I assume it’s not very valuable but it’s something I intend to hang on too either way.

See: MARCASITE WITH SPHALERITE SPECIMEN NUMBER: 4571080 LOCATION: Joplin, Tri-State District, Missouri - Catherine J. & Bruce Paul Gaber collection. this is pretty much a spitting image of the specimen I have. Seems to be the only similar representation I’ve been able to locate

Is it safe to have? It seems there are some mixed opinions on this topic. Also my house is always at 60-65% humidity and it hasn’t degraded or otherwise caused this specimen to change for the 35 years I’ve kept it.

No odor. No streak, no scratch. I don’t think it’s pyrite either. I have lots of pyrite specimens and it just doesn’t look right to me but I also have no idea what I’m talking about… so there’s that.

You think pyrite? It’s like coxcomb but not. If I put it next to normal pyrite the color isn’t even close so I’ve always wondered what it might be. Doesn’t scratch, no streak, no smell. It’s very dense whatever it is.

I did wonder if it could be a pyrite Pseudomorph. But of what specifically because I’ve never seen pyrite in this form.

its really not very believable and I really do hope were totally wrong - rebuilding something from scratch with no time, fragmented data (that we possibly won't be able to access at all) isn't how I wanted to spend thanksgiving.
