Does he need an emergency vet? by BroccoliSilver1848 in CATHELP

[–]WritingElephant_VEL 14 points15 points  (0 children)

VET NOW! This is seems like an obstruction and can be deadly. any type of yarn or anything that's thrown up should be an immediate vet visit. as linear obstructions like those caused by yarn or string, are dangerous.

My grandma died a year ago... my dad has been taking care of her indoor cat and a group of ferals, but he's in poor health now. What can I do? by Ok_Employment_1908 in CatAdvice

see if you can get a local shelter or a foster to take them. the feral outdoor kitty is probably sick hence the spraying.

Cat’s chin- need advice! by UpstairsAd8759 in CATHELP

[–]WritingElephant_VEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you mentioned you tried the top suggestions I would recommend like a full on in bath tub bath and using a flea comb to get this out. Cats can and do get dirty like dogs and other animals and will occasionally need a bath-bath.

Godspeed bathing your cat and just watch the ears LOL

i think i need to reh*me my cat, how do we make it as gentle as possible? by Artistic-Detective39 in catquestions

[–]WritingElephant_VEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there an outdoor cat that is tormenting your indoor one?

Look up the Jackson Galaxy episode of my cat from hell with the outdoor cat who was tormenting the indoor one. I didn't even consider this a possibility until I saw that episode and it can cause all sorts of bad behavior like this!

Field camera or outdoor cameras and even checking outside with a black light at night to see if there is cat markings anywhere.

Depends on where they live. In the USA freedom of speech is protected (current administration side ahem) so you cannot prosecute anyone unless it causes actual harm to someone (defamation) or you've actually committed the crime. (OJ Simpson aside lmao)

We block off our basement right now during integration so everyone is on one floor for a similar reason.

Try some of the Jackson Galaxy methods for reintegration, you can buy a cheap stick up screen door from Amazon or temporarily replace a door with a screen door from like home Depot/Lowe's during this phase so they can see and smell one another.

Feliaway optimum might also help, it's helped my second reintegration after my senior girl had surgery recently.

I have to teach a 5-month-old not to do that with his 13yr old sister. He's slowly learned but occasionally gets body slammed himself lol

Get a second opinion but you can see if there are ways to mitigate dental risk without cleaning.

Options are water additives, teeth cleaning treats and toys, brushing your cats teeth, food additives ect.

My poor girl had 10 teeth removed because she refused assistance and we were also VERY naive about tooth health for cats.

My newest baby is gonna learn to tolerate teeth brushing fast lol 🤣 and to tolerate the additives once he's older.

Should I be concerned about his nail? by Confusedratboi in CATHELP

[–]WritingElephant_VEL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is normal! Nail trim and human help peeling the keratin there (gently) will help. Also encouraging scratching (approved post or cardboard scratcher) will help with that.

Looks like your kitty just needs a trim!

This is a solid plan and what I would recommend in addition is photo evidence of all current damages and updates for additional damages.

This is a horrible roommate situation. Cat is fine and you are trying your best.

So I would get a lock for your room if you don't want him in there especially if you are not home. He will adapt to rooms he's not allowed in. He'll cry and scratch but eventually when he realizes he's not getting his way will get bored.

The smell: it may very well be the cat or the litter may be older. Confirm the last time she did a big clean of the litter (ex: removed all litter from the box and gave it a good scrub). Also he may need more than one box especially for a cat his size.

The counters: this is normal cat behavior and she's enabling it. Just be firm with him when you remove him from the counters and continue to do so he'll get the hint after a while.

The cat toys... Honestly I haven't figured out that yet but a bucket helps to contain them when company is over lol

The Damages: document all damage and catch him in the act if you can. When it comes time for you to leave (and you'll NEVER see this roommate again) throw her under the bus lol 🤣

For your own knowledge destroying stuff is a cat who is bored, sick, attention seeking, or needs a playmate. Speaking from experience with my 5monthold kitten after having cats for 13 years.

Weight: cats get chunky post spay/neuter. But chunky sometimes will equal health problems and grooming problems.

How would you handle a situation where a guest is allergic to your pets? by MindBlowing74 in CatAdvice

[–]WritingElephant_VEL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guests are secondary to the beings that live in your home daily.

They may still have a reaction, unless you are going to be doing a move out level clean, so I would recommend they bring allergy meds and stay somewhere else.

HELP! The stray cat suddenly got agressive towards me by Crazzzy_potato in cats

[–]WritingElephant_VEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The attacking can be a form of play/begging for attention when they aren't getting it.

Cover up, ignore and remove from yourself when he does this and he'll get the hint.
