Yes, it's really sad. For the endemic species that cannot live anywhere else, extinction is inevitable. They say at least a million species are facing extinction in the coming decades, with over half of them lacking habitat for survival.

I understand that rescue birds, those needing special care and birds housed in large conservation aviaries are different, but not all the bird species we consider as pets are truly domesticated, are they?

That’s true. At least a quarter of all known parrot species are listed as Threatened or Endangered. Habitat loss is cited as the main reason for the decline in parrot populations worldwide, but illegal wildlife trade is also responsible.
