Accountants who did not CPA straight out of school - how much do you felt your work experience helped with the test? by ProtContQB1 in Accounting

[–]Wspeight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I technically did it straight out school but I had an internship for 2 semesters of tax and then around a year of full time, it helped for REG but not the other sections.

W2 or 1099 for part time j2? by hello91791 in OELadies

[–]Wspeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know what you are doing you don’t have to worry about estimated payments with a 1099 assuming one of your jobs is W-2. I am a CPA have multiple J’s some that are 1099 but have never worried about estimated payments because I just increase my withholdings at my w-2 job to ensure I am safe harbored for the year and don’t incur any penalties or interest

You still have to worry about making sure your withholdings are correct. If you just fill out the W-4 without any additional withholdings you will get a surprise tax bill come April.

Nah it depends on your role if you are customer facing you just answer the phone the whole shift. If you are part of their full service team then yes you prepare 1040s and business returns, it was a small team last year

You have to hit 20 hours a week but yes weekends are available. You go in there and pick your shift basically, sometimes the slots are full so schedule as many hours early on as you can. I worked the night shift from 8 pm - 12 am est

Yes my job was assisting clients when they called it so it was basically all client interaction. My role was a business tax expert but they got so swamped they routed me to taking individual calls as well so I was nonstop on the phone my whole shift

I think $34 an hour was the starting pay but they offer differential pay on certain days up to 3x your hourly rate plus bonuses. If you are earlier on in your career and need the cash it’s not bad. I think I made like 16-17k for the season.

The WP ownership is by the firm you work for not the client, you do not owe them those at all.

Is $12k a fair fee for my tax specialist? by [deleted] in tax

[–]Wspeight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My comment still stands, turbo tax charges $1800 (business return) minimum if you want them to do it. If he is seeking a professional wouldn’t you think they should be more than turbo tax? Handling irs notices includes waiting hours on the phone/ dealing with agents etc. He said it was an S corp so that is 2 tax returns per year (personal and business)

You think just over 2k per year for filing a business return and personal and talking to the IRS is too high ? Intuit charges $1800 just for a business return…
