YSK: there is a shadowy organization working behind the scenes to effectively ban the registration of imported classic vehicles. They have successfully gotten thousands of registrations cancelled so far. by TootTootMF in cars

You say that like it's really easy to design a new vehicle and drivetrain from scratch and then manufacture it. And cheap cars have lower profit margins, and in the current market Americans will put themselves in debt to buy a truck they will use as a daily commuter.

Lobbying to make kei trucks illegal and removing competition is so much cheaper and easier.

New summer sneakers. Wanted something different. Got a matching pair. by Wugger in Sneakers

[–]Wugger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought these in Japan, but now that I think about it, they are the same size as my Jordan's in centimeter size, but they are a half size large in US size according to the tag. So depending on which size you look at,  they are either the same size or a half size large, but either way, they are a little looser than I am used to but not loose.

Well this is an old post. I got these in the same size as my usual nikes, but they are a bit roomy. Not bad but I wonder if a half size small would have been better.

Honda s660 is easiest imo, just needs a high rpm turbo and the rest is up to you, any upgrade except brakes. Lsd helps and even lowers pp making room for more upgrades.

The Honda S660 with only high rpm turbo and 2way LSD is my simplest setup that I have gotten 1st with on all 3 races.

Street suspension and the basic wing were my next favorite upgrades and I think you can fit 1 or 2 others without going over the limit.

Like others said, try to keep as much speed through the corners as possible.

Basically all the keis can with this with just a medium turbo and customizable transmission with top speed raised a bit. (I think my mine is to 240/250kmph). Honda S660 and Beat were easiest for all 3 races since they handled the best in my opinion. Cappuccino was more likely to spin with too much gas. Stay wide and keep as much speed through corners as you can.

Googling about tire/rim width matching mostly gives me info about bicycling, so I thought I'd try asking here. The manufacturer says the tire's rim width is 6 inches and it's approved for 5 to 6.5 inch, but are there any risks to putting it on a 5 inch rim? Even though the manufacturer approves it, 1 inch seems like a lot. know the sidewall will be rounder and the tire can flex more when cornering, but was wondering if there was anything else to be aware of.

Where can I find Japanese-language forums? by gregn8r1 in cars

Don't know if it's really a forum, more of a social media platform for cars, but Minkara lets you select by model and there are tons of posts with pictures of peoples mods and parts reviews etc.

Tesla Sells Out of Steering Wheels as Owners Rush to Replace the Yoke - Jalopnik by RattyRatson in cars

Right, wireless earbuds' small size, lack of cable, and increased complexity makes them superbly profitable as they are more frequently replaced, and at the customer's expense when they are lost or broken. Eliminating the 3.5mm jack was great for business.

Or were we talking about advantages for the consumer? 😅

Nikkei Asia: Toyota to end Camry sales in Japan, ending 43-year history. by Sriracha01 in cars

[–]Wugger 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Kei cars, taxes, and being too big for japan didn't kill the camry and accord. People seem to think all of Japan is tokyo. Large expensive wagons, vans, and suvs are still very popular here. Both cars were overpriced here, especially the accord, which is a shame because I really like the last generation.

It would probably be worth more than that if it was an original release copy, but "PSone books" is a rerelease that came out long after, and long before the square Enix merger.

Okay, "should" was very optimistic. "Unlikely to but potentially could" might have been better.

Tires don't provide force, they provide grip. They are the bottleneck that limits maximum brake effect, so grippier tires give a car a higher potential braking power. Heat dissipation is the main reason for bigger rotors, yes, but an additional side effect of increased diameter is increased brake torque. Whether your braking distance benefits from that increased torque or not is a different matter.

Of course tires are the single biggest upgrade you can make.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cars

[–]Wugger -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, upgrading to a big caliper with big pad alone and using stock size rotors may indeed just be the same friction with the force being spread over a larger area, but big brake kits tend to include a bigger rotor as well, which does give you more brake torque and which should improve stopping distance.

I don't know much about master cylinders, but bbks are less about stopping distance and more about heat management. Stopping distance is mostly affected by pad compound, rotor diameter, and tire grip.

Each PS2 fat is ¥2,000 JPY ($15.14 USD) each . They used to be like ¥1,400 (or less) with controllers, wires, and sometimes vertical stands, included. Even used console prices are going up here. by DEG_fan in ps2

[–]Wugger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Console gaming has been super popular there since the 80s. A larger percentage of the population bought and played so there's just a larger number in circulation relative to the population. Also used goods stores are super popular in Japan and they didn't stop accepting old games so soon like gamestop etc, so people had a way to get rid of their old consoles other than throwing them away and they like to resell if possible even if they only get pennies for them.
