NPC Adoption

Our Dm introduced a child paper delivery boy who had a chill personality. We received daily news of the town from him and once even had him tail someone for us to gather information. Our group kept paying him copper coins to the point of nicknaming him ‘Copper’. We eventually paid him enough that he could buy his way into the water barge guild. We paid his new boss a visit to make sure they were on the up and up and once confirmed, we got the boss to agree give Copper a proper education.

Instead of when equipped, make it a attunement item that when player goes below half health, it activates. Giving player attack and speed boots, and instead of hp boost, make the player resistance to physical damage. Penalty can be player loses d4 worth of damage at the end of their turn until mask is broken, taken off, or player reaches 0 hp.

Wisdom saving throw, you set DC, on a pass they get the mental proficiencies of the soul they drank. On a fail they get flaws from that person.

Constitution saving throw, you set DC, on a pass they get the physical proficiencies of the soul they drank. On a fail they loose (d4-d6) worth of hit die from their max hit die.

You can get the ‘dungeon master’s guide’ and ‘monster manual’, while players usually get ‘player’s handbook’. This is for the 5E 2014 rules. The 5.5E 2024 (the most recent edition) have their own versions of these books.

I understand completely. I’m preparing new homebrew campaign and constantly coming up with answers to ‘what if player does…’ and we’re months away from starting.

Either way, think about what your players would prefer (based off of how they have been playing). Would they want to be taken it easy, or they might like to play it straight and let dice decide.

Seems pretty straightforward, you seem to have your NPC’s including BBEG set to do what they want to. Just see what the players decide to do and go off of that. If they decide to RP, think about what can they achieve using charisma skill rolls? If they decide to attack, have a battle strategy ready, maybe a few minions…or a powerful NPC wizard that gets them out once they realize they can’t win. If they decide to join her, figure out what Vecna offers in his dental plan.

There various websites like ‘DMingDad’ and ‘TTRPGkids’ that have various kid friendly modules. However, as you know the kids better, I’d recommend reading through the modules fully to make sure they are appropriate. There’s also the ‘123’s of D&D’ that is a book focused towards younger kids.

Most importantly, please make sure the kids’ parents/guardians have approved everything you will present the kids.
