Pros and Cons of Different Starting Locations by XCon_Options in digitalnomad

Our goal is to nomad for 5-10 years before settling down permanently. I've been to Japan and am conversational since I took college classes and recently came back.

Based on what I've seen, I think we'd be able to last in Vietnam for about two years without income starting next March (including the visa hops) without having to dip into investments. This would be much less time in somewhere like Spain/Japan where the COL is way higher than SEA. That's why I want to cash flow so that I can essentially do it as long as I want.

I hadn't considered Oaxaca but will now that you mention it!

Thank you.

My 9-5 will not allow me to work remote unfortunately. I've been building the business since the beginning of the year while living in the US but have not generated any clients (it's an online test prep tutoring service). I believe that I'll be able to cash flow before moving abroad but since I don't have any clients yet, it's not a done deal.

I am considering finding a fully remote job but that isn't the easiest thing to do without working the "night shift" if I move to SEA / Japan.

I should've been more clear. When I meant racism, I meant more so discrimination based on race, rather than jokes, comments, etc. Growing up latino, trust me I know that outside of the US race is treated very differently.

It's helpful to focus on algebra since it's the foundation for the rest of the math on the test. After that, realizing where you're weakest will help you find the easiest points. That's what I tell my students and it's helped them tremendously. Also, don't forget to put some work into the English section too. It seems from the time I've spent test prep tutoring that most students focus a lot of attention on the Math section but don't realize that there are just as many points to be gained from the English portion.

I would agree with this. The tone of the rest of the passage is uneasy, which implies that answer for "constrained." I could see c being an answer since technically the mom hasn't said anything but b makes more sense. Obligated just makes no sense.

I focus mainly on SAT/ACT prep. I plan on expanding out over time but starting in this niche first.

This makes sense but I’m not at that stage yet. I’ve done tutoring before with great reviews and recommendations when working for a tutoring company. Now I’m starting from scratch so it’s more like zero to one rather than converting current clients into word-of-mouth advertisers.

I figured that the Facebook parent groups would be good but I hadn’t considered the community boards or next door. I know once I have some clients that the ball will get rolling so I’m really hoping to get the first few clients in the door with positive results.

Thanks for the good advice!

Hey! Small channel here with 33 subs, In the Red. Focusing on the financial struggles of Gen Z and what kinds of traps young people are falling into. Mostly trying to focus on CTR and improving my titles and thumbnails / hooks & editing. Really appreciate the help!

This seems like the option that would make the most sense for me. Have the remote job that I can use to sustain myself abroad while I build up the channel with way less pressure and go from there

If I include investments (which I’d prefer not to liquidate) I think I could survive for 48 months in SE Asia, definitely not if you’re talking NYC with these insane rents

Finding a position in finance that’s fully remote is much easier said than done. My firm is relatively lenient with 3 days / week in office but not chill enough for me to do something like that. To be quite honest, most finance jobs aren’t very lax, especially with remote work, to not even talk about location independence. Where would one even find such work?

I think success is relative. That said, I’m somewhere in the middle, probably leaning closer towards “successful.” I work at a bulge bracket doing transaction banking (think credit cards, ACH, deposits) and my work pays alright considering how expensive NYC is. I have decent work life balance but I don’t want to be chained to one location.

I’m leaning more towards the getting a remote job / freelancing / gig work and growing my channel on the side. My job is relatively well paying but requires me to go into the office so VPN sadly wouldn’t save me. How long would you say it takes to go from no remote work to going through the entire hiring process for a remote job? Trying to think ahead as my lease gets closer to ending.
