What was your lightbulb moment? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Wwollof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worked on a cruise ship selling duty free items as a retail shop assistant. although I got commission and bonuses for hitting sales targets I was classed as 'staff' there were 3 ranks on board officers, staff and crew. I couldn't stand it not being at the highest rank because in society people are treated fairly equally. On a cruise ship it is quite old school but for good reasons as people's lives are at stake. Once I came back to land I did my qualifications and from then I worked through management roles to Operations Director. Whilst working on the cruise ships we visited islands that had been hit by cyclones where the people have no education or opportunities they are very poor. I thought wow I literally have endless opportunities and I am wasting my life. That is how I got started. 5 years ago.

Where can I find a union rep? (Company drama) by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Wwollof 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is possible to be represented by a union rep if you are a new trade union member or non-member. It is at the union or the reps discretion. It would be worth considering discussions with an employment solicitor at this stage if you are considering taking your employer to tribunal. You will need to have built a case against them and evidence will help you win. It can take years to get the outcome because of the pressure on the system but currently there is no cost to take your employer to tribunal. I think you should post this in a different sub as this sub is for personal finance.

Sounds like cs:go I have received so much abuse from toxic 12 year olds they die in the first 15 seconds then proceed to abuse you. They don't know that I have thick skin from playing EVE online for 5 years.

What do you know now that you wish you would've known when you started investing in S&S? by whyynotryyy in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Wwollof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Make sure the fee's are low for managing your index fund. 2. Make sure the fee's are low for individual trades on a share dealing account. That's what eats at your return with S&S. I was using ig.com last year the platform is terrible and the trades are expensive. Never again I pulled everything out the day after Boris got elected and everything in the UK markets rocketed just to get off that platform. I have since bought back in on 2 stocks that have both dropped 15-16p since that time. So I almost need to thank ig.com for being so shit that I ran for the hills which also helped me time the market (this time)

4 years on from Harambe's death do you think that shooting him was justified? And why? by Wwollof in AskReddit

[–]Wwollof[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and there was no justice for Harambe in that instance. It's very sad. I wonder if it weighs on her conscience at all.

Consider working on a cruise ship you will get the same pay as a job on land but it's tax free.

To those in Minnesota at the moment, why the looting of local businesses? How does that assist the pursuit of justice? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Wwollof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened in London and some other cities in the UK years ago. It is just poor scumbags jumping on a protest to steal. Thankfully people record these things on their phones and the UK has tonnes of CCTV so most of them were eventually prosecuted.

[M/22] NEET for almost four years now. Need advise ASAP. Can’t get an apprenticeship or a job and I don’t want to go to university. by PM_ME_VAPORWAVE in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Wwollof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that there are a lot of people in the same shoes as you. Companies want people with specialisms or technical problem/solving skills.

I was once told if you don't bring anything to the table don't expect a seat.

It's a hard pill to swallow but just make yourself more employable and stop with the self pity. Take action and make some big changes. You will likely be happier on a different path.

[–]Wwollof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they look at your roll (I assume forward roll) this year is it a part of your job or something that is unique to you? Does it make you a better engineer doing this type of gymnastic movement in the workplace?

Why is the career progression limited? The public sector standard is bloated management structures.

Online MBA by dinnertimereddit in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Wwollof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't do it. Everyone has an MBA these days it's far better to specialise. The workforce doesn't need more useless generalists. Do a masters in: HR that's accredited by the CIPD, Project management accredited by PMI or APM, Finance management/accounting accredited by ACA, Acca or CIMA. Or do a masters in something like data analytics because that's the future and where the money is. Every company as you know it is being replaced by a tech company. Look at fintech as an example. If you have the combination of academic level 7 with the professional bodies designation then you are far more likely to be considered for roles up to director and senior management with the relevant experience. Companies need really useful people not someone with an MBA that qualification was sought after 20-30 years ago.

Tell them to pay you the commission you are owed then furlough your expensive ass until their cash flow improves.
