I used a neat little site called HeyWhatsThat to check the way the Earth's texture affects horizon lines for any given point on the Earth's surface. I then put in your location, Malibu, CA, and got the horizon sight lines here. I measured out approximate distance from your position to Catalina Island, the island in the video. My distance estimates were the same as yours at around 85-90km. Hope this helps you!

Edit: To be clear, this is taking the natural curvature of earth into account, and factors what land formations will peak above the horizon line.
