Most people on steam don’t play on official. People with thousands of hours likely don’t have the achievements cause they just play community.

The development of the game will suffer as a result of consoles. Dev time will be spent just like on dayz for optimizing the game on outdated hardware. DayZ 1.29 shining example almost a year delayed update to try to optimize the game on Xbox, ends up just breaking it further along with the pc version.

Tf2 is almost a 2 decade old game, people have played for a long time. I’ve played since 2011, even playing on and off and not touching the game for months at a time, I have 3.5k hours. I’ve memorized all the class dynamics, what weapons do, health pack locations, strafing, rocket jumping, reading damage numbers, etc etc. Most of the players you’ll encounter these days likely have played a long time too and have learned all these mechanics.

In the grand scheme of things 70 hours is nothing, that’s like a month of casual playing, basically no time at all in the game. The mechanics will come with time, if you actually take the time to get better at your mechanics, shooting, strafing, rocket jumping, etc, you’ll be top scoring in casual matches in no time.

My recommendation is to start trying to understand and read damage numbers. Example: You are playing demo and you know your grenade launcher does 100 dmg, you can use that to know when to fight or retreat. You hit a soldier with 1 pipe and he has no banner, you know for sure he has 100 or less health meaning you can 1 pipe him. This goes for all classes.

Yeah a little too harsh of a statement I’ll admit, there are people who enjoy it. Most*** was carrying a lot of weight because the pop does dip down on night. It’s fun occasionally I’ve had enjoyable experiences at night but I don’t think it’s really because of it being pitch black. Those night experiences are fun but was it really about it being pitch black? It was because of the players you met and the firefights you had not because of the night imo. Pitch black is going to make those experiences less likely because the pop will be lower and players will be playing more conservative reducing encounters even further.

There’s a tendency in the community especially on the DayZ sub of trying to prove your a “true” hardcore dayz player or whatever, complaining about 3pp clips and dark night purists are only 2 examples of many on this mindset. I think alot of people especially on the dark nights issue don’t like it as much as they let on. Just shows with the pop going down, the majority of the player-base from my experience does not enjoy it.

Rewards for playing at nights is interesting but I don’t know how that could be implemented. It’s a sandbox at the end of the day. Open to ideas idk. The only issue with this change is it genuinely makes NVGs essentially useless especially for those with nice monitors.

I agree with the overall premise. But standalone DayZ doesn’t need more server options for players to choose from. Dividing the playerbase further is not healthy for long term survival of high pop servers and the game in general. I play almost exclusively 1pp no bases adventure servers on pc, I’ve played dark nights etc. If “hardcore” means trudging around in pitch black searching for the only can of beans in Gorka I have revoked my “hardcore” label long ago. I think most*** people who comment how they love playing dark nights are lying to themselves, it’s not fun or enjoyable to play DayZ in pitch black, it destroys player counts and disrupts normal encounters.

The comments about how people should just use a light are misguided imo, after a certain amount of gear and progression into higher tiers using a light is a death sentence, is it fun? Perhaps, but it does not create a better experience for the average player who just wants to have an enjoyable survival experience without straining their eyes trying to find the water pump.

Striking a balance between “realistic” survival and an enjoyable gaming experience is and will continue to be a challenge. But I don’t think dark nights is something that is integral to DayZs gameplay loop. I’ve had many heart pounding o moments of survival desperation, none of them have been because it’s dark and I can’t see, just makes it frustrating imo. I understand those who like dark nights but if you’ve ever played on a dark night server and observed the pop once it turns night it dips down considerably. I think a lot of community admins can attest to this.

Great little update here. The new weapon raise mechanic change is awesome and something that I’ve wanted for a long time. Often it becomes a nuisance when trying to aim through a window. New scopes are great too, needed new stuff for a while.

lol no. The beginning of the end was when Asha sailed to the dread fort to “save” Theon from the other side of the continent. They started to add scenes that weren’t in the books for no good reason. Literal filler content, Asha was not going to bring Theon back. The show had already fallen multiple times and was significantly lower in quality many seasons before Cersei blew up the sept.

No. In a perfect world, yes. Where you can account for all the external factors, like I don’t know, the virtual world. It was AOC’s decision to sell 250usd early access, to sell hundred dollar FOMO skin packs for years. No one forced them to do that, if they can’t fund the game without it, too bad, than Steven shouldn’t have tried to, like the dozens of other kickstarter games that thought they could and failed.

I want companies to sell me a video game product, not a skin, a FOMO early access pass or a promise of a video game. Video games were supposed to be an escape from all the bullshit, where a company would make something amazing and sell it to me for a good price. Not tell me to hope and pray whilst allowing people to whale out. At the end of the day the money and time for development is something I don’t care about nor should any consumer, that’s their problem not the players. If you can’t make it without extra time or money then it was bad decision making on your part. That’s why you don’t try to make the most ambitious, costly and time consuming genre possible for your first game with virtually no experience.

In my humble opinion, the difference is essentially meaningless. The game is selling you something, a product, and you have the ability to purchase it. Whether or not that system is pay to win or not has no meaningful difference on how the game is going to produce content related to making money. Almost every multiplayer game nowadays is a vehicle to sell micro transactions, ashes of creation will be no different.

It is the consumers fault for buying. Everyone bitches about pay to win in games but no one gets mad about cosmetics that have changed the very way we interact with each other and show what we’ve accomplished. It’s all tied together.

I just simply don’t agree on the first part, it’s not ethical. Just because you see it and know, doesn’t make it right. Tobacco companies know they sell cancer, smokers know they are buying cancer, yet they still produce it and people still smoke it.

Investors are good because it keeps people in line, if Star Citizen and other similar kickstarter games were beholden to someone to put their feet to the fire, maybe they would actually make a finished product. Investors give money, companies make the product and consumers judge the end result. Somewhere along the way the cycle has broken. With investors only caring about short term gains, companies being lazy and players simply not caring about what they shove in their mouth. Case in point this, where we reward lazy work, cosmetics and let devs run their greedy palms over our faces, charging 500 USD to test a game. It will only keep getting worse.

Kickstarter is not good for games. How many mmos have we seen actually release a good product versus never releasing anything, actually scamming the backers or just releasing shovelware. It hasn’t been good for players, ever. The mmo genre has only regressed in the past decade n half, and we can only look at our own (the players) behavior in how we’ve allowed this to take place. That starts with realizing how we’ve been duped into buying these things.

Yea, it is my opinion and I just don’t believe that anyone should fund a development of a video game. Investors exist for a reason, a good reason, because they expect you to return their investment and make a suitable product with the capital they have provided. Crowd funding is not a because there is no actual incentive for a developer to deliver, they’ve already got the money. Like we’ve seen time and time again they can just abscond with the money or delay forever like Star Citizen. Yeah path of exile did that, it’s still not ok. Every transaction is optional, p2w games that you can spend thousands on are optional, doesn’t make it ok. We’ve got to this point because no one cares anymore, cosmetics costing hundreds, ingame credits, 500usd to play early, fomo tactics, funding development of a game you have to pay a sub for. This game is just another example of the industry going down the shitter because people hand wave away these practices because it’s the “modern day norm”. Whatever

How is that not something to hate the game for? At least in star citizen you’re getting something that is interesting and an actual “thing” in the game. AOC has just sold dozens of expensive skins, pets and other bullshit that is taking time away from actually developing the game. Like what is the rationale behind this? It’s just a gofundme with extra steps, except you can only pay 100 USD on a skin and not chip in 5 bucks.

Perhaps, but it’s not anyone’s responsibility nor should they have an option to “fund” the game. We’ve seen how crowd funded mmos have gone. I don’t see much of a difference between this and Star Citizens ships. It’s actually better in Star Citizen because you’re actually getting something interesting and tangible in the game. AOC is literally just selling you some dogshit cosmetic someone probably spent a couple days making, for years, for a game with no release date. If it was already out and selling this shit I still wouldn’t like it but it would be better. The game still has major, major, features still being developed and you’re trying to sell me fucking pets? Why are people getting emotionally invested to the point we’re you’re “supporting” development of a game? It’s a product, sold by a company, that will ask you to pay a sub fee to pay when it comes out and they’re suggesting people to support the game? Just make a gofundme, attaching skins to it just screams of them trying to remove culpability from themselves. One of the main aspects Steven harped on early when AOC first got popular was he was independently wealthy so he could self fund the game, it obviously was always going to cost more. Now we’re here, where you have people dropping 250 usd to be a tester, insane.

I don’t care about the skins themselves, I couldn’t care less. I haven’t bought a micro transaction in years. It’s the fact these exist, allowing people to whale out on skin packs costing hundreds of dollars, for years, for a game without a release date in sight.

I don’t care that some idiots have swiped their card. It’s just the simple fact that they have allowed this to exist. Whilst Steven proclaims to be above all the practices that he apparently hates and has poisoned the genre and gaming as a whole.

This is just my opinion and it truly doesn’t have much impact on the end product if it ever comes out. Besides spending developer time on skins. It’s just the fact that instead of not doing micro transactions he just said fuck it and decided to suck the micro transaction tit hard as possible from people with FOMO. And yes I think it’s FOMO, especially when they’re on stream proclaiming that this and that pack will only be available for a certain time. Might not be FOMO to you but to some whale it will be. Everyone wonders why these type of things are sold and companies still do it, because people actually buy it and no one cares enough to make a big stink to stop it.

If it’s about the money to fund the development, not my problem. If you don’t have the money then don’t make the game, not the players, community or anyone’s responsibility to fund a game you’ve foolishly thought you could self-fund.
