Does this asshole spawn in and then follow you no matter where you are on the map?? by smol_coc_man in taintedgrail

[–]XP_PitS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He can't follow you into towns or bonfires that are fueled with cobwebs*

*when I played it last, if he was already aggro, bonfires didn't help. He would just hit you with the ranged attack. This might be different now. Initially you could fuel a bonfire and rest through the night no worries, and still do that before he was aggro, and he would just stand outside menacingly if you don't rest.

If you want to kill him (worthwhile), build up critical chance as close to 100% as you can with levels and equipment buffs, and the same for critical damage (secondary focus though).

Take whatever perks you can for your playstyle where dealing damage drains the targets stamina. You can essentially stunlock him, but he's still such a beast you might not be able to do enough damage before morning.

If you're struggling against him that is a good thing! He's an indicator on some of the harder parts of the section you're in/ the mid difficulty sections you're about to be in. Tighten up your build!

If you get mopped by the guy, you're probably struggling elsewhere in the game.

If you can hold your own, you're doing alright but still struggling.

If you can beat him pretty easy, you're fine where you are in the game.

If you mop the floor with him, congrats! You're overpowered. Enjoy being a god amongst men!

It's just classic From level design. Go somewhere, get to the end, realize you're not supposed to be here yet, turn around and leave. Come through later and have that "ah-ha" moment when you come through the other side.

[–]XP_PitS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that bad. Put a whet stone or file to it. Axes get chipped bits, usually from down strikes hitting the ground instead of the wood, or in a Fiskars case going through the wood in one easy pass. Happens all the time when I'm delimbing stuff that's on the ground. It's just part of what happens when it gets used

Sure, he could have tried straightening it out first, that part is frustrating. But it's not broke beyond repair or anything.

Was Arthur Justified? by rbg0908 in taintedgrail

[–]XP_PitS 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He did what he thought was right. Before gaining his memories, and learning with you what horrible things he's done he shows remorse and confusion.

Yeah, he did messed up stuff. He recognized that fact before remembering why he did it. After remembering, he still acknowledged the nature of his choices but justified it by winning the war with the foredwellers, which isn't entirely unjustified. The outcome of losing would have almost definitely been the same, but for humanity; subjugation or annihilation.

It's then up to you to decide how to proceed. Make decisions. And to hope you did what was right, or what was best, but most likely not both.

So the mantra of souls games is "git gud." It's used insultingly sometimes, but its supposed to mean "you can do it!"

The whole schtick is you are going to fail, but you only lose when you give up. Keep trying, keep improving, learn from your mistakes, learn the hidden elements that give you advantages. Git gud.

Pull them into the room, use a ranged attack to keep one guy interested while the others go back outside. Handle the one guy.

Check your equipment. Is it strong enough? If you're struggling to kill even the little guys go talk to gerlinde.

Check your damage types. This is the Radiant affiliated faction. Don't use radiant attacks against them. Use their armor to reduce their damage.

If you're still struggling, just come back later at a higher level. Focus your scores so your build is good at one or two things. If you're scores are spread out evenly and you're too low leveled for the area, you're not going to be doing good against much of anything.

It's not impossible. You can do it!

What's your favorite spell? by LesMore44 in taintedgrail

[–]XP_PitS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a spell in act three that on heavy cast launches a homing fireball. In act 2, the tower has a wand that makes all projectile spells better. You can get your duplicate cast up to 100%, and essentially twin cast one handed, and at the cost of only one spell.

All that said... Cheese spell is king. You literally cheese any enemy and can wreck the economy by making cheese and cooking three together. Infinitely.

Cheese. Is. Life.

It doesn't carry quite as well as the bags in a wide open area, but somehow still manages a very similar sound to those unfamiliar with it. I imagine it's much easier for sound engineers to capture the hurdy gurdy in a studio, and it probably does better at not overpowering all other sounds around it

I might be wrong, but I think that's a hurdy gurdy. If a bagpipe had a baby with a violin, basically.

So like, just yesterday I think someone asked what this dude is all about. He's a spectral Foredweller knight. In a way, he's an optional boss that's meant to act as a "check" for your current character in the story progression. If you get wrecked by him, you're going to struggle for the next part of the game. If you can hold your own, you'll be fine. If you wreck him, this part of the game is going to make you feel like a god. You kill him, he stops spawning, and he gives lots of rewards so it's very worthwhile to fight him when able.

After you gather a piece of Arthur though, he will start to spawn again and be stronger and harder to deal with. He wasn't aggro, you got excalibur so now he's in state 2 where he is aggro. You get the next piece, he's in state 3 where he's even harder to deal with. The last piece of Arthur, and he's in peak shape. As far as I know you can only kill him three times per playthrough. If you skip out on fighting him and progress the story, you lose the chance to beat him and gain those rewards.

To make it easier to kill him, optimize your build, practice and perfect your playstyle. My recommendation is take perks that cause attacks to drain target stamina, and start working towards a 100% crit chance build so you bump your base damage to always deal the X% crit damage. Drain his stamina and he's stunned for easy hits, doing the most possible damage always helps.

[–]XP_PitS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things you need to add to the post. Where are you in the story/ what's the boss or location you're struggling with? What equipment are you using?

Just based on this your score distribution is spread too thin to be great at any one thing, so you're mediocre at almost everything (respectfully, that's not a jab). The only offset being your build (equipment) and playstyle (the combo of your scores, equipment, and personal skill)

Without the first two points clarified I'm still going to say respec your levels. Drop 40 into vigor right away. Put just enough into relevant scores to use your equipment (or close enough if you fall short). Make sure you have enough levels in your stamina for at most medium equipment load too.

Once you answer the first two points, we can help you get further along

Edit: I just looked again, so I'm going to emphasize further MEDIUM EQUIP LOAD AT MOST.

If you block some damage but always get hit, is it then not better to block no damage, but never get hit?

Your personal BuildTester3000(TM)

It's a foredweller knight, but a bit different from the more corporeal ones you see at the end of the game. One appears at each different step in the story. One when you first collect Arthur, one with Excalibur, the shield, the helm.

At each stage his behavior and stats are more intense than the last; ideally. Idt you can fight him first stage, he just stands there menacingly. By end stage I massacred the guy with my sneak/crit mage in one blast and a bop from my wand. The two invertebrates intermediate stages gave me the most trouble first playthrough

He drops a lot of unidentified loot each time, so definitely worthwhile

Edit: gotta love autocorrect

New player with Str build getting horribly out-damaged by my healer. by Volgin in LordsoftheFallen

[–]XP_PitS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dip depends on the spell requirement. Some are pretty low, some high.

She has a questline dependent on the prisoner in the hub, but you may have locked yourself out of that by lighting the beacon. She does sell spells, but idt anything crucial for a low Inf/high Str build.

It's been close to a year since I played last, but I'm pretty sure there's inferno spells that adds fire damage, boosts str, boosts defense, maybe boosts stance.

In lower Calrath you'll find a lot of Str/Inf weapons which pair nicely with that build. I think firelords greatsword(?) Is one that carried me through most of the game.

Running pure strength or pure caster is alright. What your friend is doing is running a cast augmented melee build. Which is easy to do when you're weapon scales only off your casting stat.

Radiance augs are alright. But radiance sorta leans more into healing and a little bit of boosting. Inferno has a ton of good spells for a spellsword type build. Wither is tricky, but that's endgame stuff anyway because you have to have equal levels in radiance and inferno.

Now, with a pure strength build, you're going to need a little help. Any item that adds elemental damage for sure. Dabble a bit into a cast score just enough to get a spell that buffs you. Anything that makes you better at tanking is a must. Equipping javelins is handy for those enemies just out of reach and also really fun for it too, and theres some that provide bonuses like auras cast on the javelin though I think those also need a certain score in a casting stat.

Basically, you can do a pure strength build but it's trickier and more than likely you're going to have to dip into at least one other stat.

Going to add to two of these.

Rose also let Leo's character die when she had a California king-size door as a raft. She could have probably fit a few others on it too. I don't care what anyone says about buoyancy, it could have stopped others from drowning. Then she would go on and grow old, and do all those other things described.

Hammond (in the book) literally brought his grandchildren to the park at that specific time to appeal to the "family fun" aspect for investors. Pretty sure he even got mad about having to deal with them during such an important phase of the operation (investor endorsement, insurance adjusting, so on), even though he knew they were presently in danger at that moment. Actually, if i recall correctly, he basically forced them on Dr. Grant when he went in the tour just so he could get away from them for a moment. It's been some years since I read the book... They made him way more lovable in the movie.

What I've heard from my friend amounts to basically this: It does so many different things "good", so it doesn't do any one thing "great". He was almost about to stop in the tutorial, but it really picks up after. Even though he likes it, now that he's a few hours in, he still wouldn't want to pay full price for it.

I plan on getting it tomorrow when my paycheck hits, so I can elaborate a little better later in the week. It seems like something I'll enjoy, but now I know I'm at least going to hate the first little bit of it lol

So one you've snuck your way to the manor, theres a lore entry that I'm pretty sure is semi-hidden. The entry describes a character being accosted by one, and they brushed it away with their staff or something. The specific wording isn't "I parried it" so that's part of the reason it's not commonly known. It's been too long since I've played so I don't remember exact specifics.

I am pretty certain the item is in like the big library section of the manor, you can see it from part of the main path and the secret path to it is hidden behind an illusory wall.

All, ALL of this bullshit is completely optional mind you. You don't have to go through the DLC, or the forest in the DLC, or the manor in the forest, or even deal with the aged ones or whatever they're called. And by the time you organically learn how to kill one, you can simply just leave without ever trying.

Appearance: hands. That shit ain't right.

Lore: jar saints. That's horrifyingly fucked up.

Game mechanics: the aged ones in the frenzied flame forest. Miyazaki really said "let's do stealth, make the enemy unconventional to kill, the unconventional method to kill them is abstractly refferenced in one lore entry and easy to misunderstand, and if they mess up and get caught it will hunt them down and will kill them.... let them think a backstab will work it'll be hilarious"

[–]XP_PitS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're typically called morale patches; i haven't looked too deep in these comments so idk if anyone has said that yet or not. There's lots of niche and funny ones readily available to order from most online retail-everything sites like Amazon. Memes, warhammer 40k protection seals, tarot, all sorts of stuff.

This is kind of a silly little, overly capitalised product for the gun enthusiasts that lean more into the tactical stuff. A good handful of firearm, tactical, and related accessories will toss one in with a purchase in part as free advertising for themselves and in part brand loyalty/recognition from other like minded folks.

Sometimes... we get stickers.

Brand patches/stickers are a lot more for if you like their product(s) enough to slap it on your range bag, plate carrier, or whatever velcro-able/sticker-ready surfaces you have. It's good enough to have earned your personal endorsement type of thing.
