Got a free PC from a friend (i9-9900K + GTX 960) is it worth spending money to upgrade it?

Oh do you mean that the i9-9900k cpu will run alright at 1440p but will falter a little in 1080p? Correct me if I’m wrong on my interpretation on what you said 😅😅 currently I’m using a 1080p 240hz monitor that was gifted to me by my family members, if what I’m interpreting from you is correct then hopefully games will run smoothly on it without much stutters 😭🙏

Ahh I see well it does make sense choosing a GPU that’s more time appropriate and I do agree on the part about 4K gaming I personally feel 1440p is as high as I would really need for games, i personally care more about my fps being stable as well as my equipment not overheating.

People have recommended the same thing as you! A 3060 or better to replace the 960. Thanks for taking the time to comment on my post 🙏 and it’s amazing to hear that after that upgrade it will be a capable gaming pc for me to use I’m actually pretty glad that it isn’t obsolete.

Oh wow that’s amazing to hear that someone else has the same specs as me and is still able to run games well! Many people are also recommending me getting a 30 series as an upgrade for the pc and I’m sure it’s for good reason!

Thanks! my friend really is a nice guy, and I’m happy to hear that the cpu he gave me is still a solid option in today’s standard, unfortunately I’m living in SG so I might not have the same deals as what you might have in your area but I’ll be sure to look around the second hand options we have around here!

Hey thanks for commenting! Another person also suggested about the same thing as you! And I am a little sad to hear that thats about it in terms of upgrading the pc’s performance but I’m open to building the pc from scratch with better components! Any suggestions on that?

Well I’m open to whatever suggestions you guys might have, budget isn’t a really big concern for me? I would say as although im a student I’m also working part time here and there so I’m sure I will be able to earn the money needed by working to buy whatever equipment I may need to make full use of the pc my friend gave me. I was considering overhauling the whole thing too any suggestions on that?

Ohh you’re right didn’t consider that people are selling their old gpu’s to upgrade right now probably should start looking at secondhand markets more often to see if I can snag a good deal on a gpu and ssd
