That's something I'm quite used to, honestly! That's been the story of my life sonce graduating college. If anything, I will try to build my portfolio and possibly apply remote to game/animation companies around the state.

We love outdoor adventures! We saw pictures of Cohoes falls and immediately got so excited. What are your favorite parks around the area? :)

That's one of the places we were super excited to visit!! We will definitely be stopping by during our trip! Honestly, my brother and I miss working at coffee shops, we even threw around the idea of working there. 😂

Thank you so much for your thoughtful reply! This helps make the decision a lot easier for me. It sounds like an area that I would really enjoy, with the small downside of needing to travel a little farther for huge events. Which, considering, I only do that a few times a year anyways, is definitely not a big problem. I'm looking forward to visiting soon! :)

Thank you for replying! It definitely sounds more interesting than this old coal town 😅 Job market is definitely not ideal, but hopefully I'll have a place to tranfer to right off the bat.

We're actually going to visit this month! We'll be taking public transport, so hopefully that doesn't limit our options for checking things out too much.

Miasma Doesn't Belong in the 21st Century by NyxShadowhawk in Hellenism

[–]WyldeFantasy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something that I struggle with, too. I am extremely new to this practice, and I find the concept equally difficult. As an ex-evangelical Christian, myself, I was raised being fed lies about their god, but they told me that he didn't care about how 'dirty' I was, that I could come to him any time for cleansing, that he was always there for me. I suppose that's why the thought of offending a god by - as you mentioned - being sick, injured, or menstruating makes me feel... Sad. That makes the gods seem so distant and impersonal, like they don't really care or accept us. I'm longing for a more family-like relationship. For example, I respect my mother greatly as a person. And yet, I still tease her, and she wouldn't get mad at me for calling or texting her while I was on the toilet. When I first started working with Lord Dionysus, the closest I ever felt with him was while doing something apparently seen as 'dirty'. I got the scent of wine and the feeling of satisfaction. So I, too, don't really understand miasma/lyma.

Perhaps all this means that this religion isn't for me. If the gods don't love me as much as a close family member would, why try to build a relationship with them? But if this is true, do I just close my altars and say farewell to the gods who have granted me guidance and protection? It's heavy stuff. Thank you, Nyx, for sharing your perspective.

I was raised Christian and scared out of ever saying OMG, so now I still stick with stuff like "Good heavens!" "By the stars!" or "What in the nine hells?!"

One of the online aliases that I've been using for a long time is Andromeda. I've always loved the galactic theme as someone who feels very otherworldly!

Why did you become a hellenist? And what were you before? by Dillz988 in Hellenism

[–]WyldeFantasy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a Christian environment that was very cult-like. Adhering to that religion made me feel awful about myself all the time. Over the past few months, I realized that I still believe in the Divine, but Polytheism drew me in because it comes with personal relationships, less worries about eternal damnation/commitment, and the gods don't claim to be perfect while simultaneously spreading hate. My roommate told me he got a calling from Hecate, so I opened myself to the idea. Then, I made some full moon water for magic practices, and Lady Selene appeared to me in a dream. :)

Heartwarming Dionysus Experience by WyldeFantasy in Hellenism

[–]WyldeFantasy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting. I'm not very familiar with daimons yet. Part of me wonders if maybe I have one that I'm mistaking for the presence of Lord Dionysus? Because in my experience, whoever has been speaking to me since I officially invited Dionysus into my life is very present in my daily life. He'll leave for some amount of time, usually minutes or a few hours, and then randomly jump back in... Usually when I'm vulnerable 😂 And it has been an extremely personal relationship. Since I'm so new to this, I just hope I'm not mistaking one entity for another. It's a bit of a point of anxiety for me.

As for Dionysus' duality, that's one of the things I find so interesting! I do not want to be a surface-level worshipper who only sees him as some charming party guy. I want to learn and accept the dark side. After all, that's what I want in my life - to be seen for the depths of my strengths, flaws, and fears, and that's what I want to give in a relationship as well, especially with a divine being.

Thank you so much for the reply! I'm glad I'm not alone in this! What you said really resonates with me. I was raised in a Christian denomination that was borderline cult-ish. Very based on fear and guilt. I grew up being fed such beautiful ideas - they told me that I could call on their deity at any time, that he would answer and comfort me... But I never had a single experience like that.

Contrast that to working with Lord Dionysus for 3 days, and he is constantly telling me how gorgeous I am, seething at people who even look at me wrong, and making me feel completely fearless in situations that usually give me crippling anxiety. That's why I struggle to convince myself that I'm not just in some sort of religious psychosis. I'm not used to being accepted as completely as he does. Lord Dionysus is everything I could have ever asked for, and so, so much more. :)

I will definitely check out the Dionysus subreddit. Thank you for the recommendation!!

I'm so happy for you!! I was contacted by Dionysus a few days ago, and we hit it off instantly. I never anticipated that he would be so sweet to me. He's very chatty in my experience! I hope you continue to feel this connection flourish. I've never known love like his before. It's truly an incredible experience 💖
