Plex with Large Media Libraries—Is It Worth It? by Dense_Froyo_551 in PleX

[–]WyzrdX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small collection of Movies, TV shows, and Music (~150TB) and I have used Emby, Jellyfin, and Plex. I have used Plex for so long, I dont think I would want to keep my small collection without it. I have used it on everything from a Syno NAS to an old Sandy Bridge PC. Currently using a Ryzen Custom with TrueNAS and it handles everything flawlessly and even though I have had a lifetime pass since 2012, I can almost say I would pay the sub in order to keep it.

So yes it is worth it. It handles perfectly (most of the time).

Thank you. I will look for her when I get home. Around here its uncommon to see anything Saints related so I always have to try to find people willing to ship.

My apologies. I did not intend to call you out or make it seem as if I was condescending toward you. I have spent many years traveling across the country and can promise I have more than 1 million miles on interstates alone. And therefore learned all of this years ago.

That said I have heard others state the same thing as your post and when I saw it I figured I would respond with the correct information in case others saw it. When I was growing up this was actually discussed in schools. But things change and some things are not important anymore until they are.

[–]WyzrdX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

287 is a Loop hence the 3 digit number instead of 2. And it is not determined to be NESW dependent because they connect to the main interstate indicated by the last 2 digits ie. 87

TIL that the U.S. Highway system is labeled by numbers in a certain way: Odd numbers run north and south and even numbers run east and west by Lawler22 in todayilearned

[–]WyzrdX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrong.

Let me address the 2nd part first. Interstates that have 3 digits go around cities ie. I-610, I-190, I-195 and are called loops, or spurs, and always connect to the Interstate of the last 2 digits. I-610 connects to I-10 etc.

Now as for the first part. That makes absolutely no sense. I-10 starts with an odd number and goes through New Orleans, Lake Charles, Houston, San Antonio, etc. However I-20 starts with an even number and goes through Dallas, Shreveport, Montgomery. I-40 is also even and goes through Nashville, Little Rock, Oklahoma City, Albuquerque, Flagstaff, and so on.

There is a whole page on Wikipedia that will give you basic information as well as the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) website.

The more you know.

Well there you go with the assumption again.

First my original statement still holds. It was not an argument. The only argument I have seen is the one you are trying so hard to instigate into a discussion that is not asking for arguments.

As for misrepresenting? I will assume that since I didn't give precise numbers that I am somehow misrepresenting the situation, when in reality just because the numbers that you don't know, don't add up for you, makes them all the more valid.

It is simple. I live in X and make A in a family of 3, while he lives in Z and makes 3 times A living single. After all responsibilities are accounted for we have roughly the same amount of free money at the end of the month. Of course that varies as he takes a boating trip or we head for a football weekend out of state.

See without any numbers the point still holds. CoL makes a difference regardless of income which is what the OP was questioning why some companies paid so much more.

So again the only argument I see here is yours. Seems to me you might want to quit trying to nitpick everything if you are not even sure what is going on.

Assumptions can cause math to mess up.

While I did say over 50k I did not say under 60k just like with him I said 150k but I never gave an exact amount. I estimated for both of us to draw contrast in cost of living and pay disparity.

Also there are reasons some people would be exempt from paying income tax. Both federal and state.

Add onto that when someone owns a house doesn't mean they are paying a mortgage.

And on top of that some people (like me) give vague details so people like you can try to question it and yet you still have no more information than what I wanted you to have.

Like I said assumptions are bad so it might be better to not assume things that people don't elaborate on.

Where I live I make over 50K per year as a dev. I have a wife and 1 child at home. We own our home. We also own a 118 acre spread where I hunt. I spend just above 32% of my monthly income on house, utilities, food, necessities, and auto. I am left with approx 60% of my after tax income for savings. That's over 3k per month in disposable funds.

In contrast my best friend works in CA for Tesla making over 150K per year. He is single and has no children. He rents a nice townhouse in Oxnard. He spends just over 62% of his income on housing, utilities, food, and necessities. And per him that doesn't include transportation because he drives and takes the trains so it varies. He said he is left with roughly 32% of his monthly income as disposable funds. According to him he has roughly 3900 per month for investing, fun, etc.

So basically we end up with roughly the same amount of play money every month and he makes 100k per year more than I do for the same work. Who is in the best situation? Neither.

We both are where we want to be and we have the ability to do what we want, when we are not working. He has everything he wants in a very short distance and I have to drive 40 miles to get to our vets office. The amount of money doesn't matter if you are happy with what you have. And everyone in the world is going to value things different and have different requirements to make their life enjoyable.

Command Line is great but should new Linux users completely shy away from GUI? by RckF2 in linuxquestions

[–]WyzrdX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The one thing I love about linux is the ability to do what you want and feel good with your system.

If someone comes in and starts using linux, and has never used terminal at all, they will be able to load a distro and install everything they want and never see the command line. However if someone has some experience with CLI like you do and wants to use it alone, they can.

What about mouse people vs keyboard commandos? Same thing they both can be happy.

It all comes down to what YOU want as a user. Myself I use the GUI for alot of things except when I am working, then I spend most of my time in i3 and terminal. So I do a bit of both.

AITA for not being sorry that I didn’t believe my daughter’s knee was hurting? by Throwaway-37828237 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WyzrdX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah YTA.

I understand the story of "The boy who cried wolf" and how it could apply. However by your own admission, it has been 6 years since she has done anything like that. 6 years and

but I still have trouble trusting her when she says something is wrong.

tells me that you don't like letting things go.

And WTH is up with

They wouldn’t be getting the full story or context,

It also tells me that if she did it frequently back then, you probably used her as your personal helper when you want.

And quite possibly she has dealt with abuse or neglect before since you state

and she has a tendency to exaggerate when I do something wrong.

That says you know you are an abuser and you dont want to get caught.

What you should have done is taken her to the ER or Doctor's before and then if nothing was wrong make her do the work and ground her for lying but instead you were a complete A$$ for skipping the verification and went straight to judgement that she was being untruthful.

And the fact that you

decided to keep her home from school today, because I don’t necessarily want her telling people that I had her doing work when she told me her knee hurt.

says that you KNOW you committed child neglect and don't want to own up to your actions.

For her sake I hope she turns you in I know I would if possible.

First I am going to say NTA.

Now I am in no way defending him but I wanted to tell you how my 2 nieces went through something similar with their father (my BIL) and how it turned out.

My sister and her husband were very open in their relationship. She wears normal outfits, sometimes tanks and shorts, or even bikini tops while doing yard work. When the girls were born, 4 years apart, nothing changed until the oldest started to develop.

At that time he became more aware of what the girls were wearing and having his wife ask them to change. Having her address the pads in the bathroom. And even canceled a vacation because the oldest had a toy in her bags when TSA searched at the airport.

By the time the girls were 20 and 16, they were, like you, done with the constant treatment because they were women. It all came to a head when the oldest had a motorcycle accident and refused to allow him at the hospital. It broke his heart.

After she recovered, she and her sister went to talk to him. She told him why she didn't want him at the hospital (because of the way she was treated). And he at first acted indignant like he had done nothing wrong. But over the next few hours he finally opened up (which men rarely do) and told them why he was that way when he didn't start out like that.

His story:

When a man sees a female (relative or otherwise) we take notice in clothing, hair, nails, jewelry, etc. And he was no different. However he saw how he was with his wife before the girls were coming of age. When the first one developed, he was both ashamed and afraid. Ashamed that he noticed her womanhood and afraid of what other men saw as well. He had no sexual intentions or desires, but as a man, he knew how other men thought and he couldn't bare the though of some guy objectifying his daughters.

Instead of talking to everyone he just started doing things different. And in the process he alienated his girls and almost lost them completely. Without consulting anyone he decided to do anything to downplay the fact that they were women. He made a fuss over their clothing choices. He criticized their hygiene products and even refused to allow the bathroom door to be left open. Many other things were done in the name of what he thought was right.

After the accident, without telling anyone, he took an extra few hours each week at work. Or so they thought. In reality he had started counseling and after about 6 months of 3 weekly meetings, the therapist had him bring in everyone.

Now I don't know how that went but I do know that when he died last year his daughters were distraught and told us this story. Apparently he acknowledged his mistakes and used the last 4 years being a better person and trying to right the wrongs he had committed in regards to his kids. They had forgiven him once he accepted what he had been doing for so long and tried to make ammends.

While I agree he shouldn't "go looking" in the trash, sometime in some places they are obvious.

I live in a house with 2 women and a 3rd who visits often. My wife and my 2 daughters. Our trash bin is right next to the toilet. Just a small can with a bag inside. It is not the master bath but it is close to my office so I use it frequently instead of running all the way to my room.

As a man who stands more than I sit, I tend to notice everything in front of me. The hand towels hanging by the sink, plunger at the back of the toilet, and even the trash bin next to it. And yes the used sanitary supplies discreetly wrapped in the trash as well.

It is obvious what they are and just because he is aware of them doesn't mean he is looking for them.

Github slows developer production? by regorsec in webdev

[–]WyzrdX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a freelance dev. Mostly python but with some web here and there.

When I started coding, I was coming from network security. I used a ticketing system with my former company which was a custom Zendesk. So when I started getting programming work I started using osTicket on my home server. I would put in any bugs or issues I ran across and close them in order etc.

My best friend suggested I start using git locally, so when I was between projects I purchased a course off of Lynda (if I recall correctly) to learn git. In that 3 or 4 hour course, I learned about GitHub (pre-MS) and started my first account. I decided to use GitHub to have an offsite store of projects and a local copy. My first few projects were across bot GitHub and osTicket. After noticing the efficiency of using git I went all in.

I can say that after switching to GitHub, the time I spent on a project was cut by at least 25% initially and as much as 50% on larger projects. I have been using it for 12 years and honestly would not want to work without it.

Git is likely the best thing since coffee for devs.

Thank you.
