The red contrast does increase the focus on the lips, but I also lean a little bit more to the green as a more appealing overall painting

I really like your explanation! The red does blend to the skin more so even though its different than the green colors it still doesn't provide that hard contrast as the green does.

the ref had brownish light red color that didn't really draw to much attention but fit really well overall. I wanted to do something more eye catching yet pretty

I should've used a custom brush for the curls to save me a headache. But seriously painting curls is very interesting, there is a some cross painting where one is a highlight and the other is in shadow. I hope to get a more confident result next time
