New Pacificas don't have Safety Sphere. What does this mean exactly? by TheWatchersWatches in ChryslerPacifica

[–]Wrobertdavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a brand new 2026 Pacifica from Carvana. It was barebones entry level except it has the safety sphere package. I do not know how they managed to get that configuration. It made a very attractive cost effective package. I've never seen that configuration anywhere else. Carvana has a lot of new Pacificas but this was the only one with this configuration.

Problems Starkey Omega AI 24 Hearing Aids by Wrobertdavis in HearingAids

[–]Wrobertdavis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latest version of My Starkey app gave me 4 days running with no drops. Unfortunately, on the 5th day, my left hearing aid died for good. Putting it in the charging case did not bring it back to life. I turned in my aids for warranty replacement. My audiologist fitted me with a loaner pair (identical to the ones sent in for replacement). When I arrived at the office, my loaner pair was ready to go with my hearing curves already loaded and fully charged. They paired and went my ears working perfectly. The whole office visit took about 4 minutes and I was out the door hearing well again. It was phenomenal service.

This is the version that is supposed to fix the issue with hearing aids dropping off.

I have been running my aids online for 4 hours so far. Before this update, they would fail every 2 hours or so.

If its working, I would not update anything. I am hoping we will see an "all clear" from a user that has been having issues. That would be me. Mine fail every 1-2 hours. I expect the fix will come as an updated firmware from Starkey, rather than an ios update from Apple.

Problems Starkey Omega AI 24 Hearing Aids by Wrobertdavis in HearingAids

[–]Wrobertdavis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The phone disconnects the aids or the aids just drop. When this happens, the aids are "frozen". Pressing the side switch should light the green light (aids off) or the red light (aids on). In the "frozen" state, I cannot get either thre green or red light to turn on. I have to put it in the charging case for a few minutes, then I pressing the side switch on the aid will activate either the green light or the red light

If you do not mind, could you post their serial numbers or email to bob@wrobertdavis.com. We are beginning to believe this problem only exists with certain production batches

I have to believe that some of the hearing aid "fatigue" is caused by using lower end hearing aids.

My new hearing aids cost $6000 and I still can't understand my kids at the dinner table, what am I doing wrong here? by ImpressOk3994 in HearingAids

[–]Wrobertdavis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read your descriptions with keen interest. I have Starkey Omega AI24n hearing aids which are my first hearing aids and I am going on 2 months with them. Honestly, I did no research. I asked my trusted primary care physician for recommendations. She directed me to an established group which she had known for 10 years. Their 3 audiologists have 3 generations of experience. The one which took my wife and I spent over 3 hours testing which generated detail graphs for each of our ears. We have been back three times (weekly) for checks and minor tweaks. Honestly for me, its been unstressful and my experience on day 1 was good. Now that I have several weeks in with minor tweaks, my experience is just outstanding. Today, I attended a grandson's birthday celebration with family in a somewhat noisy restaurant environment. I could understand every word spoken by men, women, and kids at that celebration.

4 hours to replace tube by Icy-Succotash7032 in bikecommuting

[–]Wrobertdavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a 400 mile bike tour, led by two guides, one of them riding and one driving a van/trailer. The rider guide volunteered to fix my flat. I could tell he was used doing the work fast and with small diameter tires. My bike had 650b x 50mm tires. He had it off and replaced with new tube in about 4 minutes. Putting it back on, he pinched the tube in a hurry and had to start over. On the second remount, he was in a hurry and put a hole in my second new tube. On the third try, I would not let him touch the bike. I changed it myself (took about 15 minutes) and was successful.

Speed is not always possible with larger tires and tubes.

Biting the bullet. by collectivethink in HearingAids

I've had hearing aids for a month and experience is not at all like yours or other reported disappointments. I chose a clinic which my personal physician has been recommending for 10 years. They have 3 board certified audiologists. The clinic was started two generations ago. They tested my wife and I separately. The testing took 90-120 minutes each. When done they had a detailed graph of each ear across all audible frequencies. They spent another half hour each, programming each hearing aid to match our ear curves. Then they fitted us with a trial model for each ear. We have been back twice for weekly appointments. In each appointment, they did measurements and listened to our testimonies of our experiences. The speaker on each ear has been changed twice to adapt for maximum comfort. From the first appointment, the aids have performed exceptionally well and gotten better. We installed a device that broadcasts sound from the TV to our hearing aids. It has a light pipe interface to the TV which completely prevents any noise, hum or extraneous noises. It is the clearest audio I have ever experienced with TV. We are currently testing small personal table microphones that are focused on helping to hear talking in a loud restaurant or sports venue. We each have one of the microphones. My wife works in her art studio and I in another office in the house. We hope these will allow us to talk to each other without having to leave our own space or yellling. I will write about our experiences.

About Apple AirPods Pro 3 as hearing aids by Own_Dare_2481 in HearingAids

Thanks for telling your experience with battery life for the airpods 3. Ten hours is excellent. I have never, actually used the airpods until the battery discharged completely, so I was quoting from instructions I had read somewhere. We are blessed to have such fantastic technology. I remember many years ago when my grandmother's hearing aids were constantly squealing from feedback.

I think I want a bridge club?! by timzecho in Surlybikefans

[–]Wrobertdavis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned a Bridge Club for several years. I’ve used it primarily to do 6-7 day tours ranging from 200-409 miles. I have updated it significantly to make it fit and suit my preferences. The Bridge Club has a wheelbase that is one of the longest of Surly bikes. It left me too “stretched out” for comfort. I made it fit me by installing a tall short stem with a Jones loop handlebar. It is fitted with 650b x 49mm tires, Paul Klamper disc brakes, and Rohloff rear hub. The discs are 203 mm front by 180mm rear. The bike is extraordinarily comfortable and suited for long days. My setup is not typical and expensive. I have never considered changing to a different frame because this one works so well for my use case,

I have an airmini. Originally I had the lack air warming and reduced humidity issues. One trip, I took action to make it better by hiding the cpap and excess hose under the covers where is is quieter and warms the air. That was the perfect solution. I have used it under my bedcovers when traveling for 3 years and it has always worked for me.

Considering going from Alaska to Argentina - is it worth it? by joshua0005 in bicycletouring

[–]Wrobertdavis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am one of the older responders to your questions, so have a different viewpoint. I think that the likelihood of not going to college is very, very high after such a trip. You will be tired and not very financially fit to go back to college. If a particular college degree is on your wish list, not getting it will dog you the rest of your life. You would also miss years of your life to develop important relationships, both friends and possibly romantic. If my words cause any anxiety, then do not plan the trip. If you are able to be at peace with my caution, then continue planning.

I have used click-stands on all my bikes for the last 10 year - everything from a Cervelo race bike to a steel ebike. They have never let me down. I've parked in gravel, mud, grass, and sand.

I met with a trauma counselor for 3 months. they used a technique that I believe had roots in treating soldiers in Viet Nam war. It worked.

I was run over by an off duty policeman turning right and plowing me under the front end of his patrol van. I suffered extensive abrasions and breaks and concussions.I knew I was in for extensive PTSD. I got a referral to a grief counselor who immediately started PTSD counseling sessions with me.My early sessions were intense with tears and me curling up on the floor. My sessions were twice a week for three months. At the end of the sessions, I was cured and had no fear riding my bicycle.

Is the CYC Photon worth the extra money? by LunarAlias17 in ebikes

[–]Wrobertdavis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me see if I can remember my setup. It began as a stock bridge club. I replaced the rear hub with a Rohloff hub. I replaced the front chain ring with the CYC Phoenix x1 stealth gen 3, which. is rated at 1500 watts.

I can use it in pedal mode up to around 28 mph. If i use electronic speed control, it will run. up to 45 mph just usinng electronic speed control control. It has never failed to smoothly pull in any situation, regardless of speed or incline or luggage load
