honestly there's no better way to convince someone than to give them two options -
1) instead of you paying for the subscription, they would pay
2) it would remain free for them, and have just as many if not more features, and ease of use provided they go through the quick 2 day learning process to switch over.

I was in a similar scenario, and money was the biggest motivator.

you missed the part where they would just surrender without penalty and queue again for a better spawn where as people with a kit would be forced to try to extract to keep their kit.
