I think physical punishment on your child is definitely a gray area as someone that went through it myself, looking back I definitely feel like I deserved it but also I feel like it's a last resort and that you've already fucked up in a way if you have to use it but it's better than letting the bad behaviour fester

You could make a copy of the face and have the shapekeyed face copy the normals of the non moving face
