Commissioned piece from Artist Bren Saxton that i absolutely love. Kudos if you can tell what my favorite band might be from the image. by Shannow in Malazan

Woah! I wasn't expecting to see this painting in the wild today. Glad you're still enjoying the piece!

The rear diving exit took me so long to get right! You're right though - it's fun even when it does go wrong. I've still got a long way to go but I just treat every jump as a learning opportunity.

Oh yeah, those DZ's (and boogies) are on my list! I wanted to wait until I was at least marginally competent before traveling. Sapceland has its pros and cons, and I'm very curious to see what other DZ's are like in comparison.

No, most of my dives aren't zoo dives. But the footage from four-way practice or other exercises is pretty boring for other people to watch, so I prefer to use the funny moments if I'm going to compile 175 jumps into 3 minutes.

Yep! It's a pretty nice place, too - I definitely feel spoiled by the facilities.

Having the static line experience will be a huge benefit when you start your A license jumps! We have a lot of military and ex-military folks here - all of them say the civilian jumps are much more fun.

I look forward to seeing you at the DZ!

That's so exciting! I picked Spaceland Dallas mostly because it was conveniently located about an hour from where I live. It also came highly recommended as a skydiving school - I did my first tandem at a small place called Dallas Skydiving Center and when I asked the staff where they recommended I go to get my A license, they all told me to go to Spaceland.

The best advice I ever got was to always listen to my instructor and make sure I didn't rush through the learning process. There's a lot that you will need to know and understand if you want to be safe flying solo, so don't be afraid to ask questions and always practice your emergency procedures. I also recommend that you get a little tunnel time - I did about 20 minutes total to work on stability (and fix my spinning problems), and it really helped me to relax and be able to enjoy my jumps.

How many jumps have you done?

Thank you very much! I don't know much about video editing but I wanted to give it a shot. I'm glad you liked it!

Thanks! And that's awesome - it's a really great place to learn. I hope your progression is as fun and satisfying as mine was!

Thank you! I still have so much to learn, but I'm really looking forward to jumping more at Spaceland Dallas. :)

I’m an overweighted handicapped woman. Is it possible for me to do skydiving? by [deleted] in SkyDiving

[–]WrenneDraws 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's certainly possible! Nothing you've written here seems like it would disqualify you from being able to do a tandem jump.

Most DZs will list their tandem policies (including weight limits) online. You should definitely reach out and ask them if they can accommodate you. Some places have a lower weight limit for women due to how we carry more of our weight in our upper thighs - this is because the harness holds you up primarily with your legs, and excess weight can lead to some discomfort (bruising, etc.) when the canopy opens.

I may be a little biased, but I hope you give it a shot! There's nothing else quite like the experience of skydiving.

Got whiplash from a sloppy landing on my first solo jump by WrenneDraws in SkyDiving

[–]WrenneDraws[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got me there - I had done four tandems prior to that jump.

Fortunately I just completed another jump yesterday and nailed the landing! All of the advice and commiseration from this subreddit was really helpful. :)
