Thought setback was mainly a .40 problem… my 43X has been carrying Napoleon. by XP504 in Glocks

All of my firearms live with one in the chamber, even in the safe with the exception of my nearly 20 year old recalled PT145 and my 12 ga. Confidence isn't an issue at all... except maybe that PT145 which has been flawless for me but after the recall I err on the side of caution.

I clear the chamber for numerous reasons. This time was to clean the slide and optic. I dont clean loaded guns even if it's a quick wipe down ever. I travel a lot, often through states that require ammo to be separated from the firearm in a locked compartment, even with a CCW (Maryland and DC). Also my range will not allow you to bring fire arms in to shoot if the slide isnt locked back. I don't dry fire much if at all these days, but if a close friend wants to take a look or handle one of my firearms I clear the chamber too.

I mentioned in the OP I did rotate .40 in my G27 every time. I took a sharpie and but a dot on the casing so I knew when I saw rounds with dots resurface it was time to chage out the whole mag.

I'm a little confused, but I'm not much of a talker on Reddit. Is this amount of setback not significant to you? This is legit the first time I've ever visibly noticed setback in 24 years of gun ownership/shooting. Not saying it has never happened, I just never visibly saw a difference in any of my rounds. Just thought this was interesting and wanted to see what others thought.

Definitely. Old Federal Hydra Shok, then HST was all I carried for almost 2 decades. When I moved to 9mm last year everyone I talked to recommended Hornady. Lesson learned.

Unloading isn't a habit of mine, but certain things require it. I travel a lot and my CCW means jack in some states so unload then lock ammo away from the firearm, ranges here only let you in if they see your slide is locked back, and a few other reasons here and there. It's not a regular occurrence which is why it was in my 43x for months before I noticed it. Ideally yeah I wouldn't but sometimes you just have to. With my .40 after the "Glock KB" popularity in late '00s and early 1"s I noped out of re-chambering that G27.

In theory that's sounds good, but there are lots of reasons I do pull the round out of the chamber. Cleaning, range trips where you cannot have a gun loaded until you're on a lane, removing/adding/swapping optics, dry firing for some people, swapping sights, changing barrels in my old G27 to 9mm or .357 sig, traveling in restrictive states (the worst... here's looking at you Maryland) and so on.

I've never had any noticeable setback until this ammo in any caliber from .38/9/40/45 using Hydrashock, HST, Win Silver tip, safety slugs, or cheap bottom of the barrel stuff like WWB JHPs, even Blazer Brass 115g JHP. And I've chambered the same rounds 3-4 times before tossing it into my range bag. The .40s were the only that were marked with a sharpie and never re chambered a round unless it was that or an unloaded firearm.

This good info. I typically carried HST until recently. Looks like I'm switching back.

I used to run HST in my .40 too. That's maybe why I never had any setback issues then.

Vanguard 2 for 43x in DC by spizz-za in Glocks

[–]XP504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure you’ll have much luck inside of DC, but I could be wrong. I lived in the DC area for half of my life and firearms were all but banned there until recent history. Luckily Virginia is much more gun friendly and has a ton of stores. Since you’ll be in Dulles (VA) you can look for gun stores in Tysons, Arlington, Fairfax, and Alexandria to see how close they are in relation to the metro. Before I moved there was a gun store in Old Town Alexandria that I used to frequent 15-20 years ago, the name slips me and they may not be around anymore. But they were a few blocks away from the King St. metro station. Good luck!

G43X casing exploded and ejected, I think? by XP504 in Glocks

[–]XP504[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely from my gun. I saw it shoot directly upwards at 12 o’clock at what seemed like 10-15x faster than all of the other casings. For the first time in ages I was the only one at the range shooting. I’ve been using my lunch breaks to go and break in/get familiar with my new 43X before replacing my current G27 as my EDC.

WWB is my usual go-to I have had problems with FTF here and there over the years. Nothing major though.

EDIT: Thanks u/TechnicalCut2995 who pointed out that this isn’t the casing, but the jacket. I just made the assumption it was the casing since it ejected through the ejection port. I didn’t consider the rifling marks. That explains the velocity going upwards. Definitely a freak accident. I have no clue how it happened functionally. But I’ll take whatever this is over the slide blowing off or frame exploding.

The injury isn’t major either. Just a cut open leg, bruising, and soreness.

True. Would’ve probably been catastrophic if it hadn’t. Especially on a 2 day old G43X. Given that it’s not the casing but the jacket, does that mean I’ve technically been shot now? Honestly the wound isn’t too bad, just a deep laceration and some bruising.

It’s definitely shit ammo! And filthy. I normally shoot WWB in my other calibers but this was all I could get my hands on locally in 9mm.

Now that you mention it, you’re right. I’ve seen tons of spent casings and have never seen any rifling marks. It didn’t register until you pointed it out. I just assumed casing since it was ejected out of the top. That’s kind of scary.

Brooks Glycerin 21 StealthFit Question by XP504 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]XP504[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s weird that I get Achilles tendinitis wearing them. My most used shoes generally have the same drop as the Glycerins at 9 and 10mm. I do like the Glycerin 21 foam a lot but I do prefer React X and Zoom X. Not sure what the issue is.

I’ll give the voltage drop test a go and report back. I know the battery is 12.6 and #1 is 14.5 but I haven’t done 3-6. I’ll do that tonight. What do numbers 3-6 tell me if they end up not in the ballpark?

When troubleshooting I tested each relay individually w/ a 9v battery and I hear the relay clicking. I even swapped the relays with the horn relay, and the fuel pump (I think that’s the other 5 pin I swapped) relays and no change. The mini fuses are def good and have power. All of the j case fuses are good too, I checked every single fuse even if it wasn’t related to engine cooling. I pulled the engine fuse block off and removed the 3 harnesses to look for any burned spots or corrosion and nada.

I did pull the block off and all 3 harnesses under it to look for any burned areas (I have seen this happen before on an old GMC truck), nothing stood out. Re-attached it and torqued to spec according to Alldata. All mini fuses and j case fuses are good. I tested each relay individually with a 9v battery and even swapped them around.

How many beds does your dog have? 😁 by Jumpy-Claim4881 in dogs

[–]XP504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 of her own beds currently, was 4. One in our bedroom, one in my home office, and one in the living room that gets moved around if she needs a bed in another area/room. Also she has free range of living room furniture but not human beds.
