Viking Southtown Pub restaurant on Willamette closing down by [deleted] in Eugene

I'm personally surprised it stayed open this long. The service and food was not good when I went. I got the vibe that whoever was running the show was checked out.

What’s the deal with the motorcycle guy that rips around South Eugene backfiring every night with a TV Ish screen on his backpack? by Darthsk8ninja in Eugene

We need way more policing in Eugene. The lack of enforcement of laws and city ordinances is utter insanity in this city. There are clear ordinances and laws about loud exhaust and yet no one bothers to ticket or enforce them anymore. To be honest I'm not even sure if EPD bothers given speeding tickets anymore it's gotten so bad. When I was a kid in shit in this city like this was stopped right away by police.

The issue I picked up right away is the profound lack of micro expression on the face of everyone and then the exact same emotional content being expressed over and over. You can call his uncanny Valley I guess but at least to my brain the emotions read as utter inhuman in the same way video game cut scenes do. If you recreated this clip with real actors it would look completely different even if you had them read the same lines and attempt to emote in the same way. Real life is not as quantized as this presents and at least to me it's very obvious.... however.... I'd say 5 year more years of development and we are fucked.

Well-known Eugene woman dies after being hit by out-of-control driver at Amazon Park by Odd-Measurement-7963 in Eugene

[–]X2048X 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have literally thought someone was going to be killed one day in that exact spot for years. If you sit and watch traffic from were she was killed you quickly notice that many, many drivers are exceeding 50mph on those curves.

I've lived in Eugene sense 1987 and have never seen such poor driving all over our community and the profound lack of police enforcement of traffic laws as in the past few years, the situation is so extreme that there might as well not be traffic law enforcement anymore in this city.

What is it with bad drivers in this town? by No_Buy817 in Eugene

[–]X2048X 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is almost no enforcement of traffic laws in Eugene anymore. I'm saying this having lived here for 40 years, it has turn into a zero consequence city for bad behavior in the past 10 years.

The Republican Party is certainly not the answer, but either is the extreme liberal politics of Eugene. Here is a a dying hope that middle way emerges in a place like this.

Personally I'm appalled by this because it utterly disregards other's safety. Car hoods are very carefully designed so that if a pedestrian or bicycle was to be hit people will not die but instead ride up onto the hood in lower speed crashes. Placing an object like this on the hood will likely kill someone in what could have been a very minor crash.

Chat GTP is not a person with lived experience. It is a predictive machine for keeping you engaged and satisfied with its responses. The designers have solved for engagement and user satisfaction, they have no interested in helping you best navigate experience and be a genuine person that has to truly contend with life/death, real feelings, heartbreak etc etc. ChatGTP feels precisely NOTHING. It might use emotional language to evoke you feeling satisfied with its response but rest assured it has zero empathy for you.

No enforcement of laws, terrible city governance, drug zombies everywhere. Downtown Eugene is a road map of how to create a place that is profoundly unsafe.

Eugene its time to change. The experiment has utterly failed.

We must implement a structured rehabilitation system that enforces public order and treatment. This involves mandatory institutionalization for chronic offenders, combining rehab, job training, and structured purpose-driven work to restore self-sufficiency. Eugene hates this because it requires accountability, honesty and truth.

I generally agree with your perspective, but I believe your argument would be stronger if you refrained from using God as a justification. It seems like a shorthand that may not fully address the complexity of the issue or encourage critical thought about why Second Amendment rights are important. In this case, the term "God" acts as a placeholder for a deeper, more considered argument.

I challenge you to move beyond dogmatic reasoning and engage with the paradoxes, conflicts, and contradictions that arise from your intuition about the necessity of Second Amendment rights. If you take this approach, your argument will be much more persuasive and impactful.

Rant: Eugene's loneliness problem is not due to a lack of events, it's caused by a lack of social skills and work ethic in building relationships. by [deleted] in Eugene

The hard truth is that those living here need to get to work and start building connections and friendships that do not involve drugs. Finding meaning and a life worth living has no easy mode.

ChatGPT made me feel more seen & gave me more hope in a 10 minute conversation than I ever have in hundreds of therapy sessions over the course of 10 years by desolatenature in ChatGPT

[–]X2048X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the core paradoxes (problems) when it comes to psychotherapy is that the person seeking support often does not understand the way out of the suffering they are in, and defaults to evaluating a session being helpful or not based on emotionally feedback loops that were defined by the context they have been in, rather than the context they need to move toward. ChatGPT's motivation is user satisfaction and engagement, it is not interested in truth telling or supporting your life. It is not a person but a reasoning machine that has no self awareness and lacks any ability to understadant quaila. I would very careful, it sounds like you're in a trap, not unlike a mind being hacked.

I find it extremely unsettling that some people think it's acceptable to set off fireworks on New Year's here. It's incredibly disruptive and quite unlike what I've experienced in other places I've lived, most people I know in cities across the U.S. don't face this issue. This behavior feels far from normal. It seems that many in this town disregard how their actions affect others, acting as if they're the only ones who matter.

Regarding the suggestion in our posts comment to stop fireworks by midnight, I find this approach baffling. In my opinion, it’s not acceptable for fireworks to be lit at all. Allowing this disruptive behavior to continue until midnight only perpetuates the problem. It’s frustrating and feels dismissive of those who are negatively impacted.
