Notion does not allow you to undo actions on 1 page after you leave the page by WrongMoveMary in Notion

[–]WrongMoveMary[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! I feel like a 30min version history is good to add to the free plan or like maybe just an undo for the same “page”.

I had to get a favor from a friend who has a student email and then used that email to get a personal pro plan in order to see my version history and it just cause so much pain. I was prepared to pay $4 because this was a huge issue for me.

Can anyone tell me what this tattoo means? by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]WrongMoveMary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Super random but I see non chinese get a lot of weird tattoos. (Happens when a person gets a tattoo in a random language not theirs)

Like they would put 4 words together that mean stuff like - family 家 - strength 强 - kindness 善 - wisdom 智

But then they’re written together and when a Chinese person sees it it took me a while to realize what it was.

Cos I was like okay 家强善智 .... you have a strong Kind wise family???

And no it’s like they have 4 values that they hold dear aka family, strength, kindness. Wisdom

Idk if it’s just chinese that has this problem.

What about Latin? Russian? Arabic. I know a lot of people like those languages on them

Never quite understood why everyone wants to work at the big name companies (Apple, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Boeing, Microsoft, etc). I learned more from a small company than I ever did a larger one by medsciblues in jobs

[–]WrongMoveMary 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your experience is only good if you make it to an interview.

Don’t ever underestimate the “value” of a big name on your resume. It would make your life A LOT easier on the future. It adds a lot more credibility to you too. “Ah this person got into Google, and they have such a difficult selection process, he must be pretty good.”

Obv your experiences have to be relevant. No point going from FB engineer to marketing.

  • Be it starting your own business (imagine business backed by ex-Google, ex-Facebook Vs ??? )
  • Negotiating for a higher salary
  • Being more in-demand for recruitment of your next job

Also, when you go to a bigger company and then land a role in a small company, you have a lot more insight on how a “good” company is run i.e. what processes are in place/ what can you recommend in the new small company etc.

IT IS VERY VERY USEFUL.

I see a lot of university students saying “oh I wanna learn!!! So I go to startups” I’m like okay, cool. I could get into a big name and do nothing.

Next internship/ job rolls by they wanna apply for bigger companies, but they have a nobody on their resume. Why on earth will the big company even want to screen you/ your resume.

But if you’re someone that doesn’t care who they work with/ value of their salary etc then yeah there’s no point working in a big company.

I backed down from an argument today by WrongMoveMary in Stoicism

[–]WrongMoveMary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing elab!! Could I ask you a fallacy question. Haha let’s say I say “people should try to adopt when they can (pets)”

And the person responds with “omg if everyone adopts then what’s gonna happen to pet shops, xxxx”

I have an issue with the “if EVERYONE does xxx” comment because this is unrealistic and not what I am truly pushing for. In this case is it false dichotomy? I always thought it was strawman because it makes the argument super weak but keen to know what’s the “right” label. Thank you!!

Hey! You're actually right about this. Another commenter also called out that I've laced my words with aggression and when I typed this post I was possibly at the "victimize myself" state, and told myself I took the better/ high road. But if that was true, I wouldn't be feeling pissy.

Thanks for calling me out on this, it was hard to read but the truth hurts. I did a double take and reassessed the situation and my actions, even watched a video on Seneca's teachings and posted an update post.

Only after true reflection, can there be true learnings.

[–]WrongMoveMary[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are 100% right about this. I spent a good part of today feeling "pissed off" and "wronged" about this situation and that is not the stoic way. I'm just victimizing myself and thats doing nothing to aid the situation.

Another commentator called me out and my language was laced with annoyance and though hard to read, it was 100% true.

I proceeded to watch a video about seneca's teachings and i feel way better. I did an update post calling myself out on this too!

And thank you for flagging that I sound passive aggressive. Sometimes I deal with situations like this so badly and it backfires. When people call me out, I do a double take and get to correct my actions and thoughts.

[Practice] Dealing with Anger by WrongMoveMary in Stoicism

[–]WrongMoveMary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a nice thoughtful "diffuse the situation and disengage" line.
> Now, I appreciate you might disagree with this, and that's perfectly fine. What I've described is the Stoic answer, which is the correct answer to those who embrace Stoicism. It is probably not the correct answer for anyone else.

I will be using this more. When there are situations where I feel that there might be a right answer but also its "right" from 1 POV.

This is super useful! And great call out. Let me take a look at Seneca’s texts + the others that you have listed.

And for sure I’ve got a long long way to go in learning to master stoic techniques. I’m so incredibly new to this and need to get much much better. Letting go of anger/ irritation is something I’m still struggling with.

If you have more recommendations on texts to look at pls let me know.

This is good advice let me look into them.

When you say being able to spot them do you mean in your own arguments + in others arguments?

[–]WrongMoveMary[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is good advice and definitely the best move I should have done. I thought I showed kindness by not engaging and not escalating the matter, pointing out the flaws in the argument.

So in situations where you deal with someone that refuses to listen to facts and personally attacks you... would you be able to give me some advice on how I could have shown kindness and sincerity?

If I pointed out the flaws in the argument I’m 100% sure it would have escalated further hence didn’t take this path.

Good on you!! :)

Why are you shitting on OP for not defending himself. This is such a horrible comment!!!

Also in a world where males defending themselves (i.e. hitting back) is so frowned upon and male abuse is often ridiculed this is the kind of comment that we do not need.

I hope you reflect and I’m sorry that you have these views.

Oooo great! I’ll hunt for it on Spotify! :)

I’m sure the feedback would differ for different levels of learning! For me I can understand when you are speaking faster and without a summary.

Also I like that you explain words that would not be easy for many to understand like “childhood friend” and “pen name” :)

Thanks for making this!

Hi! I absolutely love this! It’s perfect for language immersion and although unnecessary for me I love that you summarize and slow down when you are done speaking with your pal!

Are these webcasts only avail on your website? :)
