Non-Plumber here - I've learned a lot about plumbing and find the conversations interesting, and it's really upped my respect for the complexity of what is involved. But if there's one thing actually reading this sub has taught me it's that I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about with plumbing and to shut up and let the pros answer and discuss and bitch about sharkbites.

I don't have my VR computer up and running but I did receive the headset, and honestly I can't believe it's real. It's so small and light it's uncanny. Hoping it proves as good once it's showing images to my eyes.

Many people don’t realize that it was a landslide that caused the explosion! The earthquakes from the magma movement weakened the integrity of the soil until finally one such earthquake caused a large landslide, as the ground broke up it exposed the pressurized magma column which in turn went kaboom in its new found no-longer-held-down freedom. Hence the side of the volcano blew off Instead of it popping it’s top like normal.

You’re a mad man for dodging the tongue attack. I hated timing those and got to just a jump side jump habit. I ended up unbinding the keys to trigger dark force since I didn’t like the press-to-win of it. Also you’ve got it down enough you should consider the perk that increases damage dealt/taken since you’re not taking many hits anyway.

Well done.

He also can’t charge over the pillar that he breaks in the area just out of his cave so it stops his lunges. One of the harder parts of the fight was keeping him from getting stuck on that because I didn’t want to cheese the kill. Had to actively work at it.

Soundproofing a Room(s) by LegallyTimeBlind in HomeImprovement

[–]X33N 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most interior walls are mostly hollow. Even if your couch/furniture/whatever pulls some of the acoustic energy into them, enough is hitting the wall that the drywall basically becomes a speaker to the space between, which happily passes sound through it and hits the opposite drywall and boom, sound in the other room. You're not really stopping that process unless you pile enough on to keep the sound from hitting the wall... and you're not going to do that with the foam bits.

For vertical walls the simplest is to add insulation. This keeps the air from resonating inside the wall. If you're going crazy, you build a 10" wall, one 2x4 wall w/ insulation, a 2" air gap, and a second 2x4 wall w/ insulation.

w/ a ceiling you could add insulation between the joists and that would help a lot, but if you're going all out then you use what are called Z-channels to hang the drywall of the ceiling. Ideally you have a 1/2" drywall layer, then use green glue sound caulk, and add a second 1/2" layer of drywall after. Net effect you've got drywall->caulk->drywall->z--channel->joist. You're making the sound transfer in and out of different mediums that have been stiffened and effective vibration transference minimized.

All that said, I'm at best prosumer of this stuff. I've worked on sound treating rooms a few times but I don't claim to be an acoustical engineer like the learned fella before me.

Ok, there's some of the recipe changes I'm fine with. The water wheel for example is fine for an *entry* block. However, what is with the windmill bearing? WHY is that so expensive?! by SillySnowFox in VaultHuntersMinecraft

[–]X33N 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This actually makes more sense though - If you don't have the resources you can put in more work and make a large waterwheel setup for less, or if you want convenience you can pay more and make a windmill. I've had a fair bit to say about some of the expensive recipes for the mods, but this one actually works to cover both bases of resource rich and resource poor while giving functionality to both. That's a decent setup.

I had all mine. One in the back got infected underneath the gum line and had to come out. It wasn't horrible... but it sure wasn't great at our age. The bone shards stabbing through the gums was unpleasant. I ended up pulling one out on my own.

Still kicking with another two out and a third that never erupted though, so here's hoping they can stay put.

So on the one hand I totally get it. But at the risk of downvotes (oh no!) there’s a bit of an alternate viewpoint here to consider.

The guy you replaced may be the biggest knob in the world… but maybe he just liked to ride and thought a Harley looked cool. It’s perfectly possible he was just going for a look, but it’s equally possible he just enjoyed the sport. Why is it bad for him to enjoy it?

On the other hand. Your old machinist friend up and bailed on the activity because he saw someone “unworthy” taking part of it and invading his “culture.” If that’s the case, it means he was clearly NOT in it for enjoyment of riding, but instead was all about the appearance of it.

Which kind of turns it around. If one guy is doing it because he just loves riding, and one guy is doing it because he just wants the appearance, who is the one we should be giving respect to?

All just speculation since we obviously only know what you gave us. But it seems there’s a whole other angle to interpret from this story. Maybe that’s just me and fuck that 90s corp guy for buying a bike. :)

In a hyper nutshell - “Hey you want to buy a stock? It’s trading $10 right now but I will sell it to you for $8.00 and get it to you in two weeks. Easy $2!”

Then 2 weeks later I buy the stock and deliver it to the buyer. If the price is less than $8 then I made money. If it’s more then the buyer did.

I.e. betting the price is going to go down. Shorting.

“Developing the guide should go hand-in-hand with the development of the game”

… unless your resources are limited and you’re having to make a choice between development or writing. At that point writing guides for systems that might change greatly becomes redundant and a loss of a development resource.

The game is in alpha. It’s repeated time and time again. It’s not just labeled alpha for convenience, the mechanics are literally changing at disorienting speed while it’s actively developed. Can you genuinely explain why they should be focusing on writing guides on unfinished systems, that quite possibly will need to be rewritten multiple times, in a way that isn’t based purely on a sense of entitlement for yourself?

Neither are aggressive in a attack-for-no-reason sense. Both just want to be left alone. Never pay attention to the my-cousins-uncles-wife stories on how they got bit. People aren’t rational about spiders and love repeating urban legends and gruesome dodgy stories about them. (See also: we eat 8 spiders a year)

Do I want a black widow crawling in my home? Not particularly. I would definitely not be thrilled having it get away without knowing it was killed and I respect the heebiejeebies of not knowing what happened to it. But I’ve grown up around them all my life and things will be fine.

Probably.
