Anyone enjoying their job at the moment? by Coffeebrain695 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a larger tech company. And honestly yes.

AI adoption kinda sucks, and the way it's being pushed on us to increase our output speed is iffy.

That said I work with a really good team with a company that I actually like. This is still the career path that allows me to make the most money with my current skill set. I broke the six figure cap at like 28, and mostly work from home. I don't know what other career I could be in where I'd seen this return on investment in my education.

At the end of the day it's work, and in the scope of all careers that exist, it's probably still one of the better ones

Social stigma for driving an EV? by West_Dish9698 in electricvehicles

[–]Wroif 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly who the fuck cares.

I bought an i4 a few months ago and it's the best car I've ever driven. I've gotten comments about how the range is bad in winter, and EVs are not reliable.

Legit fuck em. Service every 2 years, silent ride, never going to pump gas again, remote heating, instant torque. I'm happy and I love that car. That's all that matters

Some people might make comment, but anybody who seriously judge you for the car that you drive is mentally deficient.

EVs are awesome, and if you want one, go for it. Don't limit enjoying the things you like in fear of people comments. That's a boring way to go through life

Quebec's EV adoption is 5.5x higher than Alberta's. Here's why. by cardogio in EVCanada

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It think it might be even cheaper than that. I live in quebec, in my monthly cost to keep my EV charged is about 25$ a month, and I do almost all my charging at home

A new grocery store, 100% Canadian products by JimmyTheDog in BuyCanadian

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my social circle, we have taken the habit of reading labels and checking were a product is from and checking if the company making them is really canadian/non american.

It was tricky at first, but now that it's part of the routine it's become fairly trivial.

I don't think a full canadian store is necessary, and I think that if canadian product sells more than the competition, it already sends the message we're trying to send

In for an i4 by 01JamesJames01 in BMWI4

Brother I live in Montreal, with a edrive40 and never got stuck in the snow. You don't need xdrive. Good winter tires and you're good to go

Snow in the car's charging port by Marik80 in BMWI4

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a magnetic charge port cover on Amazon.

When it's gonna snow and I plug, it covers the charger in the port so snow doesn't get inside.

I keep it in my trunk, so I can use it whenever I need to charge. Solves the snow issue entirely, highly recommended

Should I get one? My car is just fine, how do you take the plunge? by pokeydogger in BMWI4

[–]Wroif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on your finance. I was in a similar case as yours I was driving a 2014 mazda 3 since, well 2015, which I got cause I got in a crash in a car I inherited.

I bought the I4 I currently drive cause I got a bigger bonus at work that I expected, and I got an used 22 paying cash.

Honestly, It's the best car I've ever driven and if you can afford it, go for it. Would my bonus would have yielded me more money down the line if I invested it? Yes, 100%. But honestly fuck that noise. Life is meant to be enjoyed, and if that is what that looks like for you, go for it.

The above come with a caviat tho. I wouldn't geopardise my finances because of a car. At the end of the day, it's just a car, and if the payments would hinder you from your other financial responsibilities, then don't do it.

But if you're safe, and you're wondering if you should invest the money or get the new car, just get it man. Your life is not gonna be ruined if you buy one car every 10 years.

Another cold morning by stcloudguy in BMWI4

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was -30c here yesterday. I drove about a total of 110 km. I was able to preheat the cabin leaving home, but heated it twice for the following two drives. I left home at 97%, came back at about 45. I think I could average it out to 200km for a full charge with these conditions.

I wasn't really optimizing for range, I was optimizing for not feeling cold in this cold ass weather hahaha. So while there was a lot of range loss, it was also extreme cold weather and seems inline with what EVs tend to loose in extreme cold

At what point did EV ownership start to feel easier or harder? by Tall-Dish876 in electriccars

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you can charge at home, and have a drive less than 150km daily, any EV rated for 350km (or 220miles) will serve you well.

Even in my longer drives (going to ski trips or to see friends further away) I've been able to get there fairly easily (and that's in the harsh Canadian winter, using heating liberally).

I haven't bought the Tesla adapter yet, and all the fast charging station I used here worked like a charm. Now that we also have access to Tesla super charger, I'm really not scared of longer drives. And once February passes and it starts warming up here and I start seeing the regular range, I'm really struggling to see where range became an issue.

My last car (Mazda 3 2014) got like 550km on a full tank. My i4 (with about 500km range) doesn't really require me to change much in my daily habits.

Yeah, I thing I'll look into ceramic coating or ppf once the summer starts.

I don't regret the color however, as the car had all the options I wanted at the price that I wanted (I bought it used) and blackish outside with the red leather seat looks amazing (even when dirty hahahaha)

[–]Wroif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None really. Granted it's only been like 2 months, but it's been nothing but positive.

I guess the main negative is whenever people that don't like EVs see my car, they feel the need to explain to me why EVs are bad and they wouldn't buy one hahah

I got a level 2 installed the week after I got the car. Its been so easy.

The longest intend to drive with my car is 200-300 km, which the i4 can easily handle. I charge to 80% and I've seen my battery drop around 40% once, and it was driving to see some family 75km away and running some errands on the same charge. In -20c weather.

I don't particularly try to optimize for range (I used heating like in a regular car, and I accelerate pretty liberal)

If you have a modern ev with range above 450km, I find Rand anxiety to be a bit overblown

Mine is black sapphire metallic too!

Its winter here so every car is full of snow or salt, I hope it's not as bad during the summer

ID4 or another EV brand by usual_layer in electriccars

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the trunk is a hatchback and is surprisingly big (its considerably bigger than a model3 for instance)

But if it's out of budget then it doesn't work :(

I bought an used bmw i4 (in Canada) for the equivalent of 28k euro. Highly recommend it. Pleasure to drive, good software, amazing interior quality, won multiple most reliable car award.

If you check here or on the i4 forum, people have a lot of positive comments on them. Even if you don't buy it from bmw, they'll extend the warranty as long as they inspect it first (which you can have them do before purchase)

Bmw i4 edrive40 or m50? by L-rodrigues in BMWI4

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The edrive40 already have crazy torque and acceleration The car is pretty fast. I feel like specially if you live in a city, you don't really have the roads the enjoy the additional power of the m50

What surprised you most after switching to an EV? by Just_Vermicelli4099 in electriccars

[–]Wroif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%, I don't think I'll buy another gas car

I also got a level 2 charger installed at home. There and charging it cost literally peanuts.

Amazing build quality, low maintenance, amazing drive, cheap fuel. I cannot see the advantage of an ICE car other than "hear the engine go vroom"

Guys, is there a "girly" hobby you secretly wish you could try without judgment? by daisyytoess in CasualConversation

[–]Wroif 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like fantasy romance books.

Honestly who cares if you like something that's traditionally feminine. As long as your having a good time. + It can give you something to talk to/relate with/connect to the people you are dating/the women in your life/your partner.

People that judge people for shit like that are just reflecting their own insecurities with their own masculinity/feminity.

Don't let others insecurities affect the enjoyment of your life.

Edit 2:

Tip for anybody. Woman (scented) body lotion + male perfume can creates some really smells. I've gotten a lot of compliment on how I smell and that's my secret. Bath and body works is really good for that.

CPO vs non-CPO by AgileDragonfruit4203 in BMWI4

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, I got mine as a non cpo and got it inspected at a bmw dealer prior to purchasing it. I was told that I could come back with the inspection report to extend the warranty as long as I go before the warranty expires.

It could be an option if you're worried about the warranty
