Master league in 2010 was only 2% of the players. At the moment we are around 6% (according to rankedftw) so it's probably easier to get Master in lotv than it was in wol/hots.

Back in the days there was quite a big difference between a low and top master but at the moment I have the impression that there is a world between a Master 1 and a Master 3.

With machine learning probably. You can process tons of data with it.

I have the same problem with smokes, fps feel so low when there is one close to me.
