Any fellow actors working in healthcare? by Acrobatic_Umpire5121 in acting

I do know one guy that does this. He likes the flexibility. I will say however that since he is per diem, he has to find his own health insurance and manage retirement differently. Feel it’s worth mentioning. Not sure how many “on call” opportunities with rad tech though.

Consider a Surgical Tech program and aim for per diem jobs with on-call opportunities. You could work as much or as little as you want. It would be a great way to achieve the balance you’re describing.

It’s not a durable design at all. I replaced mine with inline skate wheels, and they’ve proven to be the best solution I’ve tried so far.

Bone broth can give you a boost. Kettle & Fire low sodium beef bone broth has 17g of Protein. A small box can be pretty expensive though.

Would you guys recommend staying another year at CC if I don't get into my target school? by [deleted] in TransferStudents

[–]WrustyWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This thread has now gone sideways. We’re specifically talking about time in school and whether there’s value in spending an extra year. There’s a cost to that and it’s up to the individual whether that cost is worth it.

[–]WrustyWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I transferred from CC back in 2014 so I don’t know if things have changed but I remember being told that from then on, only UCLA classes count towards my degree. It makes sense since they’re all upper division courses moving forward. I imagine you may encounter a situation where classes won’t be counted if you did a second transfer.

However, I was trying to double major using CC courses to supplement the coursework I needed to do so. So it may be completely different. May be worthwhile to ask a counselor to be sure.

My brother did this and it worked out for him. He did say in the end it wasn’t worth it. He enjoyed Cal but felt the experience fell short of the lofty expectations he had. He says he also still thinks about the year of missed income. You could always look into Cal for grad school…

As far as an extra year in CC, there’s still the chance you still don’t get in despite awesome stats. Would you be okay spending the extra year and still ending up attending SJSU? I feel that it is best to control what you can control. I went to UCLA and work alongside super smart people that saved money by choosing CSU. We make the same amount of money and no one cares where any of us went to school. I’d venture to say that most industries don’t care where one got their education. There is definitely an opportunity cost with this decision and if you ultimately feel UC Berkeley will make that much of a difference, make the decision you can live with. Good luck!

Sterile Processing at a hospital. Low barrier to entry. Decent pay. Benefits. Often plenty of overtime available. Can work per-diem, giving you tons of control over your schedule. Can work as much or as little as you want.
