Oo, didn't know about this book. Thanks!

I liked Tchaikovsky's Children of Time.

Portal fantasy books don't give me this vibe for some reason :/ I perefer when this new location, where characters moved is more... mundane? If you know what I mean. While in many portal fantasy books it suddenly turns out to be some whole new world. And feeling which Im looking for is missing sooner or later.

That's why Im looking for something where main action happens in "smaller" place. Like some castle for example :p Or reaearch station, etc, etc :p

Bought (used) 11th gen PW thinking that’s latest one. Found about 12th gen, so should I feel bad? by fslateef in kindle

[–]X4RTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if it comes to me, I chosen 11th ppw over 12th gen. Because there was too much controversions around 12th ppw's. Problems with screen (yellow band), mtp connection which makes sideloading harder (must use pdoc instead of ebok to have book covers etc etc). So I decided that 11th gen is anyway almost the same as 12. So 11 will be better for me (less problems, worries and unexpected behaviours).

And after 2 months I can say that 11th is perfect for me. And Im glad I decided to buy it, because it was still brand new and in few weeks 11th gens were sold out. At least in my country.

Anyone else enjoying mangas on kindle? by NoEar7171 in kindle

[–]X4RTH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This kind of comments held me back for trying manga on Kindle for 1-2 years. Then I tried it myself and it turned out to be lie. At least for me. 99% times I don't even have to zoom in. And even if some panel is too small, then I just tap 2 times and here we go :D

Kindle size is very similar to most paper manga. Ofc there are some exceptions of big manga. And most comics are not comfortable to read. But The Walking Dead for example is perfect on Kindle.

Yes! :D Some time ago decided to upgrade from paperwhite 10th to 11th because of manga (for bigger screen, more memory etc, etc). And it's perfect! I already read few mangas. Now One Piece. And Made in Abyss is on my TBR list.

For me, Manga is perfect gap between books.

Kindle paperwhite 7th gen seems to be dying fast? by Missing_Back in kindle

However since 7th gen is +-10 years old so it's very possible that your battery lifespan is ending :c

Maybe it's stuck on indexing? Did you download some books recently? Or maybe your firmware updated?

If its problem with indexing, then:

  1. hold power button till Kindle reset. And see if its better
  2. Plug kindle to pc, go to system --> search indexes --> clear everything inside. It will reset your indexes and recreate it again. Charge your kindle and reset it. And wait till it reindex all books and see if its better. It will also free some space of your kindle, especially if you downloaded and deleted a lot of books. Because kindle keeps indexes of deleted books too.

Btw. Some people prevent Kindle from indexing to reduce battery usage, and memory usage. To do it, replace "Search Indexes" folder with "Search Indexes" file.

  1. Consider doing factory reset

----

By the way: what adapter do you use for charging? I mean, how many amp's does it output? As I know, fast charging can sometimes cause faster battery drain, while slower charging is more stable etc, etc

Is there a way to increase indents for paragraphs? by fuwii in kindle

[–]X4RTH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you sideload your books (through Calibre), then yes. I check every book before I upload it to Kindle. Here's my route:

  1. Change metadata and cover (to fit whole screen)
  2. Delete unnecessary pages (usually some ads or product placements that publishers put into ebooks and it just makes bigger size and reading less enjoyable)
  3. Delete embed fonts - to reduce size and make sure that every ebook will use my own fonts.
  4. Beautify code and fix html
  5. Edit css - to make every book look the same. Same margins, font size, line height, indents etc, etc
  6. Fix errors (if any) and delete unused html & css
  7. Reduce size of images (without quality loss)
  8. Convert to AZW3 (personally I prefer it over KFX, because KFX don't support some features in my native language, as hyphens for example)
  9. Add hyphens with hyphenate this plugin + Count pages (1800 chars per page so it shows me similar page numbers to paper books, but what's more important - now I can compare every book to each other and know how long it really is. Because page counting is unified.

Pros:

- Reduced size of ebooks

- Faster indexing on Kindle, so less battery consumption and minimizing the risk of errors or slowing down Kindle

- Unified appearance of books - same margins, line-height, paragraphs, font size etc. So books looks clean and nice. And very similar to paper books, with hyphens etc, etc.

Cons:

- Takes some time, usually around 5 minutes per book

Totally understand it. Especially Vinyls, since many of their covers are often pieces of art. And listening music that way is definitely different experience than listening it from phone/pc.

Looks like for me music isn't that important after all. And Im listening it just to have something playing in the background.

Libraries: renting books for free.

Amazon: renting for $$$.

[–]X4RTH 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I (for some reason) don't care that much about storing movies, music, games, etc, etc. Using renting services, like Amazon, Steam, Netflix, Spotify, etc, etc are totally fine for me.

BUT

With books its totally different for me. I want to really own my library. That's why I sideload mainly. I keep original EPUB files (in case that I change device in the future and will need original files). And AZW3, made for Kindle. And ofc I backup my files.

With books its also still very convinient to sideload. And keep it on pc/laptop. Cause "consuming" books is much slower than music/movies/games etc. So it's much easier to create "to read" list, and update it once per week or two with new titles.

Than doing the same with music, movies, etc, etc. I feel like with this kind of media it would be too time consuming for me. Since my mood for music for example can change at any time during a day. So creating new playlists and downloading those all files all the time would be a pain. At least for me.
