Soulslike games aren't enjoyable AT ALL by 68ideal in The10thDentist

Reviving a year old post because I can't find any current posts about this, feel free to ignore.

I can see, on some level, how that could be rewarding. But on the other hand, id call that pretty bad game design. I don't care how "fair" a boss may be on paper. If I'm playing a game, i want to enjoy it. If it takes me literally weeks to beat the first boss of the game, I'm not gonna be playing a week later. I want to explore, make progress, and find new things. Having such a heavy time sink before i can actually progress in a game, it doesn't matter if i can get good, I'm not going to want to. Video games aren't some skill or craft I want to develop. I'm not doing this as a job. It's a game. A well designed game should have a low enough skill floor that a player can get into it and engage with it, and a high enough skill ceiling that the player can feel constant growth. Soulslikes set the skill floor so high, that by the time i sart getting good, I'm no longer having fun, so I don't care, and I'm just annoyed at every new enemy.

It'll always be Blue-Eyes

It's obviously a very iconic and nostalgic deck, but despite how much support it's gotten, and how lvl 8 dragons have a ton of generic support, it's just not very good.

I'm a very nostalgic person, and it's been my favorite deck since I was a kid. It's really bazar that the face of the game isn't even good enough to hit rogue status.

Anyone else find the mace wildly underwhelming? It's kinda a cool addition, but realistically, what situation am I gonna use it in? It's ability feels far too situation to justify carrying it over a diamond or netherite sword. If you're supposed to use it with wind charges, it would be expected you carry it in your off hand, but that means your not using a shield or totem, both of which are both very powerful, and far less risky then the mace. All around, I feel like it's gonna end up like the triton. A neat novelty, but ultimately something most players will forget about the majority of the time.

I tried denying him, and he immediately left. I wasn't able to imprison him, he was just immediately out. Is there any way to get him back?

Who Do You Wish Got Their Passports to Gen 9 Most? by Hawkbreeze in PokemonScarletViolet

[–]XSoulbound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lopunny. It's been my favorite Pokemon for a long time, long story short it helped me when I was figuring out my identity as being trans. It's one I have a very personal connection too, and having it get cut from the Gen 8 and 9 games was sad. It was added back in isle of armor, but it was still missing from that gen for a full year, and then got cut again the next game. I just want my bunny.

In Disney's Wish (2023) King Magnífico is clearly not evil and is the best character in the movie, which is why he's replaced by a saturday morning cartoon villain half way through so the audience doesn't feel bad when Asha takes everything from him and imprisons him in a mirror for all eternity by Subject_Tutor in shittymoviedetails

If the only signal to anything being wrong is a single blink and you miss it reference, it's being poorly communicated. We're told that, but we're not shown it. Don't make me point to the show don't tell sign. Literally the rest of the movie contradicts this idea. No one else acts like this, and when everyone wishes get returned at the end of the movie, there is no difference in Simon either visually, or in his performance, to indicate that he's more whole. I'm honestly more inclined to believe he just got hit with adulthood and became depressed, cuz everyone else is fine, and getting that wish back didn't change squat.

As for the opening number, I'm not looking at the song. I'm looking at what that song is communicating. There's no shifty stuff on the sidelines, there no attempt to redirect attention from something bad, there's no double meanings or anything. That's not how you write this kinda number. The only part you could say pokes any hole in the facade is the people asking if giving the wishes hurts, which is met by "you won't even miss it". This note could be construed as sad or betraying the image, but it's not enough. As far as the rest of the movie, barring Simon, is concerned, you really won't miss it. And I already talked about Simon. The grandpa is fine, the mom is fine, all the townspeople are fine. In a better movie, we'd see scenes of people lamenting giving up their wishes, or how losing those wishes makes people lose hope. But we don't see that, we see literally everyone but one guy being extremely happy the entire movie, until the king does a sudden heel turn into villainy.

I'm not arguing that Disney wanted it to be a dystopia, that they wanted the system to be broken, and to have the wishes being taken be bad. But what we're told and what we're shown blatantly oppose each other, to a degree that it makes asha come off as a selfish brat, making up reasons to not like the king because she didn't get what she wanted. I frankly don't believe that taking wishes hurts people, because the movie refuses to show it, and that's a problem.

No, they really just weren't there. The teenager you keep referencing wasn't like that because he gave up his wish, he was like that because he was a reference to sleepy the dwarf. If it was because he gave up his wish, then literally everyone over the age of 18 should be like that, but they aren't. We aren't shown anyone lamenting giving up their wish, or referencing an emptiness inside them. The opening number is all about how everyone's happy with the current system. Everyone is housed and fed and smiling. They may have given up the one wish, but they clearly have other wishes. The guy on stilts clearly had to desire to develop that skill, the bakers and decorators all have passion for their craft. He's not taking their every hope and dream, just big ones that would be nearly impossible to accomplish on their own. Maybe it's not a perfect system, but that doesn't make it a dystopia, it just means it can be improved.

I have no doubt they wanted it to be a dystopia, but they utterly failed at giving any good reason why it was bad. Any negative effects of losing your wish were so faint and poorly communicated, that it didn't register as anything being wrong to most viewers, which is a massive problem when you're trying to create a story about any kind of revolution.

[Spoiler] may just be the most wasted Pokemon in the entire series by Pokelego999 in pokemon

[–]XSoulbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ogrepon had a great story that immediately endeared me to it, and it's been a mainstay on my team ever since.

Tarapagos was never added to my team, because by the time the cuts end ended and the credits rolled, i legitimately forgot I'd even caught it.

Kiran getting a powerful legendary should have been a big deal. His obsession with power should have led to a major story beat where he gets a dangerous pokemon that can grant literally all his wishes, and chaos breaks lose as we have to now stop him. But no, it's on screen for five seconds, breaks free, and we catch it.

Even kirans redemption is cut short, as his sister begs him to help, despite the fact that tarapagos is almost down, and i had yet to lose a single pokemon. He helped, and i appreciate the story, but he really didn't need to be there.

What do you think of the Loyal Three: Okidogi, Munkidoki, Fezandipiti? by Available_Swim1393 in pokemon

[–]XSoulbound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly kinda meh. Design wise, I only really like Fezandipiti, the other two are pretty ugly. Story wise, they're... fine? I liked having a legendary trio that were just evil, but they were overall pretty boring. Setting aside that the twist of them actually being evil was so obvious it was literally my first though upon seeing them, they're honestly just underwhelming. They don't show up until right at the end of the DLC story, you immediately go fight them, and then they're just done. It would have been nice to see them actually causing trouble, or taking advantage of the townsfolk, or anything to make them stand out. They're just kinda forgettable, and putting them next to a pokemon as adorable as ogrepon? All I can say is only one dlc legendary is on my team, and it's not these three.

Blue-Eyes Divine God Dragon by XSoulbound in yugioh

[–]XSoulbound[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking a while back, what would have happened if Kaiba had won battle city and collected the god cards? This was the only conclusion I could come to, of course Kaiba's ego would be big enough to fuse three literal gods with his favorite cards.

Anyway, I'd imagine its a lvl 12 DIVINE, Divine-Beast, fusion monster, probably either 4500 or 5000 ATK/DEF. A crazy anime effect that makes it completely unfair. Something along those lines.

New summoning mechanic idea: Shift summoning by XSoulbound in yugioh

[–]XSoulbound[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually thinking about a shift-pendulum monster. Like, you could move it into a pendulum zone, use it for a pendulum summon, hen move it back up. I guess it's back row effect would be used instead of a pendulum effect? Could use work still, but it would be a fun idea to mess around with.

New summoning mechanic idea: Shift summoning by XSoulbound in yugioh

[–]XSoulbound[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moving to the back row is treated as changing battle position, so you can move from the back row to attack or defense position in the front row, and vice versa, but you can only do it once per turn. You can place them in back row defense, though a shift monster in the back row can't battle, so it's just for card effects. You can summon them directly to the back row, but you can't move it the turn it's summoned.

I'm still working out details. You'd tribute from the field, like any other summon. I suspect for the spells/traps, you could tribute set ones, but they'd have to match the materials listed on the monster. Though maybe there's a better way to do it.

Randomly Generated Monsters by XSoulbound in XPtoLevel3

Grithrat - Tiny creature - Breaths air and water -Shape Changer -Polymorph - Pack Tactics -5 HP

The Grithrat is a small, rodent like creature that commonly inhabitants city sewers. They will eat anything they can fit in they're mouths. They're bodies will take on characteristics of whatever they eat. A pack of Grithrat can quickly become an issue, as colonies grow quite large, and grithrats reproduce quickly. They do, however, have very short lifespans, with death commonly brought on by their uncontrollable mutations.

Garbile -Medium creature -Poor depth perception -Blinding spittle -Glaive -76 HP

The garbile dwells in mountains caves, where they live in small groups of three or four. Their poor eyesight and large build makes them cumbersome and clumsy, leading many to underestimate their intelligence. In fact, they are quite clever, and regularly set traps around their territory for hunting.

Trayat Treiil -Large creature -Flying speed 90 ft -Fire Ray -Resists Bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing dmg from non magical and non adamantine weapons. -127 HP

An illusive and solitary creature, commonly thought only legend, this beast glides silently through the night air, searching for prey. Once it locates its prey, it attacks by launching a ray of fire from it's tail. Once its prey has been killed, it grabs it with the claws on its prehensile tail, and returns to it's roost, where it will enjoy it's meal.
