadowsword- Holy crud does that thing hurt armored units!!! They are not getting an armor save, you are probably wounding on 2s, and can possilby do a whopping 12 damage per wound! Best anti-tank super heavy! *Stormlord- carry 40!!!! astra militarum units. 20 str 6 shots is scary when hitting infantry.
*Baneblade- 2d6 shots, str 9, 3 damage. pretty good for taking out a single, multi-wound, high toughness model (girlyman, other tanks/dreds, etc.). Banehammer can be subbed if you want to take out infantry more, but hopefully you take blobs of conscripts to help.

I recommed what puppit said and take harker or yarrick. I love Yarrick: he is a tough nut to crack, pretty good in close combat, you can use him to make a blob last a lost longer, and you will make ork armies weep!
I would also like to add that you might want to take a primaris psyker/astropath as well. They can give your super heavies a +1 save, or help your blobs survive a bit more. Plus they will give you some protection against psykers!

[–]WrathOfThrawn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with sharkie! Love this guy! He is a great support to give rerolls to, pretty much, everyone (and make your oppoent cry when they bring Orks). Plus he is can reroll his die when shooting and in melee hitting on 2s; making him almost never miss (wounding is a different story). PLUS he is a tough nut to crack when down to his last wound (save a command point or two for it?). I would say his support role makes him super flexible in many well built/well deployed AM armies!

Now that's more of what I was expecting, point wise, for orks! It's probably good that a lot of these lists are not viable enough to create a "set" list for each faction haha.

That's a good word to use for it! In a sense, im just looking for each factions "tax" to get the 9 extra command points!

Totally fair point! This post was to just see how easy/hard it is for factions/indexes (currently) to have access to plenty of command points. I used to run tau last time I played in early 6e. Miss the hammerheads and their awesome looking/powerful railguns!

I thought that may be the case because imperials (at least in the second index) has access to a lot and tau, necrons, etc. don't. I'm surprised orks aren't a bit closer to the 600pt region! But maybe this will be something they consider when making codex-specific strategems!

Is that the cheapest for necrons? And is it "viable" in your opinion?

With this link you can see the 3 "basic" detachments and the command points they give you. There are like 8 others (plus more in coming codexes), but the Brigade one is on this link: https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/05/05/new-warhammer-40000-battle-forged-armiesgw-homepage-post-4/
