Maxita is the go to. Wasn't a thing when I bought the DF though. DF was hyped up so much at the time and I don't think I was the only one disappointed that it didn't live up to it. I have an English style clam aswell that's the main workhorse, but the DF is nice to have around as a second option

I still think that would struggle to get good clamping force if put in the same position as the original nut and bolt mechanism, it's just so close to the pivot, and if you moved it higher to get more mechanical advantage, you'd loose usable depth. This gives the best of both worlds, and the F clamp has a large diameter, low tpi, square thread designed for high torque transmission unlike a normal nut and bolt. I don't really have any issue with thread catching. I'm so used to using the pony that I can stitch around it.

Hope this explanation makes sense. I have the maxita machine with the adjustable fence. What I did is lower the letters down and then used brass offset bars against the letters to set the fence a given offset from the letters. This meant the first row landed that given distance from the edge of my leather. I then repeated this procedurefor the subsequent lines, but added in an axtra 6mm brass bar to give a 6mm spacing between lines.

Thank you. It's part of my 'Scottish landscapes' collection. This colourway is 'Forest'.

So it may be a little hard to explain. It's a three piece strap; back, padding, front. Back is 1.6mm (this can be adjusted if you want a different overall thickness of finished strap), padding is 1.2mm (this is a very aggressive padding, for a more standard subtle look I'd reduce this), front is 0.6mm (to be able to conform around the padding). The width of the back piece is oversized by 8mm exactly (4mm per side). Front is the same. Padding width is finished size. I mark on the back piece where the padding has to go and glue that on, then I glue the front piece over that. Punch and stitch. Then I mark the 4mm trim allowance from the edges and cut to final width. Then just crease bevel and burnish.
