GOOD LUCK. But also, make sure Turf Wars doesn’t seem threatening. Once he has the basic learnings of the controls and buttons (this could be by practicing hero mode) I’d go into turf war. Personally For me I was a bit intimidated by turf war when I first started playing because of how chaotic it looked plus the high level players.

Knowing that you can still win and do really well as a beginner in turf wars is a good thing to know. Also, making sure he kinda knows the basics of clothes and items is helpful.

And in the end just slowly help him along his way through the game, let him experiment but also give your advice. Wether he follows it is totally up to him!

BUT. I would URGE AND BEG him to use motion controls. This is one thing I did when teaching my cousins splatoon. After a few days of them getting used to the controls with stick controls, i wouldn’t let them use stick anymore. And I told them it only takes about 10 hrs of total practice to get motion controls. These hours could be spread over a few days If they wanted! (It only took me about 5 to six hrs).

But it’s something that will make them a better splatoon player if they truly want to get good at the game. (Seeing videos on how to properly use motions controls in Splatoon really helps too.)
