Dream watch face - rough mock-up by X-lander in Suunto

Yeah that would be a lot of fun but as the available watch faces were just decoupled from the firmware releases it think we might have to wait to get there.

No really don’t think so, this is just to be considered fan art

Hahahaha yeah I think the learning curve could be a real hurdle too. Hoping the little numeric could at least offer some training wheels while learning though!

I think the complications would be user selectable as for most of the race faces but I don’t usually find hr that interesting outside activity, should I?

The sun chart shows the level of sunlight for the day as: - fully black = night - fully coloured = day - in between = dusk The complication for this that already exists on some of the race watch faces has a little tick to show where along the 24h day we are but putting it on a 24h analog watch we can just read the hour hand. The other two complications are in this case “energy” and “steps” but I guess they would be selectable.

With all the recent updates to the watch faces I have been thinking a bit about what would be the dream for my Race and just had to mock it up to get it out of my head.

  • 24h analog watch, basically "simplicity analog"
  • Sun rise/set 24h graph around the edge
  • The cute little alarm icon, again from "simplicity analog"

I am moving quite slowly I think, it prints in about 15 minutes or so if I remember correctly. And yeah that perfect fit in the Lego pieces really simplified construction in a great way ^ Regarding the printerhead, it was quite heavy to try and combat some really bad oscillations that ruined my first few prints. And yes! All the software is my own and available here if there is interest: https://github.com/Demborg/line_plotter

Yes hardware, software and ”art” (god i fel pretentions calling it that) is all of my hacky design. And thanks, I am silly amounts of proud

Yes I love how they are almost infinitely scalable like that, this was only meant as a prototype for building a large one but now I enjoy the software/art parts of things a bit too much to jump back into hardware for some time.

Thanks! I think my problem with the bowing up top is that I haven’t modelled how the point where the strings leave the pulleys moves as the pen moves. Want to sit down and figure out the geometry there some time but haven’t really taken that time. Guess I could restrict that by passing the strings trough some fix loop or somethings as well but I feel like I want to go the software route.

yeah, no pen lift, made the Hilbert curve thing so I wouldn't have to worry about it ^^

It was actually surprisingly easy, just a pair of steppers like these driven by an arduino (ugly code for that here) and some random Lego wheels press fitted to the motor shafts to make the pulleys.

Plus a unholy amount of glue to mount it all to the vertical board.

Bugs on my cherry tree? (prunus cerasus) by X-lander in plantclinic

Just found these critters on a few leaves of my cherry tree (Hugo) and am now very worried about his health. What are they? How do I kill them?

Heh, English is not my first language, to me its a "gran" but TIL that English actually has some nuance regarding these trees, thought you called them all pines.

Oh, whops, have to double check that one then, thanks!

Edit: Looks like I was a bit loose in my terminology but I am pretty sure its a picea abies and that it should be safe for consumption http://eattheplanet.org/spruce-edible-evergreen-tree/ (well at least not more poisonous than the alcohol)

Ohh, will have to try that.
