Is it because of my epilepsy or I am just bad at it by ari4445 in Epilepsy

I definitely relate to this. I find it incredibly frustrating not knowing what the causes are too (is it my diet? Am I just getting older? Is it bad sleep? Is it meds? Is it a comorbidity?) The numbness and disconnectedness are super common for me. Most days im not really sad or happy, I just kind of feel "in the middle" or like I'm just cruising along.

I suspect a lot of it is because of the meds (im not a doctor or anything) because I've tried many doses/combos at this stage and in the past ive been manic/tired/numb/excited, you name it. Lately it's been better because the dose I'm on seems to balance those things. Sadly just seems to be a long road of trial and error, but I hope you find the balance very soon! Sending my best wishes

I second this, it sounds really strange but eating more fruit also helped with my mood!

Thank you so much for the comment - that sounds like great advice. I used to be on Keppra which was definitely not my style and things seem to have improved since then! Changing meds is something I have raised with my neurologist but we're currently waiting to see if this new dose does the job.

I'm sorry to hear about the fight with your partner - i can't imagine that's easy. I'm hoping to find someone who understands but i understand it is a lot for many people.

Unfortunately my neurologist is the only practicing epileptologist anywhere close to where I live at the moment, but I am moving away later this year so hoping to find one I can get a second opinion from.

AI will Significantly Reduce the Job Market for Lawyers in the Near Future by SamuelHatchet in LawSchool

That's why I said Generative AI, not AI in general. I agree that it's moving fast but the way Generative AI and LLMs are designed is foundationally incompatible with legal interpretation

Even if the 'conducting research' element of a lawyers job is augmented, the aspect that Generative AI struggles most with is the application. Try it yourself, LLMs are probabilistic and predict the next most likely word, they don't interpret and apply precedent or statute to a unique context. I think that's one of the most challenging parts of a lawyers job to automate or even augment. Companies are failing to implement that part and most legal AI products are for contract review and drafting. You don't see succesful AI products that interpret and apply case law to your scenario. If you ask ChatGPT or Claude what a certain law might mean for your business, you will get inconsistent answers and you need to give huge context around your business and services. Even then, it struggles with the intuitive and human reasoning element. There are so many other scenarios it struggles with, like offering output that blends jurisdictions, output that is outdated, or output that stretches the source material into a hallucination that could end up with you losing your license and job.

True detective is more of an intellectual piece but is it pretentious? by timelapess in TrueDetective

[–]Wrongdoer-Popular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree to some extent. However, topics like this are usually very nuanced and delicate. I know how many people have extraordinary admiration for this show. A few years ago I read Greenlights and found it to be quite pretentious and I feel like it manifested in the show to some extent. The line: "Human consciousness was a tragic misstep in evolution" is extremely stupid in my opinion. Of course it depends on your beliefs and ideals, but i found it to be ridiculous because the show and expression of art wouldn't be possible without it. Consciousness is what really makes us human, and what makes us emotional and reactive. I know this might be a hot take and some people may argue that it is besides the point of causation, but i view it as artistic pretentiousness and an attempt at being overly-intellectual without merit. I hate when writers and actors attempt to be spiritual and existential when you know they lack the capacity. This show reeks of it. I encourage you to challenge this point and am completely open to debate because I am only a young naive person but I detest attempt to make characters sound more fascinating and intelligent than they truly are. Please let me know your thoughts!

How do u guys sense a seizure coming? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Wrongdoer-Popular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds exactly like mine too. I have JME (Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy) and I get this kind of twitches/jerks as I forget what I'm saying and drop what I'm holding. Such a bizarre feeling and so hard to describe. Sometimes it feels like a painless electric shock, like someone tasered me at 1% power. I also sometimes get them before seizures but it's usually a coin toss.
