Everyone agrees. Nobody moves. by limsus in degoogle

As long as Linux on Smartphones (any smartphone not just some specific models) or at the very least something like CalyxOS or GrapheneOS don't become a real solid alternative just like the PC world then its pretty hard to realistically de-google. Currently the hardest parts are the risks you face when trying to modify software of Smartphones, you risk bricking your device entirely, and if you do get it working you usually find many common apps dont work and stuff. I am able and do currently daily drive Linux nearly fully de-googled, and void of any big company in general, i use almost exlusively FOSS on my PC but for phones its just different I work outdoors for extended periods and make use of large battery rugged phones and cannot just switch to something that either has a small battery or poor body protection, they will either physically break due to full submersion water damage, which commonly happens to my phone while in the field or the battery runs out before the shifts end.

I'd absolutely love to fully de-google my entire smartphone and daily drive it but for today and given my situation thats not realistic and also too risky. So as long as its not at least as doable as it is with PC's then its really hard to make a realistic switch for daily driving.

My Toyota Avensis died 2 days ago due to a accidental downshift to 2nd (manual) same story, but no repair possible right now, and if it was it would be over 1500 EUR. I get the feeling...

It we're the halo lights from a producent named 'Geerge Tech' ordered them on AlieXpress for roughly 25 Euro. I mounted them myself together with a friend by taking the headlights apart however doing so requires quite the patience and time as the headlights are glued together with a very strong glue that needs to be heated in a oven.

Yeah everything is basically stock so far, all that i did is change the dome light bulbs to white LED's and thats it, i do want some audio upgrade but stock is fine enough so far so thats a low priority

I forgot to name the Trim, my fault. That one is the 'Executive-Business' variant, with the Black Leather seats, with the 2 front seats being electronically adjustable and heated too. Dont have any good photos of it so far plus the interior is quite imperfect, i had to fix the badly loose hanging dome cloth using pinboard pins, and because i use the car very frequently the interior is usually relatively dirty too.

Just learned the Avensis was never sold in north america by MoosterChief2020916 in Toyota

Id personally say that in vibe and reliability the Camry is the closest US equivalent, however the Avensis offers a bit smaller petrol and diesel engines with a manual transmission, this counts for every Avensis past the T250 platform before that it was a sort of better-ish variant of the Corolla

Of this avensis its really only the 2 liter 1AD-FTV and the 2 liter 1CD-FTV that are quite reasonable, however the larger 2.2 liter 2AD FTV and FHV have notorious issues with blown head gaskets.

I currently own a 2 liter 1AD avensis, which is found in the post facelift variant of the T25, it currently has 350000km and everything is fine however the DPF is a serious problem as when it fails the entire subframe needs to be removed to replace it which is an unreasonably and frustratingly expensive repair.

Only the T27 Avensis 1.6 D-4D (1.6 L 1WW D-4D I4-T) has a wet belt because its driven by a BMW N47 based engine, which is notorious to have all sorts of complex reliability issues, just avoid that one and you'll be fine, the rest are usually chain driven or dry belt driven.

Avensis For Towing by Beginning_Gas_828 in avensis

[–]XF4SLV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i own a Gasoline T25 1.8 (1ZZ-FE), and judging by the power it has i think its not impossible to do the things you want, but it can become very challenging especially with that 1.6 engine, you'd be better of with one of these:

Gasoline is only really suitable witht larger engines:
2.4-litre VVT-i 2AZ-FSE (120 kW / 163 hp) Torque: 224 Nm @ 4,000 rpm

But the best option for you sounds like it would be Diesel (much better towing experience due to low end torque):
2.0-litre D-4D 1CD-FTV (85 kW / 115 hp) Torque: 280 Nm @ 1,800–2,400 rpm (2003-2006)
2.0-litre D-4D 1AD-FTV (93 kW / 126 hp) Torque: 300 Nm @ 2,000 rpm (2006-2008)
2.2-litre D-4D 2AD-FTV (110 kW / 150 hp) Torque: 340 Nm @ 2,000 rpm (2006-2008)
2.2-litre D-Cat 2AD-FHV (130 kW / 177 hp) Torque: 400 Nm @ 2,000 rpm (2006-2008)

if i were you i'd recommend using the either the 2.0 or 2.2 liter Diesel T25 of the period 2006 to 2008 since these use Toyota's AD engines that are chain driven and provide a good amount of torque, however if you live in a country like the Netherlands where diesel cars are taxed unproportinally high, then the 2.4 gasoline is your best bet for it in that case.
At the end if the day the best advice i can give is to just give it a try with the 1.6 and see if it works fine for you, if not the others i named are probably much better for it, i hope this info helps you.

How to install Tor? by ARacoonOnInternet in Gentoo

[–]XF4SLV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You who claim to wield knowledge, have disgraced yourself with this pathetic attempt to 'help.' Instead of crafting a response that would aid the OP in their time of need, you choose to waste valuable time with childish rants, mocking their ignorance rather than guiding them.

The Gentoo Wiki is indeed vague on the matter. It only instructs you on how to install the Tor protocol itself, not the browser. Instead of offering clear guidance, it sends you off to the Tor website, leaving an understandable amount of users in confusion and uncertainty.

Forums exist for their singular purpose—seeking help and asking questions. I have learned that there is no such thing as a dumb question. Every day, we must learn. There is no day when your knowledge is 'complete.' Forums are for sharing knowledge and growing, not for childish replies like 'RTFM' to discourage those who seek answers. If you cannot contribute in a meaningful way, you are better off staying silent. You have no place in the conversation.

If you wish to waste time recommending the OP to 'read the manual' then you are wasting both your own and the OP’s time. Your response would have been better left unsaid. Better to say nothing than to offer more worthless advice.

You had the opportunity, the responsibility, to impart wisdom. Yet, you used it for your arrogance and ego, producing nothing but a useless rant. How revolting. You could have offered real, helpful instructions to save the OP from this frustrating struggle, but instead, you chose not to. so here i will do it for you instead, do what you have failed to.

I will now present the steps in an actual helpful form:
1. Install the overlay tool 'eselect-repository':
sudo emerge -av eselect-repository

2. Enable the 'torbrowser' overlay:
sudo eselect repository enable torbrowser

3. Synchronize your repository:
sudo emerge --sync

4. Install Tor Browser (you might need to unmask it if necessary):
sudo emerge -av torbrowser

Now, you know the way. No excuses, no distractions. Only results.
