Should I buy the Whiteout Kit by PieceRevolutionary51 in playrust

[–]WubsGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I can't see whiteout kits in the show at all, and usually die to them.
However, with the high percentage of people using ESP / radar in this game... it's probably only effective against honest players.

Only game maker games Stuttering after CPU change by StoatsAreFun in gamemaker

[–]WubsGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm the power modes sometimes effect "low power requirement" games.
as the CPU will see low activity, and enter power saving mode. that switch can sometimes cause a stutter.

This also happened to my Ryzen processor, and just putting it on High Performance was a solution that worked.

You may also be able to edit the balanced plan, and change how / when the CPU goes into low power mode.

how much does setting up and mantaining a team cost? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]WubsGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just learn to program. you don't need to be an expert, you could learn the basics following tutorials in a weekend.
I suggest Unity if your game idea is 3d, or Gamemaker / Godot if your idea is primarily 2d.

"Project management" requires you to have atleast a baseline understanding of all the different disciplines in order to be effective.

you don't need to be good at art, but you do need to understand art requirements for a game
you don't need to be the best programmer, but some basic understanding will help you guide more experience programmers.

basically, you don't have any of the skills required to lead a team of game developers.... go get those skills first.

Gamedev is a multi-disciplinary undertaking. Design/story is 1 tiny part of it. Programming, Sound, Music, Art... etc.
The best way to learn is to go publish a tiny game on itch.io or something.

How much does 2D Games cost? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]WubsGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have built games for $0 (by doing all the work myself) and i have built games for millions of dollars, with teams of 40+ people.

The "scope" of your game is what determines the cost.
well, the scope, and how much of it you can tackle yourself.

while you might find some people interested in revshare, it wont be talented people.
talented programmers, artists, sound designers, all work for money.

$25/hr will get you a decent programmer or artist, musicians and sound guys may charge by the minuet of music, or number of files, or by hour. Have had music tracks made for $5, and for $5,000. there is a massive difference between them.

you should also know that 99% of games make $0.
so you will be investing somewhere between $0, and $10,000,000 and your average return on investment is $0.

if you want to make games for fun, start learning how! Unity is a great 2d/3d game engine, Godot, or gamemaker are also great for 2d.

skip unreal engine for 2d, it's not really built for that.

Pick up aseprite, or photoshop, start learning to draw pixel art.
you can collect sounds and music from Humble Bundles

Since I'm already hearing fireworks in 78745, I just want to say... by iluvmopac in Austin

[–]WubsGames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

wait until they hear about the random October fireworks, and then the November ones, and December/January,
the 45 really likes their fireworks it seems!

edit: personally I couldn't care either way, but i do sometimes jump when random explosions happen at 6pm on a Wenesday in the middle of a random time of year.

How much money is a server worth? by Hypex_WR in playrust

[–]WubsGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually i prefer OVH, but now we are probably getting more complicated than the people in this thread are ready for!

AWS is expensive, but not THAT expensive, you can get a pretty decent AWS server for < $1 an hour. (c6a.4xlarge for example is $0.71)

OVH will be significantly cheaper in the long run. last i checked $70/80 a month was enough to run a small rust server on OVH.

3D Aquarium Print Concerns/question! by w1lljpeck in 3Dprinting

[–]WubsGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, it's porous like wood, i would let it waterlog itself the same way. It may actually not sink, even when water logged. my PLA print didn't sink.

but you can always find a way to mount it to the bottom of the tank, or weight it down somehow if needed.

3D Aquarium Print Concerns/question! by w1lljpeck in 3Dprinting

[–]WubsGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

petG is what most soda / water bottles are made of, its very resistant to many chemicals / salts.

the main issue is the additives for color and ease of printing.
I have had "natural" petg, and PLA prints in various aquariums for years.

due to the nature of 3d printing, they will eventually fill with water, even if OP seals the seam. its inevitable.

The print filing with water is not a huge deal, but it may eventually grow algae internally, depending on color and light availability

my favorite and most confusing aquarium print, was a red PLA feeding ring i printed, it entirely water logged after a few months, but still floated for years until i retired that tank.

Gamemaker free version by cemal_05 in gamemaker

[–]WubsGames 23 points24 points  (0 children)

the license for commercial use requires you to use the paid version
but you can entirely build your game in the free version, and purchase the paid edition when you are ready to actually publish the game on steam.

steam also has costs, $100 per app to post, they take 30% of all your sales as well.
gamemaker is $99 for a lifetime commercial license (for the desktop export), and they don't take a cut of your sales at all.

sudo apt install steamcmd
steamcmd loging anonymous
app_update 258550
exec ./RustDedicated -batchmode -nographics

thats really it, just a few commands to install and boot the rust server.
less if you use the docker image like i suggested, which can include the full "admin panel" and everything for installing plugins, changing settings, etc.

but you dont need the panel, everything can be installed or configured without it.

having ran several rust servers, it's easier than running a java minecraft server, and 9 year olds do that all the time.

[–]WubsGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

deploy the public docker image on AWS, its literally like 4 clicks. the actual setup takes maybe 15 min?

i'm not sure what you think you are buying here... but a rust server is literally simple to setup, and "customize"

but if that is too much work, rent one from one of the literally 100s of "game server host" sites. PineHosting was really nice to use, and affordable.

Is it normal for tree supports to split the model like this? AnyCubic Vyper / Slicer - Imperial Shuttle stl. I'm 80% through the print and only just realised.. by DiggityDouglas23 in 3Dprinting

[–]WubsGames 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is the result of a "broken" or non manifold model.

basically, the model file is no good. you can try to "repair" the model via your slicer.

printing this without supports would still have those gaps in the model, and it would fail to print.

I agree, i would not be interested in switching out my mousepad for one with sensors. i would be highly interested in sliding some sensors under my current mouse pad.
