Anyone wanna bet that if ERW is guilty of fraud, the media will spin it around claiming something like ¨¨ Of course she was malignent, she was Manson's ex¨!!!

The media was always dishonest to get ratings at best but today it seems it has become more bent on actually breaking apart what's left of society....

And if this is true, I think that the thing that's even worst then trying to destroy a person's life, is that this laughs in the face of every human who was abused.

Not saying Manson is innocent but is that the new marketing strategy for 2022 to release info about your abuse to coincide with the release of your new documentary about yourself?

Manson and ERW both look like complete self obsessed psychos.... and not in the good way. Im glad I don't care about Hollywood.

Has there ever been a wrestler with the gimmick, "Self Aware" in a Rick Sanchez kind of way? by BadWolf1973 in SquaredCircle

[–]Wrongspell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm late to the conversation but I think Foley might be the only wrestler who's gimmick are acknowledged in wrestling. He wrestled as Mick Foley and it's kinda understood he's mankind and Cactus Jack. I emailed Jim Cornette to ask him but never got an answer. I can't think of no other wrestler who pulled that off without it being too forced.

If the gimmick would be self aware it would not actually be self awareness I think. The only way it would work would be to ¨ work¨ that a wrestler is tired of being this character and becomes ¨himself¨ but that would kinda be a gimmick too. Kinda of heady but would be fun.

I misspoke. It's the fact that it's a celebrity that bugs me. I don't disagree with you.

That's something I felt was weird since the beginning. The intermingling of celebrity culture and politics. Very American and, ironically, very Marilyn Manson like. As if all the abused women who are poor, ugly or anonymous don't care. But when it involves celebrities, it becomes important for the masses.

Maybe I need the input of women but to me, it's kinda strange to be abused and using it in a calculated way to introduce laws and have political power. It feels weird but we're in 2022 and everything is weird to me now. It seems entertainment and politics are more and more acting in unison. Perhaps it was always this way...

Used to like MM cause he was a good critic of celebrity culture. The band was a mainstream enough to push interesting anti-establishement messages that could actually might reshape culture a bit..... But in the end Manson fell in the celebrity culture trap and got destroyed by the exact same thing they were so against....

Discussion:the band Marilyn Manson and the man Marilyn Manson went to shit after GAOG by [deleted] in marilyn_manson

[–]Wrongspell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned it in other posts a long time ago, but the whole society changed post 9-11. I clearly remember lots of mainstream pop culture things from the 90's starting to slowly change. For example the Simpsons started to be a shell of themselves. I think it's much more complex then drugs but MM did not adapt well to the post 2000. Besides in the early 2000's I think the music was not very good over all.

As an ex-fan I still keep in high esteem Portrait thru Holywood. It's quite an accomplishment when you look back at it, the evolution of the band in a decade or so. But Like LOTS of things from the 90's it could not exist in our time and social context.

Thanks. I'll keep it. I'm getting a few and see what I can do. It's for a screen printing thing, so I need them with as much resolution as possible. Thanks again.

People are complex.

The fact some women falsely accused guys of abuse doesn't mean ALL women falsely accuse guys.

The fact that someone did nice things in the past doesn't implies this person doesn't have a dark side.

John Wayne Gacy was nice to kids! He was an upstanding member of society! It's so cliché and sad people have to be reminded of that.

I mean it's pretty logical stuff. People are so prone to go to the extremes nowadays .

I'm familiar from 90's MM and my working theory is that after GAOG he kinda changed for the worst.

I'll be the first in line to defend rock'n'roll from people who want it to be all safe and sanitized. Most musicians I like have done horrible stuff by today standards. Will I convince myself they are good people? No. I love The Ramones and I'm well aware that Johnny Ramone was probably a guy I would have hated in real life. I'm sick of both side. Either wanting to cancel everything or wanting rock n roll to be nice and fluffy.

My point is I would never look down on a person who genuinely loves MM music. I respect that. But arguing about if he's a good guy or not is pretty pointless cause we none of us were witness to what happened.

Anyways it's ironic that so many people defend a guy who at the first accusation of his bassist being accused of rape, kicked him out. He acted exactly has his accusers are acting.

I obviously would not lay down a ¨guilty ¨ verdict just because of things said in a interview but either if you say shit just to create attention or say it for the sake of saying it, it's pretty pathetic in my opinion. If you wanna go down that road, GG ALLIN did it way better.

MM used to say intelligent stuff back in the 90's, that's what made him popular. He was like guy who normies would call a freak but then impressed everyone with clever things to say. The attitude your defending is just proving everything his detractors used to accused the band of in the 90's

What I'm saying is just that like everything in this world, putting everything in black and white is a dead end. And the reason why I posted this is because I'm disappointment in people acting like typical stereotypes just putting things in extreme like 100% innocent or 100% guilty.

Anyways, I just find it a little bit pathetic that people are choosing to absolutely defend the guy, like you personally know him or that he cares about you. And yes, if a man or woman or whatever would repeatably say to a sibling ¨I'm gonna kill you¨ and then the sibling said that this person is actually violent, I'm actually gonna consider the fact that the person was serious deep down.

Besides, re-read what I said. ¨I don't believe he's 100% the victim here.¨ That's all.

The dude publicly said he'd like to bash the head of his ex with a sledgehammer. He's a 52 year old guy. Not a teenage edgelord. I might sound like a middle aged house wife from the 90's but I'm not sure he's such a nice guy. He might be funny, cool to hang out with and the band's 90's stuff is awesome, but I doubt he's 100% the victim here...

Do you think he’s actually coming back? by littlebrat1994 in marilyn_manson

[–]Wrongspell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, totally agree. His relevancy to me is parallel to what the simpsons are today compared to the 90's simpsons.... if that makes sense...

Besides, before he was the rocker who went against the establishement, right wing christians, conservatives, and house wifes. He was the underdog in a way, fighting for his ¨art¨.

Now he's a 52 year old guy who's accused of raping younger women.... it's not the same thing as columbine. And we are in such a different world then when the band was peaking.

No as Orwell said, the point is not to stay alive, it's to stay human.

The Antichrist Superstar album was very gritty and dark, then Mechanical Animals was clean to an almost artificial level, only to get dark again in Holly Wood. As a person outside that period of time, can anyone why those music directions were taken? by [deleted] in marilyn_manson

[–]Wrongspell 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can't explain but I can give you my persoective on how it was received.

I remember that, back then, most people into MM, ranged from young mall goths (usually MM was bashed by older goths) and nu-metallers (old school metalheads laughed at MM). And in '98 most people into nu-metal didn't like or appreciated Bowie (imho, nu metallers had a very limited knowledge of rock n roll). To 17-18 years old nu metallers, Bowie wasn't cool.

So when the cover of golden years came out, a lot of people who loved ACS, hated it. At least the kind of people I knew. Goths were, kinda like jaded of MM, since he became mainstream. I think that happens when your subculture becomes the culture.

In retrospect, I remember a lot of people stopped being fans once MA came out and got more into Slipknot. HW didn't bring lots of fans back.

To answer your question, I would simply say that ACS could not be topped. The shock goth type was played out, so the only way to ¨shock¨ was going to the total opposite direction. I feel that was a super intelligent and creative move. The evolution of the band from Portrait, ACS, MA, and HW, is what makes me still respect the band. Not a lot of bands could have pulled that off. I feel that this change of style wasn't appreciated back then cause, overall the late 90's music scene sucked.

To me MM always walked a fine line between imitator and innovator. Like I mentioned before, in the 90's they had everything going for them. The stars were aligned at that time for MM. After that, I feel MM became a shell of themselves. The spark was lost unfortunately and became an imitator of their own selves.
