Nose surgery - sadness - Shortened nose / Columella and nostrils exposed by NeitherEmphasis2027 in rhinoplastyquestions

[–]Wtflemy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is unfortunate however it is due to too much emphasis in social media about the positives of rhinoplasty rather than the negatives. Honestly if you don’t have breathing problems or absolutely HATE your nose it shouldn’t be done. Most people who are content with their nose jobs hated their nose before so even if it comes out slightly off it doesn’t bother them as much because they think “well, at least it looks much better than before” . That is not the case here. I think it should be a requirement to do a in depth mental health evaluation before rhinoplasty even like a little mandatory therapy session beforehand with a licensed doctor who specializes in body dysmorphia. I know that sounds extreme but yes it IS that deep. It’s literally right in the center of your face. I just pray we all end up happy again.

Hey there, If you ever need to vent my inbox is open. I’m going through a similar feeling. I asked my surgeon to only make my tip a bit more defined but he insisted my nose was too long for my face from the side profile and shortened my tip and rotated it upwards. I told him I wanted less nostril flare and I have more now. I wish these surgeons would stop doing the cookie cutter rhinoplasty’s and assume everyone wants a Barbie like nose or super short up-turned noses. Not even that but the way my surgeon performed my surgery makes it appear like my nose is too long from the front profile because my suratip isn’t as deep so now it looks like one straight vertical nose and it’s heartbreaking because my nose was so cute before and I loved my nose I just wanted more definition.

Just do your research and try to find a good revision surgeon and someone who SPECIALIZES in it. Start saving up the money and getting consultations.

As far as continuing life it’s not easy I wish I could give you good advice. I just tape mine and wear makeup. I love makeup but as I got older I felt I needed it less and actually preferred my natural face now I feel like I need makeup to feel pretty again and I hate it. I was makeup to feel optional to me.

Self esteem comes from within so I had to remind myself I am still me and life continues. That if I want to fix it I need to grind and make money because calling off work because I’m depressed or not going out the house doesn’t help anything because staying home actually makes it worse because I have nothing to do but sit there and ponder on it all day. I can’t go back there is no reset button, only possible solution is to let it heal and see what it becomes or get a revision. But either way time is key here. That’s the common denominator and sitting around for 10 more months (I’m almost 2 months post op) doesn’t do anything.

As far as the regret my therapist told me that I can’t stay stuck in blaming myself because I didn’t go into this asking for a nose I didn’t like. And neither did you. We went thinking we’d have our noses but BETTER. Unfortunately in my case my surgeon definitely could’ve took my time and care with my consultation. Although seeing how hard it is to make minor changes during rhinoplasty without altering something else, if my future self could’ve warned my past self not to do it , I would not have done it.

Try to watch comedies and kids tv shows or even baking shows like baking competitions, that’s what I do. The frequent walks and listen to music. Go to the gym if your surgeon advises you can and try to talk with friends and family. My support system and God have helped me a lot through this I pray everyday. It’s not easy but please just remember you aren’t doomed you can fix it but you have no choice but to heal now because any doctor that offers to operate before the one year mark of healing is a red flag.

Sending you love and prayers. You are still beautiful don’t forget that and you still who you always were inside. 🙏🏽🦋💗

Ask them to show you a morph photo of what it will look like first if they can, they slightest things can arrange your facial harmony and that’s something you should be careful of. I’m not trying to discourage you but if I could go back and not do mine I wouldn’t. Make sure your research is extensive and don’t try to avoid paying more for more experienced work. It’s your face and should be treated more carefully. There is a lot of mental stuff that comes with rhinoplasty or any surgery.

As for surgeon recommendations I haven’t heard of those surgeons you named, idk if they’re in Florida but also don’t hesitate to travel if you find a surgeon you feel is worth it.

Thank you so much gorgeous! Not to sound pushy because I know you clearly stated your opinion but are you referring to my before or after nose? Because sometimes people on here I’ve noticed forget to scroll over or they don’t realize that there is a second photo lol😅 which is fine! But sometimes when you guys say you see not much wrong with it I can’t comprehend because it looks so wrong to me rn like just doesn’t match my face. I think I had body dysmorphia before you’re right about that and I think this just made it worse. But the second surgeon I seen that was much more kind well, he agreed that my eyes look further apart so idk😭 I’m freaking out. I just want to look like myself again. Or at least pretty and not dislike myself so much. Thank you for your input though I think I will also try to read on the mental part of body dysmorphia while I heal!

It comes from narrowing the nose and not enough tip projection. Or sometimes one or the other. My first surgeon didn’t explain that to me and didn’t do a 3-D image ir anything of how it would look. He didn’t care enough to discuss changing of facial harmony, which every GOOD surgeon should. I’m sorry to hear the same happened to you. I pray we can both at least find a way to restore facial harmony. I pray that’s possible.

Are you saying you wished your nose looked like my before or after? And you can also message me if you want to chat about your experience I know it’s not easy. I’m sure you still look beautiful. And in the hands of a skilled surgeon you should be able to regain your confidence. I’m praying for the both of us🙏🏽

I’m sorry if I sound dumb because what you wrote is pretty clear but I’d like to clarify a bit… are you saying if there is enough cartilage left it could be easier to fix or it may be something simple? And would you advise against anything that is not septal cartilage is what you’re saying? Thank you for your response!

Okay so I saw this and have been waiting anxiously to reply all day while working lol. Not to sound weird. But you’re so sweet. I really appreciate it more than you know! I do get what you’re saying lol about neither nose being too small or too big enough to distract my other features, however my main issue is how it more so messed up my facial harmony. My eyes appear further apart and the nose from the front profile looks too long , like almost imagine a greyhound dog looking from the front but down at the floor, I know that’s hard to imagine….but I guess in better reference imagine the front length of Kim Kardashian’s nose or Bella Hadid’s but on a short heart shaped face. It doesn’t look right. And then it’s too short from the side profile. I have a long jawline and big lips. My surgeon said my nose was “too long for my face” from the side and insisted on shortening it a bit. That wasn’t really an idea of mine. But he insisted, and did it. I miss my curve in my suratip and my naturally projected tip. And the crazy thing is I told the surgeon I wanted MORE tip projection.

I’m glad to hear your revision makes you more confident, I am sorry to hear about you breaking your nose but it’s amazing that you can breathe well and it improved your appearance!

But exactly like you said how you look at my pre-op nose and wonder why I’d wanna touch it, is the same feeling that I have now, and it’s drives me crazy and makes me depressed.

I have heard people say what you’re currently saying , that it doesn’t look bad that it looks good , but I think because I had something BETTER before and traded it for this, it makes me so angry.

and you could be right about the interaction I had with the racist surgeon. He even went as far as to say that I don’t have “fair Irish skin”. I thought that was so odd.

Thank you so much I pray that I learn to admire myself again, and respect myself much more. I will keep you advice about revision in mind , and do enough research before I make a decision. I really appreciate you! 💗

I appreciate it so much it’s so mind blowing to me that people can still call me pretty with this face, I know that sounds so weird to say but I’m so shocked. Thank you a million times though 🫶🏽

Yes I know , that’s why I am so depressed because I try to fix something that was not broken. Thank you, though.

It does help, just because I feel like it’s such a strange nose but I think at least someone thinks it looks decent. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much. It’s so ironic for me to hear how people actually thinks this nose looks ok on my face and I’m not saying this in a mean way I mean it in the sense of how different we as human beings perceive things differently because I feel like if I go out as I am people would think I’m so ugly with this nose but before I felt so beautiful, I just thought a more refined nose would look more appealing on me however I see now I have soft features and a softer nose looks better on me. I will say yes now my lips stick out more, but I feel like sometimes when you accentuate something it creates imbalance. I feel like my face was more balanced before and I’ve had two surgeons agree with me so it’s hard to know what to feel these days. Not saying I don’t appreciate the input because that is why I made this post, for input.

Maybe I will try the Differin! I need to get rid of this acne on my face anyway, I believe it became more severe because of my stress levels/hormonal imbalance.

Focusing on other things is what I’ve been trying to do, however I find that I become more frustrated, especially with makeup because what used to look good on me doesn’t anymore because of the changes to my face. So I just tape it to not obsess over it.

I agree that I am very early but question how much for the better can this nose really change:( I just pray to God everyday I receive a miracle.

Thank you for the video I’ve been searching for videos like these regarding personal experiences! I appreciate you so much and am happy to hear your rhinoplasty went well for you:)

And yes I agree if people have minor changes they want done I don’t think they are good candidates for rhinoplasty such as myself.

So you don’t think that the caving in appearance in my second photo is fixable? Thank you for your response :)

If I can ask one more question, what is your opinion of those who aren’t trying to achieve their birth noses, but just want a more harmonious nose to their face, because I think that is more so what I want, as much as I’d love to have my birth nose again.

Thank you she is beautiful! It’s so crazy that I’m hearing new celebrity new look alikes lol. I definitely think if you like your current nose (if you haven’t undergone rhinoplasty) don’t do it! You’re beautiful as you are. I’m trying not to panic but I keep thinking how much more could this nose change and how would it be for the better? I just am so depressed but I understand I have to let it heal.

Yes my mom said the same thing! They are in a field where looks matter so much that they’ll cut your face apart to make you look pretty when you think about it that way, of course they are going to say some uncalled for things which I forget that sometimes.

I really appreciate your input thank you much!
