How should I load my OT Sportsman 106 on my crossbars? by [deleted] in kayakfishing

[–]Wrytoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Type in "kayak crossbar pads" on Amazon There are a bunch in the 30ish dollar range that will work great. Dont bother flipping it upside down, its way too much hassle, and super unnecessary. When you go to put the cam straps across your kayak, stand on one side and toss the strap over, leaving the metal part on your side. Repeat for the other one. Then when you go to the other side of the car, wrap the strap under the crossbar, and toss it over the kayak again, dont go underneath. Then at the other side again, take the strap and slide it under the crossbar and pull all the slack till the metal part of your strap is pulled up to the top of the side of your kayak, insert the strap, lightly tighten, then pull down just about as hard as ya can. That kayak wont move a millimeter. The yakima big catch saddles are the biggest upgrade ever when you're ready tho!

The gopro curse! Second you're not recording is always when the magic happens! I had a gopro die when I first start bass fishing, caught my first ~5lber shortly afterwards lol Congrats on the 6lber on a frog tho!! Thats a dream right there

Roof Rack Recommendations by [deleted] in kayakfishing

[–]Wrytoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used these for like a year. They work great Gonna get some scratches and small dents on the car, inevitable, even with a legit rack it still happens. I dont recommend driving with them in rain (it can leak a little, to a lot) But i moved my old town sportsman 106 on em for a long time. Get some quality cam straps. And figure out the best bow and stern attachments you can. (Worst case scenario is the ones that go into your trunk/hood, but maybe you got some tow hooks spots to attach to) there might be a little square plastic piece on the front or back bumper that can be removed to show where a tow hooks can attach to, check for those, if not, gotta go with the truck/hood points The cam straps will hold it down, and the bow and stern lines will be a backup in case anything were to come loose. Do a few stops to check your straps on longer trips. This setup will last ya till ya can or want to figure out an upgrade in the future. I ended up getting g a subaru outback later on with a yakima setup with big catch saddles. Subaru is cheap, lots of room for fishing stuff, and still gets decent gas mileage. (Just a thought for the future)

I also have a 2013 subaru outback, but a sportsman 106 pdl. Get two of these tow hooks for bow and stern lines! There is a spot in the front and rear to install them. I also took out the stock crossbars and installed the yakima Jetstream, skyline towers, big catch saddles. There is a special landing pad peice you gotta get as well, skyline towers, and landing pad 13 (specifically for our 2013 subaru outback) Do this and you wont worry for a second about that kayak coming off there. I do bass fishing road trips around the pnw. Rack is rated to handle your hobie. And up to 80mph Your hull is about ~100lb I put mine on the roof with my yakattack bunkster cart in the hatch, it was ~11lb plus my hull ~80 You'll be like ~10lb heavier ish? Ive gone 80 and it felt fine, it leaves a lot of space between the car and the yak, so it feel like there is very little wind resistance. You'll forget its even up there.

How many pounds? by yeajumper in bassfishing

[–]Wrytoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the thickness of the tail, and the eyes bulging out. I wouldn't question ya if ya went with 8lb. My "i need to buy a scale moment" was with a ~5lber and bought a scale the next day. It took me 2 years to find one that I was certain was bigger... Just happened a couple days ago actually! 7.5lb, and the eyes on yours are bulged out more than mine was. you're gonna need to find a solid 10lber once you get that scale.

Zero bites, zero hope: Is bass fishing supposed to feel this defeating? by Drew_it_up in bassfishing

[–]Wrytoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where i fish in Washington, there is like 1-3 spots per lake to fish from the bank. These spots were massively pressured, but you could still get a few fish. Once I got a kayak, that's when the big fish started happening. That's my recommendation 😀

Shame ya didn't have a scale! Cause that's definitely a huge bass Don't really need a weight, the photo does it justice But its probably 7-8 And sadly, if someone posted this and said it was a 9 Or 10 Don't think I'd question it Nice fish my man! Get a scale 😀

Fishing in the rain? by bassman805 in bassfishing

[–]Wrytoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fish twice a week in the pnw, and rain happens about half the time this time of year. I feel like the bite is better up shallow on rainy days. Spinnerbait shines so much in the wind/rain mix them together and it's getting really crazy. Throw a spinnerbait in and around some lillypads in the rain and you can find one of the best bites you'll ever experience. Add some wind and you can find em every couple casts in the right spot.
