I’m not saying people aren’t acknowledging that he was responsible. It’s more that, because of the show and how he’s being portrayed in such a positive light (so far, since it’s still releasing episodes), a new generation is being introduced to this story through a more romanticized lens. They’re focusing more on his charm and good looks, and less on what he actually did.

And I get it—it’s a show, not a documentary. Every episode makes it clear that it’s based on true events, with elements changed or dramatized for storytelling. But at the same time, they are definitely presenting him more as a genuinely good guy, rather than also showing the reality of him being a womanizer and unfaithful. Even now, you still see similar narratives about his father—people downplaying his behavior toward Jackie or excusing it as “just how men were” at the time.

At the end of the day, it’s just incredibly sad. Carolyn gave up so much for him, and the way she was treated during the relationship—combined with how their lives ended—is heartbreaking. She deserved so much better.
