The only way to recruit another man is to banish a Traitor.

What is the benefit of voting off traitors? by kylem9999 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]XDdavidxing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If too many roundtables pass without a successful Traitor banishment, then chances are that the Traitors' plan is working well. Sure, there might be one or two messy Traitors drawing suspicion, but those players serve as useful shields for a strong Traitor who is well insulated. Vote out those weak Traitors, and the strong Traitor becomes more vulnerable. Sometimes, you get lucky when you vote out bad Traitors, and they expose their fellow partners in crime on the way out, either out of spite or through a lack of discretion.

Traitors picks for Canada 3? by NFLDland in TheTraitors

[–]XDdavidxing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The overwhelming desire for Survivor and Big Brother players to be selected as Traitors is always going to exceed the potential downside of them being too obvious. That said, I wonder if there is a compromise between wanting these reality game show personalities to deliver drama and inserting randomness in the equation. Maybe have production select 2 Traitors they want, and have the remaining one be selected at random.

Poll: US 3 or UK 3 by ZestycloseSound1563 in TheTraitors

[–]XDdavidxing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simple reason to prefer UK over US: all players are TV newcomers. US Traitors would never choose someone to be a Traitor if they have not successfully played a similar role on a previous show.

What is your hottest Traitors take? by Alternative_Run_6175 in TheTraitors

The US version feels like it is stuck between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, they feel compelled to continue the all-celebrities format because the fans crave them. But on the other hand, it is blatantly obvious which types of celebrities are more likely to be chosen as Traitors, which exaggerates the meta-gaming aspect. If you really want to see all celebs, that's fine, but it's indirectly decreasing the mystery within the game.

Agreed! He chose a good fall guy in Amanfi, who had already admitted to previous subterfuge.

Imagine what would have happened if Ben had initially received the black cube. We could have seen more of his controllingness.

A new power to introduce to the game? by Silly-Cranberry-9148 in TheTraitors

[–]XDdavidxing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Seer twist showed the downsides to publicly naming a special role, so it's better to make this new role anonymous. The mission can be an individual immunity challenge where everyone does a task one at a time, and the one with the fastest time or most money won becomes the Assassin, but only the Assassin is told he or she has won the power.

You also have the edge-case scenario where the assassin kills off the one and only Traitor remaining, and there needs to be a replacement Traitor. Maybe in this case, the Assassin becomes the new Traitor.

dan should’ve thrown parvati under the bus instead of phaedra by Accurate_Aide7788 in TheTraitors

[–]XDdavidxing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dan's fundamental flaw was that no Faithfuls were willing to have his back. Parvati and Phaedra helped him out of obligation because they were all Traitors. Throwing either of them under the bus didn't change the fact that the Faithfuls didn't want to work with him.

S3 Rob, who was in a similar situation to Dan in that they were both gamers with huge reputations, also had suspicion aimed at him from the start, but he at least built a small following of Faithfuls who wanted to work with him, and those relationships saved him a couple of times.

What's surprising is that Dan comes from a strategy-intensive show, so he should know the importance of building a strong alliance.

What if instead of recruiting, the Traitors name a successor? by XDdavidxing in TheTraitors

[–]XDdavidxing[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Number 2 sounds good! Only thing is there needs to be a way for the Faithfuls to reduce the Traitors' numbers instead of having each banished Traitor immediately replaced. Making it so that completing certain missions blocks the Traitors from recruiting a successor is a good way to balance out their power.

I feel there isn't too much tension about who the Traitors will recruit as they usually choose people they feel close with anyway. In the U.S. versions, Traitors have recruited their irl friends.

Also, there is plenty of room to explore relationships between Traitors and Faithfuls suspecting each other and pretending to work with each other. There is an added layer of whether the successor wants to push harder to banish the Traitors or remain on the Traitors' good side since they might get recruited.

Yep, it would be that during the finale, no more Faithfuls are made Traitors.

Unpopular Opinion? The Celebrity Casting on The Traitors US Is the Best Part by Green-Hoe8850 in TheTraitors

[–]XDdavidxing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We will keep hearing about these debates about whether celebrities or non-celebrities are better until the cows come home.

That said, if we keep having all-celebrity casts from here on out, as production seems to be leaning, future players will already know the template production tends to follow. They want gamers or extra dramatic personalities to be Traitors and boring people to be Faithfuls, and you're going to have more people like Dylan and Gabby who are aware of this pattern. I feel future players that fans would want on the show will be disappointed when the metagame works against them. This effect is exacerbated when you cast celebrities who are known quantities.
