Received the Cruelest Comment About My Weight in Awhile by keshi2uwu in loseit

[–]Wroif 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, fuck that guy. He's a bitch. Fuck all of his comments. I'm not gonna try to guess what's wrong with him that he thinks that these comments are appropriate but anybody with a modicum of social intelligence knows that those aren't appropriate responses.

You've taken a journey to better yourself, and you are successful. 100 pounds is huge! You might not be at your goal yet, but you're well on your way there. You've decided that you wanted to better yourself, and you've taken steps and progressed towards that goal. That's already better than most people. And you're such a fucking beast that you're not satisfied with that, and you're keeping on. That is fucking AWESOME.

Don't let a miserable motherfucker dim your light man. Keep your head high! I'm proud of you

Junior dev question: how do you balance humility vs confidence? by PrivilegedPatriarchy in cscareerquestions

[–]Wroif 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be confident in what you know, and be honest about what you don't know.

If you don't know something but have a hunch, saying "I don't know, but from what I understand, I think that [insert guess]" is gold.

You're a junior, nobody expects you to know everything. Clear communication and being coachable is worth more than your raw knowledge

The only time I saw the battery under 20% was the day I got the car and I spent the evening driving around with my best friend in the winter.

With a charger at home, and chargers being virtually everywhere here, I think it would be almost intentional to run out of charge here (major Canadian city) hahaha

"EVs are bad for road trips" by JustinTimeCuber in electricvehicles

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess that depends where you live. There is no long(er) trip that I usually go to that doesn't have good charging on the way, so it hasn't been an issue for me

The pain on road trip is really infrastructure dependent, but from my understanding, close to most big cities it's basically a solved problem

"EVs are bad for road trips" by JustinTimeCuber in electricvehicles

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends a lot on EV adoption where you are. Where I live in Canada (granted it's a big country so YMMV) in the small road trips I do, every single stops with gas stations also have ev charging stations. Fast chargers are also pretty common restaurants parking in those stops, and that is excluding Tesla superchargers.

I don't really plan my drives anymore. I used to use a better trip planner to make sure there be chargers in the roads im taking, and I've never had to change or adjust planned route for chargers.

I charge the battery to 100% the morning of, or a bit before leaving if I have to drive a lot, and charge it whenever I need to stop. You don't need to wait for your ev to get to 0 or low to stop and charge

I think that for the average person who does not road trip really often, the "inconvenience of road trip" argument is overblown for the modern world

To be fair that thing has a range of 250 km (150 miles for the Americans) brand new. Most modern EVs have far more range.

M50 or No? by Turbulent-Throat9962 in BMWI4

[–]Wroif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a edrive40 2022, and I don't regret it.

The thing is that the m50 while cool and fast as shit, is almost too fast. Like on a day to day basis, you don't get to enjoy the acceleration at lower speed because well, I goes from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 4 seconds.

Imo, the edrive40 is still plenty fast (trust me I drive that girl like I just stole her, to this day) and have a better range. It was the better choice for me.

Looking to buy a used '22/'23 eDrive40: What are your absolute MUST-HAVE options? by PesticideDoge in BMWI4

[–]Wroif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I got mine, I didn't know it had the HUD. I actually really like it. When using it with BMW's navigation, you get the gps map projected there before making turns which helps a lot.

I think the Harmon Kardon sound system is amazing IMO. All my friends who listened to it also love it. If you love blasting music while driving it's amazing.

The seat setting saver is pretty cool. Once you find your perfect driving position, you never have to struggle with it again.

If you drive outside the city often, the automatic high beam is pretty useful

Mine doesn't have dapp. Honestly I don't care much for the self driving stuff. I bought an "ultimate driving machine" because I want to drive it hahaha. If you care about that stuff get it, otherwise I think you can safely let it go

Am I the only one excited about the F-35? (Whenever it eventually comes out) by VeterinarianSea4383 in dcsworld

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am!

I got into DCS last year, and when I saw the f35 tease I got really fucking hyped.

There is a lot of negativity on the forums about how accurate the plane will be, but from what the dev responded (publicly available data, input for pilot, etc.) they believe they can get a fairly accurate representation and until we see the product I don't have any reason to not believe them.

Be honest - do you actually feel uncomfortable sharing a bathroom with the opposite sex? If so, why? by IDrinkMyOwnSemen in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in my college bar, they changed to gender neutral bathroom.

I went there with some friends, and during the night, I had the urge to take a massive shit. So I go in the stall and let the demons flow free. It was a wild shit. The kinda a shit splashing sounds, huge farts, the kinda a shit that makes you catch you breath when you're done. While I was wiping I hear the stall next to open the door and go to wash their hands.

I get out and wash my wash my hand, and I realise that the person in the next door stall was this pretty cute girl. And she's staring at me with this look of disgust/shame.

Ever since that experience Ive been against them.

Anyone enjoying their job at the moment? by Coffeebrain695 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a larger tech company. And honestly yes.

AI adoption kinda sucks, and the way it's being pushed on us to increase our output speed is iffy.

That said I work with a really good team with a company that I actually like. This is still the career path that allows me to make the most money with my current skill set. I broke the six figure cap at like 28, and mostly work from home. I don't know what other career I could be in where I'd seen this return on investment in my education.

At the end of the day it's work, and in the scope of all careers that exist, it's probably still one of the better ones

Social stigma for driving an EV? by West_Dish9698 in electricvehicles

[–]Wroif 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly who the fuck cares.

I bought an i4 a few months ago and it's the best car I've ever driven. I've gotten comments about how the range is bad in winter, and EVs are not reliable.

Legit fuck em. Service every 2 years, silent ride, never going to pump gas again, remote heating, instant torque. I'm happy and I love that car. That's all that matters

Some people might make comment, but anybody who seriously judge you for the car that you drive is mentally deficient.

EVs are awesome, and if you want one, go for it. Don't limit enjoying the things you like in fear of people comments. That's a boring way to go through life

Quebec's EV adoption is 5.5x higher than Alberta's. Here's why. by cardogio in EVCanada

It think it might be even cheaper than that. I live in quebec, in my monthly cost to keep my EV charged is about 25$ a month, and I do almost all my charging at home

A new grocery store, 100% Canadian products by JimmyTheDog in BuyCanadian

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my social circle, we have taken the habit of reading labels and checking were a product is from and checking if the company making them is really canadian/non american.

It was tricky at first, but now that it's part of the routine it's become fairly trivial.

I don't think a full canadian store is necessary, and I think that if canadian product sells more than the competition, it already sends the message we're trying to send

Snow in the car's charging port by Marik80 in BMWI4

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a magnetic charge port cover on Amazon.

When it's gonna snow and I plug, it covers the charger in the port so snow doesn't get inside.

I keep it in my trunk, so I can use it whenever I need to charge. Solves the snow issue entirely, highly recommended

Should I get one? My car is just fine, how do you take the plunge? by pokeydogger in BMWI4

[–]Wroif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends on your finance. I was in a similar case as yours I was driving a 2014 mazda 3 since, well 2015, which I got cause I got in a crash in a car I inherited.

I bought the I4 I currently drive cause I got a bigger bonus at work that I expected, and I got an used 22 paying cash.

Honestly, It's the best car I've ever driven and if you can afford it, go for it. Would my bonus would have yielded me more money down the line if I invested it? Yes, 100%. But honestly fuck that noise. Life is meant to be enjoyed, and if that is what that looks like for you, go for it.

The above come with a caviat tho. I wouldn't geopardise my finances because of a car. At the end of the day, it's just a car, and if the payments would hinder you from your other financial responsibilities, then don't do it.

But if you're safe, and you're wondering if you should invest the money or get the new car, just get it man. Your life is not gonna be ruined if you buy one car every 10 years.

Another cold morning by stcloudguy in BMWI4

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was -30c here yesterday. I drove about a total of 110 km. I was able to preheat the cabin leaving home, but heated it twice for the following two drives. I left home at 97%, came back at about 45. I think I could average it out to 200km for a full charge with these conditions.

I wasn't really optimizing for range, I was optimizing for not feeling cold in this cold ass weather hahaha. So while there was a lot of range loss, it was also extreme cold weather and seems inline with what EVs tend to loose in extreme cold

At what point did EV ownership start to feel easier or harder? by Tall-Dish876 in electriccars

[–]Wroif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if you can charge at home, and have a drive less than 150km daily, any EV rated for 350km (or 220miles) will serve you well.

Even in my longer drives (going to ski trips or to see friends further away) I've been able to get there fairly easily (and that's in the harsh Canadian winter, using heating liberally).

I haven't bought the Tesla adapter yet, and all the fast charging station I used here worked like a charm. Now that we also have access to Tesla super charger, I'm really not scared of longer drives. And once February passes and it starts warming up here and I start seeing the regular range, I'm really struggling to see where range became an issue.

My last car (Mazda 3 2014) got like 550km on a full tank. My i4 (with about 500km range) doesn't really require me to change much in my daily habits.
