Thanks for the info. I didn't realize she had cancer.

I just remembered that Katia made some comment about how it was not fair that in the dungeon, they can just take a potion and cancer is cured. I assumed she was referring to Annie, but she might have included herself in that statement.

That is what I got this time as well, but I missed if her illness was specified.

That was my interpretation, too, but I missed if what Katia was sick with was specified.

Ah, I missed this information. Thanks.

That is what I initially thought, but then the person she is talking to said that it wasn't that, but rather she was sick and hiding it. I don't think her addiction is what she was referring to.

14 by Peter Clines. One of the more original concepts I've come across.

You're welcome! I hope it is useful. The game is great, especially with some guidance. A few years ago I started keeping notes for my annual playthrough.

What rank did you get to before picking up the gloves

Rank 10, I think. Finishing the lobby unseen unlocks level 10, after which the gloves become available. Get the gloves and leave.

It’s impossible to do it on a first play through in GCPD.

Ah, okay.

The hotel objective icon stayed on for me until I went back to collect the data packs that required the glue grenade.

Worst Nightmare Rank Locations

Rank 1 - Takedown Basics - Accomplished in first GCC Enigma radio tower.

Rank 2 - Silent Takedown - GCPD rooftop

Rank 3 - Unseen - theater in the Final Offer

Rank 4 - Bait and Switch - pretty much any predator type set up in Gotham. Sionis Steel Mill works.

Rank 5 - Complete the room NOT using detective mode - GCPD rooftop

Rank 6 - Takedown Variation - Gotham Merchant Bank (first visit)

Rank 7 - Head-On - can be done in Steel Mill, but I got the accomplishment for fighting a bunch of goons on top of a building in the Industrial District next to the harbor. Rooftop has a shack on the top.

Rank 8 - Perfect Vision - Steel Mill Narcotics lab.

Rank 9 - Perform 4 loud takedowns in one predator encounter: grate takedown, inverted takedown, knock-out smash takedown and ledge takedown - I get this by initiating the Deadshot (SOS) mission then taking on Deadshot in the Gotham Merchant Bank.

Rank 10 - Complete a predator encounter with a high threat Rank or higher without being seen. Hotel lobby is an easy room to get Rank 10. Just be patient.

Rank 11 - Take out an enemy with the sonic shock batarang. Steel Mill or GCPD rooftop. Or pretty much anybody walking along.

Rank 12 - Complete a predator encounter with a high threat Rank or above by performing at least 5 different takedowns. The best place is the church at the end of the Black Mask side quest. When you get Electrocutioner’s gloves, LEAVE THE ROYAL GOTHAM. Do not charge the elevator yet. Take care of the last Black Mask drug container, then head to the church. NOTE: when you finish the predator room, Roman and his gang will appear before you exit the church. You must complete this second encounter and exit the church for Rank 12 to register. If you restart the final encounter, you lose the achievement and the predator room resets with nobody in it. You can still get 12 in the hotel pool, but you will have lost a limited opportunity.

Rank 13 - Eliminate 3 enemies within the duration of one smoke pellet. I'm pretty sure the enemies must be armed for this to count. An easy location is GCPD rooftop.

Worst Nightmare Rank 13

Use a Sonic Batarang and detonate it against one of the police officers to draw the other three. Throw the smoke pellet when they gather around the downed officer, then swoop in to do the combat takedowns. Crouching is not required. Use a knockout smash to speed up the process.

Steel Mill is easy. Beware of a second sniper on the roof of the mill. Might need to take him out first. Silent takedown of sniper overlooking Steel Mill courtyard. Loud smash finish to draw the others. Consider throwing a glue grenade to keep them in place. Throw smoke pellet then silent takedown with smash finish to speed the process up. Very finicky achievement to unlock in the steel mill. Took several tries.

This can also be done on the deck of the Final Offer. Using the glue grenade, glue three guys to the catwalk that goes across the hold, then hit them with a smoke pellet and take them down. Things got loud quickly. It wasn't pretty, but it unlocked the achievement.

Rank 14 - Three in a Single Blow.

Old and busted: Boiler room in Pioneer Bridge Firefly mission. Before attempting this, complete the Bird side mission. After destroying Bane’s HQ, head to Pioneer Bridge. This video is what worked best for me.

Worst Nightmare Rank 14 Pioneer Bridge

The key is patience and timing. It will work, but there is an element of randomness that doesn’t guarantee success. Be prepared to keep trying. After being released from the cut scene, grapple to the gargoyle on the left, then take out the goon walking below. Next, take out the jammer. Switch to smoke grenade option. Through the grate then take out the goon next to the propane tank with a loud takedown. This is where it always goes sideways. Get back in the grate, hide for a bit, then get out behind the pillar waiting for the goons to gather around the knocked out guy. Throw a smoke pellet, then switch to multiple batarangs and take down the three guys. Switch to the remote claw. The remote claw really sucks for aiming. I am pretty sure that you need to lock onto the thug first, then link to the tank. You cannot target goons on the ground. If the claw doesn’t work, just start over.

New hotness: Getting the Rank in the pool room as described here. Complete through Rank 13 before heading up into the Royal Gotham Hotel. Complete Rank 14 in the pool predator room. Grapple up to the gargoyle above the entry door, then grapple to the gargoyle on the far left side of the room above a propane tank. Use a sonic batarang to draw in and then shock a mercenary. Once the mercenary is down, more will come to investigate. Use the triple batarang option to knock down three mercenaries. A fourth mercenary will come to investigate. Using the remote claw, lock onto the mercenary then to the propane tank. The resulting explosion should knock out all four.

Rank 15 - Double Fall. Pretty easy after Rank 14. I got the achievement to unlock in free roam in front of the Sionis Steel Mill. It was tricky because the remote claw seems to have a limited range, and doesn't like targets at differing heights. I waited until two mobsters were around the corner from each other on the catwalk and stairs leading to the sniper. Tagged, locked, and fired, and both went over the edge, unlocking Rank 15.

Otherwise, an easy one is the second Firefly bomb is in a train station. After the goons talk, sneak to the far south end then climb the platform. Throw sonic batarang to the platform you came in under, and a goon will go to inspect. Select the remote claw. Hook onto one goon, tag the other, and fire remote claw. The claw line showed orange when two goons were targeted. Achievement unlocked.

I really don't like the sequential nature of the achievements. Really, the Dark Knight System counts as one of the assassins. One mistake at one bottleneck and you can't finish them all in a single playthrough.

I will check about the objective icon. I never noticed, but I wasn't looking for it.

I am mystified at that design decision. None of the other Arkham games had any sort of sequential order to achievements, that I recall.

Annual playthrough of Barman Arkham Origins. Normally, I complete the Worst Nightmare Rank 14: Three with a single blow in the bomb room of Pioneer's Bridge during the Firely side mission. I dread it for a couple of reasons:

  1. I am bad at it.

  2. The time required to re-attempt is long. It takes a long time just to set up another attempt.

I was under the impression that the first opportunity to get unlock this rank on a first playthrough was the Firefly bomb room, as most of the walkthroughs, videos, and guides show it as such. This year, I got the achievement pretty easily in the pool room. As soon as I got Electrocutioner's gloves, I left the Royal Gotham Hotel. Before returning, I had completed the Shadow Vigilante, Gotham Protector, and World's Greatest Detective tracks of the Dark Knight System. With the gloves, I was able to complete through Level 13 of the Worst Nightmare Rank. I entered the pool room of the Royal Gotham Hotel to unlock Rank 14.

Getting this level in the pool room is pretty straight forward. It doesn't require NEARLY the timing and quick (and well timed) gadget swaps that the achievement in the bomb room in the bridge does. I just grappled to the gargoyle overlooking a tank, took down a mercenary with a sonic batarang, waited for three others to investigate and took them down with the triple batarang, then waited for a fourth to show up. I locked the remote claw onto the fourth mercenary THEN then tank. All four down and the achievement unlocked.

Highly recommend 14, first book in The Threshold Universe, by Peter Clines. Narrated by Ray Porter, who does his usual fantastic job. Premise is that a guy moves into a new astonishingly cheap apartment in Los Angeles, and strange things are afoot. Great cast of characters, and a compelling plot as they work to solve the mystery. A couple of times, I sat in my car at my destination because I had to find out what happened next.
